Role Purpose

This is a hands‑on, creative role at the heart of Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough. You’ll lead and deliver clear, engaging, and accessible communications that put our services on the map, bring our impact to life, and help more people access the advice they need. With a strong focus on digital communications, public engagement, presentations, campaigns, and coordinating a borough‑wide VCSE network, you’ll be the voice and connector of our service across Doncaster.

Job Summary

As our Communications & Community Engagement Officer, you’ll plan, create, and deliver high‑quality communications and engagement activity across digital, print, and face‑to‑face channels. From managing our social and digital platforms to delivering confident in‑person updates and sessions, you’ll make sure our message is clear, consistent, and compelling. You’ll lead and coordinate a VCSE network, bringing organisations together through events, updates, and shared opportunities, while building strong relationships with partners and stakeholders. Through your work, Citizens Advice services, impact, and client voice will be visible, trusted, and well understood across the borough.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Communications & Digital Engagement

• Develop and deliver an integrated communications and engagement plan aligned with organisational priorities.

• Manage and grow Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough’s digital presence across social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, WhatsApp).

• Plan, create, schedule, and evaluate content using a communications calendar, including seasonal messages and awareness campaigns.

• Monitor and analyse social media and website analytics to improve reach, engagement, and effectiveness.

• Maintain and update website content, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and consistency of messaging.

• Produce engaging materials including articles, case studies, podcasts/audio content, videos, and graphics.

Marketing, Publications & Media

• Produce and circulate a monthly Citizens Advice newsletter via Mailchimp.

• Coordinate consistent strategic messaging across all communication channels (website, social media, newsletters, events, partner communications).

• Design and prepare promotional materials such as leaflets, posters, banners, and digital assets (print and PDF).

• Build relationships with local press, radio, councils, and partner newsletters to secure coverage and profile‑raising opportunities.

Community Engagement, Events & Presentations

• Plan and deliver community engagement activity including outreach events, workshops, talks, AGMs, briefings, and awareness sessions.

• Deliver regular updates and in‑person sessions to partners, stakeholders, community groups, and VCSE organisations.

• Confidently represent Citizens Advice at meetings, forums, and public events across Doncaster.

• Capture and share client, volunteer, and staff experiences to demonstrate service impact.

VCSE Network Coordination

• Lead, manage, and develop Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough’s VCSE network.

• Coordinate network activity including maintaining mailing lists, circulating updates, organising meetings and events, and sharing opportunities.

• Act as a central point of contact for VCSE partners, supporting collaboration, information‑sharing, and engagement across the borough.

Campaigns & Research Support

• Support local and national research and campaigns by gathering insight into clients’ circumstances through agreed channels.

• Contribute to campaign planning, priority awareness activity, and trustee awareness initiatives.

• Ensure campaign messages are reflected clearly and consistently across all platforms.

Collaboration & General Duties

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure communications support service delivery and organisational priorities.

• Support internal communications and staff engagement initiatives.

• Attend relevant meetings, training, and sector events.

• Undertake training required for the role and carry out other appropriate duties.

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience in communications, engagement, marketing, or a strong public‑facing role.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and confident public speaking.

• Ability to deliver clear updates, briefings, and in‑person sessions to varied audiences.

• Strong digital skills, including social media, email newsletters, content creation, and analytics.

• Highly organised, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple workstreams.

We are looking for an Interim Senior Marketing and Communications Manager to lead our Marketing and Communications function during an exciting period of transition and growth. Reporting to the Director of Fundraising and Engagement, you’ll oversee marketing and communications across the organisation, line managing a team of specialists and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team. You’ll provide strategic leadership, clear direction and hands‑on support, ensuring activity is well planned, insight‑driven and aligned to our wider organisational objectives. 

This role is ideal for an experienced marketing and communications leader, ideally from the charity sector, who can combine strategic thinking with strong delivery, and who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

This role plays an important part in helping colleagues across Battersea stay informed, connected and engaged with the work we do for dogs and cats. The Role

We need a proactive and hands-on Marketing & Communications Manager to drive the delivery of the next phase of our communications and marketing strategies. 

This role is about more than messaging or promotion—it’s about co-creating and delivering a compelling and inspiring narrative of creative climate action. Along with our Marketing and Comms Leads, you will be responsible for our brand, storytelling, content strategy, and creative outputs - originating concepts, internal design work, and driving conversion - ensuring that everything we do reflects our values, amplifies our impact, and deepens our reach across the cultural and climate landscape. You’ll play a key role in supporting our impact by leading our day to day communications delivery.

This will involve deputising for some of the (part time) Marketing and Comms Leads delivery on days when they are not present and contributing across the whole portfolio of work at JB.

This digital-first role includes a strong focus on content development, storytelling, and delivering varied communication campaigns. You’ll be responsible for independently creating, repurposing and distributing engaging content in a consistent voice across our digital channels. Alongside our Marketing Lead and Communications Lead, you will ensure our insights, tools, and narratives are warm, purpose-focused, clear, accessible, and optimised for reach and engagement. You will be someone who thrives on the combination of co-shaping strategic ideas and plans while driving hands-on effective delivery.

As a confident marcomms expert, you will liaise directly with our partner organisations to co-create communications, support joint campaigns, and boost JB’s voice in the broader climate and culture movement. This will involve growing our audiences, media contacts and networks, including welcoming new cultural organisations, creative practitioners, environmental partners, and funders into our network. You will be part of a small Marketing and Communications team and work closely with the rest of JB’s 20-person, supportive and mission-driven team.

Key Responsibilities

Content, Socials & Campaigns

• Lead on the development of timely, engaging, inclusive content across all JB’s digital channels (including copy-writing across channels, website, newsletters and social media).
• Lead on a JB bulletin strategy, with pre-planned themes aligning with our aims and a readership growth plan (working closely with our Marketing Lead and CRM manager) as well as leading on the writing, preparing and distributing segmented bulletins for the sector and key programmes (with content support from across the team).
• Maintain, manage and optimise editorial calendars that reflect our programmes, partnerships, research, and events and regularly engage the programme leads in the process.
• Alongside the Comms and Marketing Leads, oversee and support the production, publication, marketing, distribution and evaluation of JB’s full range of content including podcasts, films, events, briefings, reports, guides and resource libraries related to the climate, nature and justice crisis, ensuring appropriate tone and key messages.
• Leading on the production of marketing and comms packs for outreach on key events and announcements, including associated thought-leadership pieces, and the production of a public annual report.
• Ensure all content is optimised for audience growth, accessibility, and search (SEO, GEO), working closely with our Marketing Lead who leads on our overall web and marketing strategies.
• Sharing responsibility for driving forwards our social media strategy and developing, designing, and scheduling engaging content on social media, working closely with our Social Media Manager and wider marcomms team.
• Receptive, reactive community engagement on social media, including social listening, and supportive and timely responses.
• With support from the Marketing Lead and working very closely with the Programme Coordinator, take ownership of embedding accessibility best practice for events, marketing and across all communications, including preparing transcriptions and integrating captions and alt text, large format materials, audio description and accessible slideshows.
• Managing and optimising JB’s YouTube channel, including the creation of post-event assets to be published across the website.

CRM, Partnerships & Audience Development

• Taking responsibility for the day to day management and maintenance of JB’s newly implemented CRM, ensuring audience segmentation according to latest data protection, use and access requirements (with support from JB’s dedicated CRM Manager, Marketing Lead, and Digital Champions).
• Nurturing relationships with relevant networks and partners, identifying and collating regular updates and opportunities.
• Collaborate with cultural, environmental, and funding partners to co-create engaging shared messaging, campaigns, and communications assets to bring in new business opportunities.

Brand, Creative & Strategy

• Jointly responsible for brand implementation when deputising for Marketing and Comms Leads, ensuring coherence of messaging and tone across all channels and materials. 
• Draft internal and external reference guides for JB’s work, including the preparation of marketing and comms packs for outreach on key events and announcements and the production of a public annual report.
• Take a data-led approach to maximise impact of our marketing and communications, including managing regular marketing and events evaluation, feedback, surveys and audience and engagement analysis. 
• Ensure Julie’s Bicycle’s story, brand, voice, and impact are clearly represented in all collaborations and public-facing materials.

The role

BookTrust is seeking a Head of Communications to lead its strategic communications function at a pivotal moment, following the launch of its five-year strategy, Reading for a Brighter Future.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the role leads an integrated approach across media, content, campaigns, internal communications and stakeholder engagement. The postholder will ensure a clear, consistent and audience-led voice, strengthening reputation, extending reach and increasing influence.

As a senior leader, the Head of Communications will advise the Executive Leadership Team on reputation, risk and organisational positioning, while leading a high-performing team and delivering impactful communications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the communications strategy
• Advise senior leadership on reputation and positioning
• Ensure a consistent, audience-led approach across all communications
• Oversee brand, messaging and storytelling
• Lead media relations, including high-profile coverage and crisis communications
• Set content priorities and ensure effective, insight-led delivery across channels
• Position BookTrust as a leading voice in children’s reading and social impact
• Support campaigns, advocacy and fundraising through compelling communications
• Lead and develop the communications team and manage resources effectively

Person specification

Essential:

• Significant senior communications leadership experience
• Proven track record of delivering integrated strategies
• Strong media relations and reputation management expertise
• Excellent writing and storytelling skills
• Experience advising senior stakeholders
• Team leadership and budget management experience
• Commitment to inclusive, audience-focused communication
• Passion for improving outcomes for children

Desirable:

• Experience in policy, advocacy or fundraising communications
• Professional membership (e.g. CIPR)
