Training & Commercial Manager (Maternity Cover – 9 Months)

The Role

The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is an internationally respected professional body with over 12,000 members, dedicated to advancing the use of statistics and data for the public good. We are seeking an experienced Training & Commercial Manager to oversee the operation, promotion and delivery of the Society’s flagship training and commercial activities during a maternity cover period.

You will lead the management of our entire training portfolio, ensuring high‑quality course delivery, coordinating and supporting trainers, and building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. You will ensure RSS training reflects current market demand, is well planned, financially robust and positioned for sustainable growth. Alongside training, you will oversee the Society’s smaller advertising income streams, including Significance magazine and the RSS jobs board, ensuring effective administration, customer satisfaction and sustainable revenue growth.

On a day‑to‑day basis, you will manage the full operational delivery of the training programme – coordinating logistics, maintaining clear communications with trainers and delegates, responding to enquiries, and overseeing the Moodle learning platform. You will manage key financial processes including invoicing, budgeting and reporting, and act as the central point of contact during live course delivery to ensure smooth and professional execution.

Finally, working closely with colleagues from across the organisation, you will develop effective marketing campaigns to promote training and commercial activity, drive bookings and achieve financial targets. You will also contribute to cross‑organisational projects, including the RSS website redevelopment, ensuring training and commercial activity is effectively integrated across the new site.

Your main responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end delivery of RSS training – planning, scheduling, coordinating and supporting every course.
• Liaise directly with trainers and clients to build relationships and deliver a polished, professional experience across virtual and in‑person formats.
• Implement engaging marketing campaigns to drive bookings, raise awareness and achieve targets.
• Maintain accurate financial records and processes including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, invoicing and reconciliation.
• Deliver continuous improvements across operational systems, including the RSS Moodle platform.
• Manage RSS advertising products, ensuring smooth customer journeys and successful promotional campaign delivery.
• Play a key role in the RSS website redevelopment, shaping how training and commercial activity appear and function online.
• Monitor performance, track KPIs and provide insights and reporting to support business decisions and drive income growth.

Contract Terms

The Alzheimer’s Society UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN) Trial Finder is an open-access platform that connects people living with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, their families, and healthcare professionals, with research opportunities across the UK. It empowers people to make informed decisions about taking part in clinical trials, wherever they live.
We are looking for a Clinical Trial Finder Officer who can ensure this platform is accurate, accessible, and meaningful. By raising awareness of, and widening access to, clinical trial opportunities, your work will help more people to take part in clinical trials and feel more in control of their journey.
You will work closely with colleagues across the Alzheimer’s Society UKDTN Research Nurse Programme, Research Communications team, Data and Digital teams, Participation team, and with a range of external partners to maintain the Trial Finder, respond to enquiries, and ensure that the platform is reliable, culturally informed and inclusive. About the role

- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Trial Finder, keeping it reliable, user-friendly, and up-to-date.

- Implement and manage quality control processes, including version control, audit trails, and regular review of trial entries.

The Job

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Finance and Reporting will lead all aspects of financial planning, reporting and control. At Prostate Cancer Research, we don’t just fund research. We help shape it. From launching cross-disease collaborative grant calls to developing first-of-their-kind initiatives that address gaps in the system, we work closely with researchers to drive meaningful progress.

This role offers the opportunity to combine scientific expertise with creativity and strategic thinking. As our research portfolio grows, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the department, while helping to shape its future direction.

Our remit includes delivering our own independent research projects and piloting community-led initiatives, alongside managing approximately £2 million in annual grant funding. You will also help strengthen links between discovery and translational research, support the development of new EDI initiatives, and build connections between academic research and our Prostate Progress data platform.

Responsibility

• Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of our research portfolio of both grant-funded and in-house projects, including supporting and mentoring other team members
• Strengthen links between discovery and translational research through creating effective processes and partnerships
• Lead the day-to-day management of complex research projects
• Support the uptake of the Prostate Progress data platform within academic research
• Develop a Trust and Accountability Index to boost public trust in research, building on our recently launched Empowering Communities report
• Lead on the implementation of the charity’s next EDI strategy for researchers
• Deputise for the Director of Research where appropriate
• Act as an internal and external champion for discovery research

Skills and Competencies

Our ideal candidate would have the following:

• A strong belief in the value and potential of science (essential)
• A PhD in cancer or a relevant biomedical science discipline (essential)
• Experience working in an academic research laboratory within the past five years
• Experience managing research grants from application to closure, including financial and operational decision-making
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• An understanding of social science research methodologies
• Experience of EDI-focused initiatives or community engagement
• A collaborative approach, with the ability to build relationships, work flexibly, and manage expectations
• Confidence in leading new initiatives and driving innovation
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage researchers, patients and internal stakeholders

We are looking for a Medical Writer to join our Trial Finder team who can bring clarity to complexity and turn clinical information into something people can truly understand. Your work will directly support people to feel more in control of their journey and make informed decisions about whether research participation is right for them.
You will be part of the Research and Influencing directorate, working closely with the Alzheimer’s Society UK Dementia Trials Network Research Nurse Programme, Data and Digital teams, Research Communications team, Participation colleagues, and external partners across the UK dementia research community. Together, you will help ensure that opportunities to take part in research are visible, accessible, and meaningful.
About the role

- Turn detailed clinical trial information into clear, accessible stories that help people understand what a study involves and why it matters.
- Work alongside clinicians, researchers, NHS teams, and study sponsors to ensure every summary is accessible, accurate, up-to-date and reflects real opportunities to take part.
- Manage a steady flow of new and evolving studies, prioritising your work to meet timelines while maintaining a high quality and attention to detail.
- Keep the Trial Finder platform accurate and easy to navigate by uploading and updating content within the content management system.
- Create and refine supporting content across the Alzheimer’s Society website, helping people feel informed and confident about participating in clinical research.
- Maintain organised records of study listings and updates, ensuring information is reliable and easy to track.
- Support wider storytelling and awareness by contributing to communications that highlight research opportunities and their impact.
