Why Access Social Care Exists

Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point.

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account. But most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 77% drop in community care legal aid cases since 2010 means we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken.

What we do

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it.

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers and barristers ensure fair access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded, and we all get the support we need.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We have a new strategy and are growing quickly including across our senior leadership team. We have nearly tripled in size and income since we started operating in April 2020 and we anticipate that this strong growth will continue for the duration of our next strategic period. Access Social Care are an organisation of thirty-six people, and this is a new role in the People team coming at a period of growth to drive a thriving charity and help shape its future.

This is a fast-paced role whose emphasis is on policy / process / systems improvement as well as advising colleagues and managers across the organisation regarding all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will work with people at all levels of the organisation supporting the People Director on strategy work streams as the organisation continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all day-to-day HR processes within the employee lifecycle to ensure staff are supported appropriately and legislative responsibilities are fulfilled
• Work alongside the People Director to map or review processes across the employee lifecycle, identify blockers and seek to implement solutions that create efficiency and clarity 
• Advise on employee relations and discuss complex or sensitive cases with the People Director to decide the best course of action, ensuring that cases are resolved in a timely manner or be a trusted advisor to our managers with their people challenges
• Coordinate the delivery of projects, process and policy improvements as defined and prioritised within the People Plan, leading on workstreams as outlined by the People Director
• Support the People Director in sourcing training and learning solutions, and evaluating training
• Provide practical upskilling and training to managers and employees in HR practices and policy
• Coordinate recruitment efforts at Access Social Care, ensuring compliance with employment laws and providing guidance to managers. Manage the recruitment cycle and administration process from job ads to onboarding
• Support staff engagement activities across Access Social Care in conjunction with the People Director. These may include but are not limited to the following initiatives: staff survey coordination, and wellbeing events
• To be a super user and actively promote the use of the HRIS system (Bright HR) and ensure that electronic staffing records are updated and maintained accurately in accordance with GDPR
• Dealing with cyclical and ad-hoc data reporting and requests for information including data analysis
• Contribute to effective payroll administration ensuing information is shared with the Finance Officer in a timely manner, and collaborating with the People Director to address and rectify any issues and process improvements
• Work within the parameters of GDPR, ensuring data and information is protected and handled correctly
• Support the People Director as required in any duties which you could be reasonably expected to perform in line with this job description

This exciting pilot is a new approach to preventing rough sleeping, through the provision of accommodation with onsite specialist move-on support to those who are at immediate risk of sleeping rough. The service will provide a route and support for single homeless clients who are presenting to the Local Authority Housing Options or day centres and at imminent risk of rough sleeping, but not yet rough sleeping.

Where their homelessness cannot be prevented by the council and they are at imminent risk of sleeping rough, a referral can be made into the Rough Sleeping Prevention service.

The service will be based across three London locations in Islington, Lambeth and Kensington and Chelsea and staff will be based expected to work across all three sites

• Work on 7 day rolling rota inclusing early, mid and late shifts 
•  (K&C): medium – high support accommodation.
•  (Lambeth): medium support accommodation.
•  (Islington): Assessment hub space for up to 15 clients. Site will operate 24/7.

Each site will have staff delivering casework and support, providing each person with a comprehensive assessment of their needs and circumstances, and intensive specialist support to secure move on.

In this role you will jointly manage the safe day to day running of the project with other members of the team and to provide basic support and advice to clients.

About you 

This is a fantastic role for people looking to develop a career in the sector; a number of current Managers started their career as Duty Workers.

• Some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment. 

• Personal experience of homelessness and/or an understanding of; and empathy with the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people.

About the role 

We're looking for a highly motivated and skilled Bid Manager who can actively craft commercial tender submissions and work with the team to ensure we submit high-quality, winning bids within UK government procurement rules.

Summary of role: Our Green Doctors deliver home visits and telephone consultations across Slough, Maidenhead & Windsor & the surrounding areas.  Consultations are a mix of advice, installation of small practical energy-saving measures such as low energy light bulbs and draft proofing and referring on to other health and wellbeing services. We aim to reduce our client’s energy bills and save them money in a variety of ways including providing a bill switching service.

You will be a practical, people-person with a passion for helping vulnerable people. You must have either knowledge or experience in energy efficiency to provide tailored energy saving advice, and the ability to adapt your approach to suit our client’s varying needs.

You must be comfortable with lone working and in managing your own workload. 

A qualification as Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA), NVQ Level 3 (6049-03) Provide Energy Efficiency Services, or City and Guilds Energy Awareness (6281-01) is desirable, but relevant experience within the field or a willingness to take the qualification will be considered. (20 paid study hours).

About the role

We're looking for a highly motivated and skilled Business Development Manager with a passion for relationship building and service sales. Someone who can actively engage and work with our existing client portfolio and win new business through formal tendering opportunities to ensure VoiceAbility remains a provider of choice.

In this new role, you will sit in the Business and Strategy directorate working proactively with external stakeholders and colleagues from across the organisation to ensure that we grow our portfolio of contracts, re-win existing business and advise clients of new services. How will you make a difference?

Through your commercial management expertise, you will win new business and ensure the retention of existing contracts. You will proactively manage your own workload, balancing known pipeline opportunities, acquiring, building and fostering relationships with stakeholders, collaborating with internal teams to craft winning proposals, and making the most of the new business opportunities open to us to ensure commercial success.

About you

You will have a minimum of two years experience of working in a Commercial Management, Account Management or Business Development role.

Have proven success in winning business through formal competitive tendering, ideally with central/ local government, by developing a credible position and clear convincing material and data.

You will have experience of working in an agile environment to respond to external factors that are likely to change at short-notice.

Experienced in stakeholder engagement and influencing both externally and internally, you will be a trusted partner to those who know you.

London Higher is the membership organisation for 50+ universities and higher education colleges across the capital. About the role

We seek a Head of Operations who will play a pivotal role in overseeing various aspects of our London Higher’s operations, including human resources, governance and compliance, IT, finance, and administrative functions. Working closely with the CEO and senior management team (SMT), you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our day-to-day operations and external events, while contributing to the strategic planning and growth of the organisation.

As our CEO's external focus increases, you will lead the day-to-day internal operations and business activities to ensure the smooth running of London Higher. You will act as a strong team leader, who motivates and inspires a small team, fostering and supporting the CEO to champion a positive organisational culture.

We operate a hybrid working culture. Our offices are based in London, Tavistock Square (WC1H 9HQ), and there is an expectation that you be based at least two days per week from our office.

Who are we looking for?

We seek someone experienced in a broad operational role, ideally from a similar-sized small organisation. Whilst you don’t have to be an HR professional/expert or be HR qualified, we require a proven track record in managing HR functions. Equally, you don’t have to be a qualified finance professional, but we do need someone with strong financial acumen. We need someone who can demonstrate the ability to oversee IT needs in conjunction with IT support consultants, and someone who can do board meetings and other administrative tasks, such as preparing agendas and minutes.

You will be experienced in coordinating small-scale events and managing operational logistics, such as venue booking, catering arrangements, and attendee management. You will come with flexibility and adaptability to navigate the unique challenges and opportunities faced by a small organisation, being able to roll up your sleeves, whilst also being able to think strategically and contribute to the organisation's short-term and long-term planning processes.

Ultimately you will be adept at tackling any potential issues head-on, through a solutions-focused and flexible mindset. You will be someone who listens and responds in a meaningful way, and make things happen.

Our client, a leading London University are currently looking to recruit a temporary Exams Support Assistant on a full-time basis (35 hours per week). The post will be looking to start as soon as possible and will run until the 24th of May.

This post will take on a variety of tasks associated with script delivery, including printing, and packing of scripts/materials and tracking them on the delivery logs. There may also be light invigilation/admin duties to undertake if working from ExCel.

Candidates must be willing to travel to ExCel as required or may need to travel to ExCel in the morning and then to another site depending on the deliveries.

To be considered for this post you will have:

• Admin experience, particularly MS Excel, Teams, and SharePoint as all the systems and procedures run on this.
• A flexible way of working, who can muck in with a variety of tasks as this is an exceptionally busy time for them

Please note that flexibility will be required around working hours, dependent on the site you are at on the day as the exams that are running will be at different times. As you will be on timesheets you will naturally be paid for additional hours worked.

The Director of Corporate Services opportunity is a pivotal position overseeing Finance and Procurement as well as outsourced HR & IT. You will be joining the charity at a time of transformation, supporting in the delivery of a new strategy focussing on the delivery of core programmes for Lumos globally. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will work closely with the CEO, Trustees and wider global team to ensure the running of corporate services to enable Lumos’ work supporting children globally.

Duties will include though may not be limited to the following:

• Lead and develop the Finance department
• Maintain appropriate financial systems and sound controls, ensuring Lumos complies with all financial regulatory requirements
• Ensure comprehensive and reliable financial information is available to support financial decision-making processes
• Lead budgeting and forecasting with a strong focus on cash flow
• Provide financial information to the CEO, Board and its committees, including management accounts and regular cashflow forecasts
• As well as in-house finance and procurement, you will oversee outsourced contracts with HR & IT, identifying areas for improvement where necessary
• Identify and implement improvements to Lumos finance systems, procurement, and accounting practices

About You

You will be a qualified accountant with senior finance experience having operated at senior management level.
