An exceptional opportunity to help take a remarkable charity to its next stage
The Barrie Wells Trust is a children’s charity dedicated to creating extraordinary experiences and unforgettable memories for seriously ill and disabled children and their families.
The Trust has achieved an outstanding record of impact throughout the UK since its launch in 2008, with its work made possible through the vision and personal commitment of its Executive Chairman, Barrie Wells MBE. Historically, Barrie has managed and personally funded 100% of the Trust’s operational activities.
The Trust’s largest and most successful initiative is Box4Kids. Dedicated to bringing joy and happiness to children living with serious illness and disability, Box4Kids provides access to VIP experiences at major sporting and entertainment venues. Since 2010, the Trust has given over 29,000 guests VIP experiences through its Box4Kids initiative.
We are now seeking an exceptional Director of Fundraising to play a key role to take the Trust to its next phase. The successful candidate will work closely with Barrie, to build on the Trust’s considerable success whilst creating new opportunities to increase its reach and impact.
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced charity professional who combines proven fundraising ability with exceptional relationship-building and operational management skills.
A unique events model
The Trust’s events depend on bringing together three important groups of people:
Companies and high net worth individuals who are willing to donate hospitality boxes and other valuable experiences.
Hospitals, hospices and other charities who identify and nominate seriously ill and disabled children and their families who would benefit from the Trust’s support.
Volunteer hosts who generously give their time to attend events, ensuring that each family receives a warm, personal and memorable experience.
In-house event management team with responsibility for organising the events.
The Director will be responsible for overseeing these relationships and ensuring that the whole process works seamlessly, whilst also building a successful fundraising function.
Key Responsibilities

· Create and implement a fundraising strategy capable of establishing sustainable income for the Trust.
· Identify, approach and develop relationships with potential corporate supporters and high net worth individuals.
· Secure financial donations as well as donations of hospitality boxes, experiences and other support.
· Build long-term relationships with donors and supporters and ensure they feel valued and engaged with the Trust’s work.

· Oversee the development of strong relationships with hospitals, hospices and other appropriate organisations to encourage nominations of children and families.
· Oversee the recruitment and coordination of a strong network of reliable and enthusiastic hosts who give their time to attend events.
· Oversee the development of communications that engage different audiences including box and financial donors, beneficiaries, hospitals and hosts.
· Ensure the Trust’s information systems, website and social media are relevant and kept up to date.

· Line manage key members of the team and develop staff, creating a culture of creativity, accountability and continuous improvement.
· Manage budgets, expenditure and resources effectively.

You will have:
· A successful career within the charity sector, with demonstrable fundraising achievement.
· Experience of creating and significantly growing fundraising income.
· Exceptional relationship-building and influencing skills.
· Experience of recruiting, managing and motivating staff and/or volunteers.
· Excellent organisational and project management skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Sound commercial judgement and an entrepreneurial approach.
· The personality and emotional intelligence to represent the Trust with warmth, enthusiasm and professionalism.
You will be someone who enjoys bringing people together to achieve something special. You will understand that a donated box, a hospital nomination or a volunteer giving up their time is not simply an operational transaction – it is one of the essential ingredients in creating an extraordinary experience for a child and their family.
Why join the Barrie Wells Trust?
You will be joining a highly successful charity with an exceptional story and working directly with its founder and Executive Chairman, Barrie Wells. You will have the opportunity to build the Trust’s fundraising capability virtually from the ground up, while helping to shape its future direction. About the Role
This Youth Development Mentor for young men is part of Bright Futures, our mentoring and employability support programme for young Gypsy and Traveller people aged 15-25. You will build trusted, consistent 1-1 mentoring relationships with young men, supporting them to grow in confidence, work out what they want, and build the skills to get there.
You will deliver the programme's set mentoring offer, adapting your approach to individuals as needed, alongside group sessions on skills and personal development. Many of the young men we work with have had negative experiences of school or other services and are often not in education, employment or training (NEET). The role is about helping the young men move forward at a pace that works for them, towards something they've chosen and can stick with, rather than pushing them down a set route. You will keep detailed records of progress and milestones reached.
You will also play a role in outreach and community engagement – building relationships with families and community members. This includes keeping up good working relationships with colleges, training providers and employers, and making sure young people's voices are heard, both within Bright Futures and externally.
This role is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
About You
This role is for someone who wants to make a real difference in young people's lives – someone committed to supporting young men from marginalised and underserved communities to get equitable access to opportunities, and to helping bring about wider change for those communities.
You will enjoy the challenge of working with young men who may take time to trust and engage, and see that as part of what makes the role rewarding.
The role is ideal for someone with experience of mentoring, youth work or a similar community-based role working with young men (paid or voluntary). Someone patient, non-judgemental and comfortable adapting support to suit the person in front of you. You will be just as comfortable speaking to family members as with college staff or social services.
We don't expect you to already have all the answers – what matters most is your commitment and ability to build genuine, trusting relationships and to keep going with young people who may take time to open up. We will support your development through supervision, training and a small, collaborative team environment.
We know not everyone will meet every requirement in the job description below, but if you feel you have what it takes, please apply and tell us how your experience and skills make you suitable.
If you are not sure what the work looks like or you want to ask questions before applying, we are happy to chat with you about the role. Please contact Mini Ravi (Programme Lead) by calling our office phone.

Kidney Research UK is the leading charity in the UK focused on funding research into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. At Kidney Research UK we work with clinicians and scientists across the UK, funding and facilitating research into all areas of kidney disease. We collaborate with partners across the public, private and third sectors to prevent kidney disease and drive innovation to transform treatments.
Over the last ten years we have invested more than £71 million into research. We lobby governments and decision makers to change policy and practice to ensure that the estimated 7.2 million people living with all stages of kidney disease in the UK have access to the most effective care and treatment, and to make kidney disease a priority.
Most importantly, we also work closely with patients, ensuring their voice is heard and is at the centre of everything we do, from deciding which research to invest in to how we plan our priorities and our work across the charity. Those patient contributions are vital, always helping us and our partners to understand what life is like with kidney disease, always ensuring we see the patient behind the treatment and always reminding us that behind every statistic and every number is a person – the patients and the carers who inspire our mission and push us forward to make a difference and change the future of kidney disease.

About the Role
This Project Officer role is part of Bright Futures, our mentoring and employability support programme for young Gypsy and Traveller people aged 15-25. You will keep the programme organised, connected and running smoothly - managing records and systems, building partnerships, and coordinating workshops and activities so that young people can find their way in and get the most out of the support on offer.
Many of the young people we work with have faced exclusion or discrimination within mainstream education, employment and other services, and are often not in education, employment or training (NEET). The processes, systems and communications you manage all need to be accessible and responsive to young people who may be wary of formal support.
You will coordinate outreach and community engagement to bring young people into the programme, build and maintain relationships with colleges, training providers, employers and community organisations, and manage day-to-day communications with young people, families and partners. You will set up and coordinate a Youth Advisory Group, giving young people a structured way to help shape the programme. You may also be asked to cover for mentee support when a mentor is unavailable or at capacity.
This role is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
About You
This role is for someone who enjoys keeping things organised and connected, and who wants that work to make a real, practical difference in young people's lives – someone committed to supporting young people from marginalised and underserved communities to fairly access relevant opportunities.
You will be highly organised, with strong admin skills and confidence using digital tools and databases. You will also be a confident communicator, equally comfortable writing a promotional post, following up with a training provider, or having a conversation with a young person or their family.
The role is ideal for someone with experience of outreach, building partnerships or community engagement, who can build trusting relationships with a wide range of people – from young people and families to colleges, employers and community organisations. You should be open to providing support to young people when needed.
We don't expect you to already have all the answers what matters most is your admin and organisational ability, your commitment to the communities we work with, and your confidence building relationships across a wide range of people and settings.
Please contact Mini Ravi (Programme Lead) by calling on our office phone.
