Helpline Team Leader (Full Time)
Location: Erdington, Birmingham
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £29,099 per annum
The Helpline provides advice, information and signposting to people experiencing mental health difficulties, their families, professionals and the wider public.
Our client is looking for people who can work under pressure, remain calm and have excellent communication skills. As team leader to the helpline, you will provide support to a team of helpline workers and volunteers alongside taking calls.
Their Helpline positions are office based at the Erdington location. The Helpline operates between the hours of 9am to 11pm, seven days a week and 365 days a year. Employees work on a rota basis, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Shifts are 9am to 5pm and 3pm to 11pm. This is an on-site role, and no hybrid working is available.

This role is responsible for overseeing all People systems, payroll, and Payroll administration activity, ensuring services are accurate, compliant, user-focused, and provide value for money. You will play a key role in enabling the organisation to be both people-powered and values-led, while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Work collaboratively across the People Team to deliver an ambitious programme of work.
- Lead and manage the People Systems and Payroll team, providing coaching, direction, and development.
- Act as a role model and ambassador, delivering high-quality service to stakeholders.
Payroll & Compliance
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
- Submit EPS, FPS, HMRC returns, and complete all year-end payroll activities.
- Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Oversee payroll data accuracy, including starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
- Lead on payroll reporting, including gross-to-net, variance analysis, and executive sign-off.
Systems & Process Management
- Manage and optimise People systems (including IRIS Cascade and other platforms).
- Drive continuous improvement to maximise self-service and operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to streamline data flows across systems.
- Configure systems and workflows in line with policy, legislation, and best practice.
Reporting & Insights
- Lead on the development of People and payroll KPIs, dashboards, and management information.
- Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and workforce planning.
- Deliver reporting across key People areas such as recruitment, EDI, and learning.
Governance & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Finance to ensure audit compliance and accurate accounting.
- Manage relationships with payroll, benefits, and system providers.
- Oversee pension scheme administration.
- Support Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) in partnership with the Data team.
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding, data protection, and health & safety policies.
Projects & Improvement
- Lead the annual pay review and support pay benchmarking activity.
- Contribute systems expertise to People-related projects and initiatives.

HR Systems Assistant
We are looking for a curious, detail-focused and proactive HR MIS Assistant to join the People Services team.
This is a full-time, home-based role, with occasional travel to Preston for meetings and training.

The Role
This is a varied and hands-on role where you’ll support the day-to-day operation of the HR systems across the organisation.
You’ll work across several systems, with key platforms including:
- IRIS Cascade (HR system)
- Hireserve (recruitment system)
- Fresh Service (ticketing platform)
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting employee data and processes within Cascade
- Assisting with recruitment workflows in Hireserve
- Managing and resolving system queries through the ticketing system
- Maintaining data accuracy and supporting data quality improvements
- Producing reports and responding to data requests
- Supporting testing and implementation of system updates
You’ll help ensure that systems remain reliable, accurate and user-friendly, contributing to the consistency and efficiency of people processes across the organisation.
About You
You’re someone who enjoys working with systems and data, and you take real pride in keeping things accurate, organised and running smoothly.
You’re comfortable navigating multiple platforms, able to manage your own workload effectively, and confident supporting a wide range of colleagues across the organisation. You’ll be naturally curious, proactive in solving problems, and keen to improve how things work.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience working with HR systems (IRIS Cascade is highly desirable)
- Strong data handling and reporting skills, with a focus on accuracy
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Confidence using Excel and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- An understanding of HR processes (desirable)
