We’re looking for an experienced high value fundraiser and team leader to join Friends of the Earth as our Head of Major Giving. The role will focus on growing income and leading our passionate and well-established high net worth team, which covers Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations and Strategic Partnerships.

You’ll be responsible for developing the Major Giving strategy, retaining our loyal supporters and attracting new, long-term funders by refreshing the stewardship and cultivation programme to encourage deliver on our growth plans in line as we develop a new strategy to answer the challenges in the external environment and ensure that we have the funds to respond to the crises of climate, nature and inequality.

The team: 

The Major Giving team consists of 12 people with five direct reports, leading the sub-teams of Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations, Strategic Partnerships and our Events function. Your team sits within the Income Generation Directorate, and you’ll work closely with colleagues across that Directorate and with our Policy & Campaigns  Engagement and Community & Network Directorates. You will play a key role in promoting a culture of philanthropy and partnerships across the entire organisation as together, we strive to create lasting change in the fight against climate and nature crisis.

We are a small but growing team of lawyers, communications experts, and campaigners. Our work is global, and we work in partnership with lawyers, civil society, unions, and people impacted by Big Tech.

The role

As Head of Operations, you will lead all operational functions of Foxglove. You will ensure that our finance, HR, legal compliance, fundraising, systems and internal processes enable the organisation to carry out its mission effectively. You’ll work across Foxglove and closely with leadership, as well as with external partners to build a resilient and well-governed organisation, able to manage growth and complexity while staying mission driven. This role manages one member of staff and multiple consultants.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management & Accounting

1.Oversee financial operations: budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, expenditure controls, financial reporting, payroll.

2.Ensure compliance with accounting standards, audit requirements and donor / funder financial reporting obligations.

 Alexandra Rose run practical place-based food system transformation projects based around a voucher for fresh fruit & veg. We currently have 9 projects across the UK, and we’re aiming to scale in the coming years. Each project operates the same model, but each project adapts to work with different communities, different languages, different community support infrastructure, different retail options, and more.

Our vouchers area accepted exclusively by local, independent healthy food businesses, ensuring that we are also supporting a fairer, healthier local food economy.

Our model directly tackles the barriers of affordability and accessibility to the most nutrient dense and most expensive element of a healthy diet. We change the health outcomes of young children and adults living with food related health conditions. We actively change the food environment that is available to a range of people who have been disadvantaged for decades.

Priorities for the team include delivering and evaluating Join the Dots at a high quality, ensuring good engagement in our programmes, and prioritising projects that address discrete inequalities (for example, working with mature learners and young people who have been in local authority care). 

This role will support the delivery of projects to support these priorities. This includes working with partners to define the scope and objectives of projects, working with colleagues across other teams in the charity to deliver projects and managing the logistics of project delivery.

They partner with a global community of humanitarian actors, researchers, and innovators to improve the quality of humanitarian action and deliver better outcomes for people affected by crises.  The Management Accountant plays a key role in delivering timely, accurate financial forecasts, management accounts, and donor reporting to support strong financial management and effective cross-programme operations. The postholder contributes to annual budgeting and statutory audits, continuously improving financial systems, policies, and processes to ensure alignment with the organisation's strategic objectives. The postholder acts as a primary finance contact and trusted finance partner for internal teams, external stakeholders, and Save the Children UK, the post provides expert guidance, manages financial queries, and oversees a Finance Officer to ensure efficient, compliant financial operations across the organisation.
 
The successful candidate will be a proactive individual who is a Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CIPFA or equivalent). Experienced Part Qualified (PQ) candidates will also be considered. The postholder will have proven experience in management accounting, ideally within the charity or not-for-profit sector, with strong expertise in managing complex budgets and multiple funding streams. The postholder will have experience in grant financial management and compliance, and in supporting grantee financial management and compliance. The postholder will have a good understanding of Microsoft Excel and experience in line management.
 
The postholder will also have strong attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure. The postholder will have strong analytical skills, and an understanding of risk and audit principles. The postholder will have excellent communication skills, able to engage and support both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
 
Desirably, you will have financial experience within an international humanitarian context or similar, including knowledge and experience of IATI reporting. In addition to this, knowledge of charity accounting and tax issues, including the Charities SORP. An understanding of the Agresso (Unit4) finance system is also desirable as that is what is currently used at the organisation.

Our client are a remote first organisation and as such this role can be based from home, anywhere within the UK. There are also offices available for those who would like to spend time in the office. This role is full-time (35 hours a week) and initially on an interim basis, funded until September 2026.

Background to School Food Matters

At School Food Matters we believe that school food can unlock a happier, healthier, more sustainable future for every child. We want a school food system that delivers for all children, so they can enjoy nutritious, delicious and sustainable school food and leave school with an informed and positive relationship with food. To achieve this, we campaign for a better school food system, bringing the voices of children, parents, and teachers to government policy, and deliver fully funded food education programmes in schools across the country.

Young Marketeers

This much-loved programme was started in London in 2012. It is now running in about 125 primary and special schools across England.  This is the fourth year it has run in Leeds. The programme provides hands-on opportunities for children from primary schools to grow fruit and veg from seed to sell at their local market. Young Marketeers is also a platform for School Food Matters to promote food education to schools and communities as a way to support children to live happy and healthy lives. Children learn the art of growing veg from seed, and market traders will share their secrets on how to create a winning market stall. Primary schools will be visited by our gardener in March/April and then again in May/June and receive further tips on how to ensure a bumper crop. Then in July, they head to the market to sell their produce, and to meet the Mayor!

Key Tasks include:

· Build and maintain relationships with teachers, teaching assistants and senior leaders to ensure the smooth running of the project

· Plan and deliver

o One assembly in each school

o Two food growing sessions in each school with a class of 30 children (divided into 2 groups of 15)

· Attend Market Day in the city centre in July with all schools

• Complete monitoring and evaluation forms in accordance with instructions from our Evaluation team
• Take photos of workshops and events where possible
• Keep Project Coordinator and Leeds Project Officer fully updated on progress

· Keep up to date with safeguarding requirements and reporting procedures

• Maintain the ethos of the charity and positively promote our work at all times
