Description
This role is to develop the fundraising support we offer our 42 cathedrals. Church of England cathedrals play a uniquely significant role in national, civic and spiritual life, serving first and foremost as centres of Christian worship and the seat of the bishop, but also as some of the country's most important cultural and community institutions. They act as focal points for diocesan life and as places where people gather for major moments of public celebration and grief, while also contributing extensively to education, music, heritage, tourism and local economies. Their scale, history and openness mean they attract millions of visitors, many of whom are not regular churchgoers, offering space for reflection, creativity and engagement with the Christian story.
However, this breadth of purpose brings significant challenges: cathedrals must balance worship with growing expectations as civic and cultural venues, operate in an increasingly secular and diverse society, and maintain complex historic buildings with limited and often uncertain funding. With many facing structural financial deficits and high costs for maintenance and staffing, alongside reliance on fundraising, grants and visitor income, their long-term sustainability depends on improving and expanding their fundraising activity and successfully developing new income streams while safeguarding their core mission and heritage.
This role is deliberately designed as a test-and-learn function. Its future scope and resourcing will be shaped by the evidence generated through its work. There is a clear expectation that, subject to demonstrated impact, this role will contribute to the development of a sustainable and appropriately resourced model of fundraising support for cathedrals across the Church of England.
This role is a three year fixed term contract.

Responsibilities
The Head of Cathedral Fundraising Development is a newly established role within the Giving Directorate and working alongside the B&C team, responsible for strengthening and developing fundraising capacity across the 42 mainland cathedrals of the Church of England. This role is funded for an initial 3-year period, and there is an expectation this work will grow and develop during this period should the audit and piloting of support in the first twelve months identify the need for ongoing support.
Reporting to the Director of Giving (who will line manage you, agree your work plans and development, and who you will be responsible to for the successful delivery of the agreed work plans) and also accountable to the Director of Bishoprics & Cathedrals (to ensure the work meets the needs of the Bishoprics & Cathedrals department, and aligns with their various work streams), this role will lead a programme of discovery, pilot delivery, and strategic development to determine the most effective models of fundraising support for cathedrals. The postholder will work closely with cathedral leaders, development teams, and national colleagues to build confidence, test approaches, and develop scalable solutions grounded in demonstrable impact. This testing of approaches will involve engaging with, and supporting, cathedrals in their fundraising approaches to high net worth individuals, grant making trusts and others, so that tangible evidence of impact can be seen.
Strategic Development
- Lead a structured audit of fundraising capacity, resources, and opportunities across the cathedral network
- Analyse findings to identify strategic priorities, gaps, and opportunities for development
- Develop a compelling vision and roadmap for national cathedral fundraising support
Pilot Design and Delivery
- Assimilate existing data from cathedrals, the NCIs and others to help shape fundraising pilots so they align business needs with the wider mission of cathedrals
- Design and implement a range of pilot initiatives to test different models of fundraising support (e.g. advisory, shared services, training, or targeted interventions) and to work with a small number of cathedrals to seize immediate opportunities
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of pilots, using both qualitative and quantitative measures
- Iterate and refine approaches based on evidence and learning
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong, trusted relationships with cathedral Deans, Development Directors, Chapters, and senior lay leaders
- Work collaboratively to understand local context and tailor support accordingly
- Act as a credible and influential ambassador for fundraising development across the cathedral network
- Ensure regular visits to cathedrals to develop relationships and build credibility
- Liaise with other Cathedral stakeholders (such as the AEC) to ensure strong alignment of outcomes
- Ensure effective co-ordination with national marketing initiatives of the AEC and others to ensure maximisation of impact
Cross-Directorate Collaboration
- Work closely with colleagues across the Giving Directorate to maximise opportunities for cathedrals to benefit from national initiatives, tools, and resources
- Ensure alignment between cathedral fundraising development and wider giving strategy
Partnership with Bishoprics & Cathedrals
- Work in close partnership with the Bishoprics & Cathedrals Department
- Provide regular progress updates to the Director of Bishoprics & Cathedrals
- Contribute to the development of future funding proposals and bids
Impact, Business Case, and Growth
- Develop a robust evidence base to demonstrate impact and value, including evidence of money raised for cathedrals because of this role, as well as evidencing greater awareness of funding opportunities within the cathedral network and documenting new opportunities for funding that this role has established
- Produce clear recommendations for future investment and resourcing
- Shape proposals for scaling successful approaches across the cathedral network
About You
Essential Experience
- Significant experience in senior fundraising roles (philanthropy, trusts, or institutional fundraising)
- Track record of developing or scaling fundraising capability within organisations
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and influencing without direct authority
- Experience operating in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
- Experience designing and evaluating programmes or pilots
Desirable Experience

About the role
As local campaigning lead in our award-winning public affairs and campaigns team, you will play a pivotal role in driving Sands’ mission to save babies’ lives and ensure bereaved families receive the care and support they need.

You will create compelling content and digital actions, support media engagement, and use data and insight to evaluate impact and continuously strengthen our approach.

Main Purpose of Job
To lead Sands’ local campaigning function.
Co-lead impactful campaigns at a local and devolved nation level with bereaved parents and families, supporting Sands core aims to save babies lives and ensure anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the care and support they need by:
1. Leading the implementation and evaluation of Sands local campaigns to further our core aims.
2. Developing the capacity of Sands local volunteers, supporters and campaigners to take action to improve their local services in the long-term.
3. Ensuring that Sands campaigns are evidence based and reflect the views and experiences of a diverse range of bereaved parents and families.
Principle Tasks and Responsibilities
Leading implementation, and evaluation of Sands local campaigns to further Sands core aims.
- Lead local campaigns at Sands in line with our local campaigning strategy, collaborating and planning with key internal stakeholders, and staying up to date with best practise in local campaigning and community organising techniques externally.
- Evaluate the success of the local campaigns with internal and external stakeholders, implementing recommendations for future improvement.
- Work with colleagues to grow Sands’ local campaigning presence across the UK, including supporting funding applications to build staff capacity.
- Manage the budget for local campaigning.
- Represent Sands at a local level, attending meetings, and building relationships, with local politicians, NHS and council officials, journalists, third sector organisations, and other local stakeholders.
- Produce engaging campaigns content for use digitally across different platforms and in hard copy, working with the engagement team to ensure asks are effectively communicated to key audiences.
- Create compelling e-actions to support our campaigns using the Sands digital campaigning platform.
- Work with colleagues to support the production of press releases and responses to media inquiries.
- Organise campaigns meetings and events (virtual or in person).
- Recruit and line manage local campaigns staff, supporting and collaborating with them to roll out impactful local campaigns in more areas (subject to future funding).
Developing the capacity of Sands volunteers, supporters, and campaigners to take action to improve their local services in the long-term.
- Manage local campaign groups of bereaved parents and families, empowering and motivating them to implement campaigns to solve issues that affect them and create long-term change in their communities.
- Using community organising techniques to build the capacity of local campaigners and groups to campaign independently in the long-term – connecting local people, facilitating workshops and discussions, developing local campaign leaders, and recruiting new members into campaigns.
- Work collaboratively with teams working with Sands supporters and volunteers to maximise the impact of our campaigns, including supporting the creation of effective campaign supporter journeys.
- Create written and visual resources to support campaigning.
- Develop training sessions to build campaigning skills, to be delivered online or in person, or recorded.
- Provide advice and support to Sands campaigners via email, telephone and video call.
- Ensure key data and information about Sands campaigns and our campaigners are up to date and stored in the relevant place, including the Sands database.
Ensure that Sands campaigns are evidence based and reflect the views and experiences of a diverse range of bereaved parents and families.
· Undertake evidence gathering projects to support Sands campaigns work, including collating and analysing data and presenting findings in an accessible and engaging way.
· Ensure that the views of bereaved parents and families inform Sands campaigns and provide opportunities for Sands volunteers to get involved in our campaigning activity.
· Provide direct support to bereaved parents to help them become confident campaigners, so they are well informed, equipped to speak out and know how to go about it.
General tasks
· Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as required by the Head of Public Affairs and Campaigns and the Director of Research, Education and Policy.

Who we are looking for
We're looking for an exceptional campaigner to lead an ambitious environmental campaigning programme for just over a year to cover maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspiring leader who can develop bold, strategic campaigns that shift public debate, influence decision-makers and deliver tangible environmental outcomes.
You'll be an experienced campaign strategist who understands that lasting change rarely comes from a single tactic. What you’ll be doing:
As Head of Campaigns, you will be developing and delivering bold, integrated campaigns that drive lasting change for the UK's rivers. You'll lead and inspire a talented team of campaigners, helping them to develop innovative, impactful campaigns while fostering a collaborative, ambitious and supportive culture. You'll work closely with colleagues across communications, policy, legal, fundraising and research, ensuring our work is strategically aligned and greater than the sum of its parts.
Leading River Action's Campaigns Team, you will shape the organisation's campaigning strategy, ensuring our work is innovative, evidence-led and designed to influence public opinion, hold polluters to account and secure meaningful political and systemic change. You'll create campaigns that connect compelling storytelling with community mobilisation, strategic communications, political advocacy, legal action and partnerships, ensuring every part of our work contributes towards our mission to rescue the UK’s rivers.
You'll provide strategic leadership across the full campaign lifecycle, overseeing campaign planning, delivery, budgeting, resourcing and evaluation. You'll ensure our campaigns are informed by robust evidence, guided by clear objectives and measured against meaningful outcomes, using insight and learning to continually strengthen our impact.
You will lead River Action's communications and public profile, ensuring our campaigns cut through the national conversation, inspire public action and strengthen our reputation as one of the UK's leading environmental campaigning organisations. You’ll oversee media, messaging and campaign communications that amplify our voice and build public support for change.
Internally, you'll work in close partnership with the Head of Public Affairs to ensure our public campaigns reinforce and accelerate our political influencing work, while ensuring community campaigns and grassroots action inform our national priorities. You'll also work alongside the Head of Legal to develop campaigns involving strategic litigation to achieve change within and outside of court and legal processes, using legal action as a catalyst for wider public awareness, policy change and industry accountability.
As a member of River Action's Senior Management Team, you'll help shape the strategic direction of the organisation and contribute to organisational leadership beyond your own department. You'll work alongside the CEO and fellow Heads of Department to deliver our organisational strategy, embedding collaboration, innovation and impact across all areas of our work.
You'll also play a key role in securing the resources needed to deliver our ambitions. Lead the planning and delivery of River Action’s creative interventions and actions, from polling, petitions and shareholder actions to public protests and high-profile actions.

Serve as a senior public representative and spokesperson for River Action, building the organisation's profile and influence through media engagement, public speaking, stakeholder engagement and high-profile external events.

Oversee River Action's digital campaigning platforms, including the strategic development of our website and digital engagement tools.

About the Role
As a Fundraising Group Moderator, you’ll manage Facebook groups of up to 10,000 challenge participants, providing exceptional supporter care and helping participants raise five‑ and six‑figure sums for some of the biggest names in the charity sector.

Workload & Peak Periods
Our challenge calendar has natural peaks, and moderators must be prepared for increased activity during September-November and January-March. These months see higher participant numbers and more concurrent events, meaning more posts, questions and supporter interactions. In addition to these seasonal surges, the first and last day of every month are consistently the busiest, as participants start and complete their challenge.
We maintain a flexible, supportive team culture, and to keep this fairness and flexibility in place, moderators must be willing to work occasional bank holidays and be available on the first or last day of each month, when group activity is at its highest.
Working Pattern
Moderation takes place between 9am and 9pm, Monday to Sunday.
Rather than working in one continuous block, you’ll complete your hours in short check-ins across the day to maintain coverage and meet response time targets.
Each account is allocated a set number of ‘active moderation hours’ per day (e.g. 2-3 hours), which are spread across multiple sessions. For example, 3 hours may be split into 5-6 check-ins throughout the day.

The Finance Director plays a critical role in ensuring HOST’s financial management is robust, compliant, transparent and scalable across both our internal operations and our project hosting services. This role brings financial leadership to the organisation, supporting strong decision-making, reliable reporting, effective controls and continuous improvement across our finance function.
The role sits within HOST’s senior leadership and works closely with colleagues across the Delivery, Partnerships, Legal and Engagement circles, as well as the Board, to ensure we can deliver high-quality support to partners while managing risk and using resources well.
The role in a nutshell
The Finance Director leads the Finance Team and is responsible for HOST’s financial management, ensuring strong compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
The Finance Director is part of the HOST Leadership Team and would have line management responsibility for three Finance Managers within the Finance team.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee HOST’s financial management, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and relevant regulatory requirements.

Develop and monitor budgets for both HOST operations and hosted projects.

Provide regular financial reporting to the Leadership Team and Board.

Lead efforts to improve financial systems, controls and workflows.

Ensure robust financial oversight of hosted projects and HOST’s internal systems.

Contribute as an integral member of the Leadership Team, bringing financial insight to strategic and operational decision-making.

Manage cashflow strategy, including multi-currency considerations.

Terms

About the Role
The Restoration Coordinator is responsible for supporting the administrative and operational requirements of managing our programme of environmental restoration work, from initial applications through to monitoring and evaluation. They will ensure strong record-keeping, organisation and information-sharing across the team.
Core Accountabilities of the Role

Work with the Head of Impact & Engagement to coordinate restoration projects through each phase - application, due diligence, agreement, launch, progress monitoring, reporting and evaluation.

About the role
The CsP Music Missioner will help shape contemporary praise and worship within the Community of St Paulinus, especially as we seek to plant a Charismatic Catholic new worshipping community at the Cathedral and with a parish partner.

· lead contemporary Christian music in a sacramental and Eucharistic setting
· create worship that helps people encounter God, pray deeply and grow in faith
· build confidence in congregational singing

· take part in formation, supervision, mentoring and training, including opportunities such as the One Hope Project Academy
We are looking for someone with solid musical skill, sincere Christian faith and a heart for worship. Cathedral or church-planting experience is not essential. We are more interested in calling, potential, creativity and a desire to grow.
This is a 28 hours/week role, usually worked Sunday to Thursday, including Sundays and Tuesdays. It could suit a musician who also teaches, performs, freelances or studies, and who wants a meaningful part-time role at the heart of cathedral worship and mission.
