Key Details

• Contract type: 1 year fixed-to-permanent (subject to funding)

Role Overview

Glitch is looking for an Advocacy and Communications Manager to help support the charity's work — ensuring technology does not further or replicate discrimination towards Black women and gender-expansive people. This position offers the opportunity to lead on UK tech policy developing and promoting our Black feminist approach to key UK legislation through advocacy and communications to relevant audiences and stakeholders. 

Specifically, you will lead on our tech-facilitated gender-based violence issue area, working on the Online Safety Act and engaging with relevant government ministers and parliamentarians, as well as our online violence against women coalition partners, and the Online Safety Act Network. This role blends elements to advocacy and pub The position is remote (UK only) and is a one year, fixed-to-permanent role, extension subject to funding.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful at Glitch, the Advocacy & Communications Manager must demonstrate an understanding of and passion for Black feminist thought, and the ability to translate this critical social theory into advocacy and communications work, specifically in pushing towards systemic change with/in: tech policy, digital rights, tech-facilitated gender-based violence and algorithmic injustice. 

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Minimum three years experience working in communications, policy or research function at a UK, EU or US think tank, charity or non-profit in the area of tech law, tech or digital policy, or human rights and technology.

• A degree in a relevant field (i.e, public policy, international relations, law, computer science, digital media and society, culture, media and society, media and communications). 

• Knowledge of UK government and legislative decision-making processes.

• Experience creating and disseminating complex information to various audiences across newsletters and social media.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• A proactive, thoughtful, and collaborative working style.

Key Responsibilities

As the Advocacy and Communications Manager, you will support the team in working towards our mission in several core areas: 

Advocacy (50%)

• Support the Advocacy Director in the delivery of the Mitigation strand of advocacy work.

• Implement all policy work related to tech-facilitated gender-based violence, including but not limited to our intimate image abuse work, non-criminal redress, and automated content moderation.

• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including Ofcom and UK regulatory bodies, our network engagements, civil society, and others, attending meetings as determined by the Advocacy Director.

• Draft agendas for coalition meetings, taking minutes and actions, building and mobilising our partnership network around submissions, PMQs and other key parliamentary processes.

• Undertake regular policy and media monitoring and share updates and intel

• Support on the drafting of all external policy requests (briefings, statements, joint letters).

• Build relationships with external key figures in the UK including government ministers and civil servants. 

• Own the management and updating of our CRM, ensuring monthly maintenance of our records of interactions with key individuals and organisations.

Strategic Communications (50%)

• Ensure that communications outputs are of the highest standard and respond to the needs of the target audience(s) in order to inform or influence. 

• Develop communications strategies and content for all advocacy activities requiring public dissemination.

• Create compelling content for social media posts, to promote awareness of our programmes and advocacy work.

• Represent Glitch through writing blogs and commentary on issues relating to our core issues areas.

• Lead and develop the content calendar for the newsletter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

• Support with virtual or offline event promotion and meeting minutes.

Person Specification

Essential qualifications and experience

• Experience with policy, research and/or campaigning work ideally in a social justice or tech for good environment.

• Experience working in communications, particularly Instagram and LinkedIn

• Experience working with communications software or platforms (our communications stack is Mailchimp and Canva).

• Experience of writing and editing in a specific tone of voice, with a compelling style with excellent spelling, grammar and style.

• IT skills, including Google Suite and Beacon CRM, and project management tools like ClickUp and Slack.

How are staff supported to work remotely? 

VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community. 

When you need to travel for work, expenses will be paid (mileage or public transport costs).

VoiceAbility offers the usual regular manager one to ones, Staff forums and communities of practice depending on role. Team meetings with a mix of virtual and in person approach.

The Community Fundraising Manager is an exciting role at MDUK, that will sit within the Fundrasing Team. 

In Community Fundraising we are the team that builds relationships with our supporters, families, and event participants to fundraise so that MDUK can continue to find treatments and ultimately cures through research, and to drive improvements in care and quality of life. 

In this small but close team there are four other Community Fundraising Managers covering the rest of the UK and a Senior Manager who can support you and the rest of the team in delivering an excellent supporter journey to deliver the charities aims.

You will build relationships and manage both supporters and volunteers within the local community creating an impact by maximising financial contributions and raising awareness of fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

You will need a flexible approach to your working hours as the role may require some evening and weekend work.

United For Global Mental Health is seeking a Consultant to deliver the following project:

Project: Policy brief - Integration of mental health into heat action policy 

Objective: Research and author a policy briefing on how mental health can be best integrated into heat action policy

Location: Global remote (based anywhere with preference for +-8h GMT)

Scope This policy brief will: 

(i) outline how mental health considerations currently feature in heat policies (operationalization of what will be considered a “heat policy” in terms of geographical remit (e.g., national vs municipal) and in terms of policy (e.g., Heat Action Plan, Heat Health Action Plan etc) to be decided together with consultant)

(ii) describe at least 6 case studies (one case study per WHO region) of the successful integration of mental health considerations into heat adaptation and responses;

(iii) provide concrete recommendations for policymakers (with a focus on policymakers working on heat policies, e.g., municipal policymakers working on heat or on relevant topics (e.g., urban development or housing), stakeholders in the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health, heat officers in cities, civil protection agencies, meteorological agencies, etc.)

Services

The services provided by the consultant will include: 

• Conduct a narrative review (max. 10 pages) of how mental health features in heat policies [expected time: approximately 10 working days]
• Liaise with the team at Columbia University to consider how to translate the academic paper: A Critical Gap in Addressing Mental Health in Heat-Health Action Plans Worldwide into the policy brief [expected time: approximately 2 working days]
• Coordinate a call for case studies (e.g., on UnitedGMH social media such as LinkedIn, the Global Mental Health Action Network Circle platform, and via targeted outreach to specific climate and health or heat and health communities) looking at the integration of mental health considerations into heat policies. This would also include lived experience accounts. This would entail coordinating the collection, selection, and write-up of the case studies. [expected time: approximately 5 working days]
• In conjunction with the activity above, conduct a scoping exercise/desk review to identify examples of case studies on the integration of mental health considerations into heat policies to identify other possible case studies. If possible this should also include the collection of financial data to make a financial case for the integration of mental health into heat policies [expected time: approximately 5 working days]
• Coordinate the process of developing recommendations from experts (expert identification to be supported by UnitedGMH) on the integration of mental health into heat policies via (i) a virtual roundtable; (ii) a written feedback process on the recommendations.
• Write-up policy brief (max. 20 pages) which should at a minimum include: (i) a snapshot of how mental health currently features in heat policies; (ii) at least 5 case studies of ways in which mental health has been integrated in heat policies; (iii) recommendations (including specific language recommendations) for the integration of mental health into heat policies (these should be aligned with existing guidance, e.g., WHO guidance on Heat Health Action Plans) [expected time: approximately 10 days]
• The consultant will be supervised by Alessandro Massazza (United for Global Mental Health), Robbie Parks (Columbia University), and Emma Lawrance (Climate Cares Centre). In additional, the project team will collaborate closely with the authors of this paper: A Critical Gap in Addressing Mental Health in Heat-Health Action Plans Worldwide

The consultant will be appropriately referenced in all outputs (e.g., authorship on the report etc.).

We may consider transforming the report into an academic publication which the consultant would be welcome to contribute to (based on their capacity). This would however not be part of the deliverables. 

Timeline

• 1st November 2025: Project start
• 1st January 2026: Conclusion of narrative review and coordination with Columbia (steps 1&2) and launch of call for case studies
• 1st March 2026: Call for case studies closing and end of desk review work on collection of case studies (steps 3&4)
• 1st April 2026: Conclusion of recommendation development process via expert consensus (step 5)
• 1st May 2026: Conclusion of write-up of policy brief
• Mid-June (ideally during SB64): Launch of report

You’ll empower people affected by Parkinson’s to live lives that are as fulfilling as possible,  whatever that means to them, to feel able to take an active role in their treatment and to become  their own advocate in health and life, wherever possible.

Our adviser teams work within local areas and via our national helpline. Our helpline hours are currently 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, and 10:00 to 13:00 on Saturday. We are looking for someone who can work on a flexible basis to ensure cover across the helpline’s working hours. There will also be the need to cover some hours on Saturdays, bank holidays and over the Christmas period.

What you’ll do:

• Provide in depth, person-centred information and guidance to clients via our helpline service. 

• Keep accurate, up to date online client records in line with practice. 

• Make best use of time in providing an effective client service.

• Recognise and respond to potential safeguarding situations using established procedures.

• Provide information on a variety of health and social care issues, including appropriate emotional support, employment and welfare benefits guidance and advocating with and on behalf of clients.

• Answer client enquiries professionally using a jargon-free approach and within established timescales.

• Maintain relationships and partnerships with internal and external teams to achieve the best outcomes for clients. 

• Keep up to date with organisational and professional development relevant to your role.

What you’ll bring:

• Background and/or current experience in health and social care
