Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Financial & Operational Leadership

Partner with the CEO to develop and implement long-term financial and operational strategies, including horizon scanning and risk management.

The Position
As part of a small team, the Events Assistant will support the Venue Hire team with general administrative tasks, sales, planning and delivery of events and exhibitions for external venue hire clients as well as support Society colleagues with internal event planning.
The Society offers the hire of the Ondaatje Theatre and associated rooms to individuals and commercial, educational, and not-for-profit organisations for small-scale meetings, seminars, evening lectures, large daytime conferences, receptions and weddings. The net income from this business provides essential support for the Society’s charitable activities.
The post holder will primarily be expected to provide efficient and accurate administrative support to the Venue Hire team. This includes communication in writing, on the phone, by email and in person with clients; setting up Collections showcase displays; filing; database input (room booking system); displays; customer invoicing; and other administrative support to enable a smooth and efficient office.
They will also help to sell, organise and facilitate aspects of a small number of events, including liaison with associated contractors, and act as a point of contact for clients in the lead up to, and on the day of, an event.

About The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an outstanding Finance Manager to provide expert support in leading the financial and management accounting functions at NEF (the New Economics Foundation). You will oversee core financial operations for both NEF and NEF Consulting, confidently stepping in to cover the Head of Finance’s responsibilities when necessary.
Working alongside the Head of Finance you will be instrumental in helping to shape NEF’s finance department. Working closely with the Finance and Resource Manager, you will provide executive assistance, office management, and administrative support across departments, while also acting as the first point of contact for general office enquiries.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive and Leadership Support
- Provide diary management and meeting coordination support to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
- Assist with project work, such as preparing documents and sending surveys via email or post.
Meetings and Events
- Organise and coordinate meetings and events, including travel, accommodation, venues, catering, and mailings.
- Liaise with colleagues and external attendees to ensure smooth logistics and communications.
- Support the planning of Team and Trustee Away Days.
Office Facilities
- Maintain office supplies and oversee the office environment.
- Liaise with suppliers and contractors for building and cleaning maintenance.
HR and Finance Administration
- Support with staff holiday and absence records (e.g. BreatheHR).
- Assist with SharePoint intranet updates and internal communications.
- Help with banking tasks, invoices, and receipts.
- Provide administration support for grant processes.
General Administration
- Professionally handle incoming phone calls and act as first point of contact for office enquiries.
- Support the fundraising team with mailouts.
- Manage incoming and outgoing post, couriers, and digital filing.
- Work with the Finance and Resource Manager to streamline processes.

The post-holder will serve as social media manager, overseeing the Society’s social media accounts, and contributing to the maintenance and effectiveness of the Society’s other key digital communications channels such as our newsletter and website. The Digital Communications Officer will be responsible for developing and delivering dynamic digital content to inform, engage, and motivate diverse audiences, helping to raise awareness of the Geological Society’s work. Social Media
- Act as Social Media Manager – leading on oversight of the Society’s social media accounts (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn) – with responsibility for implementing our social media strategy in line with the Society’s wider
