Key tasks: To work with other staff and volunteers to ensure that Hope’s houses are clean, safe and comply with legal standards; To help people move into and out of Hope Housing and to work with other Hope staff and other organisations to promote residents’ well-being and to support newly granted refugees on their road to independence.
Job description
1. Ensure that houses and gardens are safe, welcoming and well maintained
2. Undertake simple repairs and maintenance to Hope Houses
3. Commissioning repairs where appropriate, within Hope’s housing maintenance budget.
4. Complete and record regular fire and health and safety checks.
5. Ensure rooms are clean and ready for new clients to move into
6. Help new residents move in and provide an induction.
7. Undertake and document client risk assessments
8. Help new refugees develop and carry out plans to help them thrive
9. Ensure safeguarding of clients in accordance with Hope’s safeguarding policy and procedures
10. Complete License Agreement and diarise end dates
11. Draft eviction letters and supporting letters when required

13. Empower residents to register and engage with appropriate health services

Summary Purpose - what you will be achieving:

Job Purpose
Grandmentors Wolverhampton is a well-established and successful project that has been connecting mature volunteers with care experienced young people since 2019. As Project Coordinator, you will lead the core programme while heading up our brand new ‘Through the Gates’ pilot, which provides vital support for young people transitioning from custody back into the community. Your role is to foster high impact mentoring relationships while ensuring clear professional boundaries are maintained, complementing the work of our statutory partners in the Local Authority.
Key Responsibilities:
· Project Coordination: Lead the day-to-day delivery of Grandmentors in Wolverhampton, ensuring the project meets match targets for both the core service and the new pilot.
· Volunteer Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise a dedicated team of mentors, ensuring they feel supported and understand how their role fits alongside other professional services.
· Boundary Management: Act as the key link to statutory leads, such as Social Workers or Personal Advisors, ensuring support remains mentor-led and escalating any professional concerns appropriately.

THE CHARITY
Suicide is the leading cause of death of men under 35 and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James’ Place exists to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis through delivering clinical services. We are a charity currently offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London, Newcastle and Birmingham.
James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.
James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. We have so far treated over 5,100 men who might otherwise have been unable to access the support they desperately need.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a new role designed to raise and facilitate fundraising for James’ Place Birmingham and to grow community and voluntary sector relationships across the region to raise awareness of James’ Place to drive referrals to our Birmingham centre.
As part of the Fundraising team, you will take a leading role in building strong networks across Birmingham and the West Midlands, helping to establish our centre as a sustainable source of life-saving support for men in suicidal crisis.
The postholder will spend 50% of their time working collaboratively and taking responsibility for establishing fundraising activity across the West Midlands with appropriate support from centre staff and fundraising colleagues, the Head of Fundraising and Communications, Director of Fundraising and External Affairs and the Chief Executive and Trustees. They will spend 40% of their time building community-based relationships with the aim of raising awareness to drive referrals to the centre, working closely with the Head of Centre Birmingham and the Centre Manager in Birmingham to do so. It is recognised that this will vary week to week depending on the current needs of the organisations.

The Director of Place, Programmes and Delivery provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the charity’s programmes and projects, including our Place Expansion work, ensuring they are high-quality, impactful, and aligned with the organisation’s mission and values. The role is responsible for translating strategic objectives into effective delivery, embedding learning and improvement, and ensuring programmes are sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of funders.
You will have a strong understanding of risk management, developing senior relationships with key partner agencies, able to take decisive and proactive actions to ensure smooth execution of programmes.
You will be purposeful and collaborative with the ability to manage multiple complex programmes at one time. The current programmes you will be responsible for include: Safeguarding and Welfare, Playzones, and Place Expansion. You will also be responsible for all of our Project work.
Being the senior leader responsible for our Place Expansion work will be a substantial part of this role. Place-based working in this sector is still emerging and operates within complex local systems, requiring the ability to navigate, influence and align a wide range of partners, often with different priorities, accountabilities and constraints.
You will also be the lead senior officer responsible for Safeguarding.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Programmes, Delivery and Place contributes to organisational strategy, resource planning, and organisational culture. You will also regularly attend Board meetings and Sub-Committee meetings as required.

Who you are:
- Significant senior-level experience in programme or service delivery within the charity, public, or related sectors.
- Experience of managing and influencing complex relationships with external senior stakeholders at a strategic level and brokering solutions in environments where relationships can be both collaborative and contested.
- Proven experience of leading complex programmes and teams.
- Strong understanding of programme design, delivery and impact measurement.
- Experience of project management tools, resource planning and budget management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong commitment to, and knowledge of, safeguarding, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Alignment with the values and mission of the organisation.
- You are able to demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion in relation to London.
- You have lived experience of day-to-day life in London.
Key Details:
- Full-time (35 hours per week). We are open to discussing flexible working options.
- Salary: £75,000 per annum if full-time

- Flexible working: we use a model of 2 plus days per week in our central London office at House of Sport or a partner organization and working from home, with travel required throughout London
