Beder is looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial and hands-on Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to lead the next stage of our growth.

Beder was established in memory of Beder Mirjan, who sadly took his own life in 2017 at the age of 18. Since then, we have spent the past eight years working to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention, challenge stigma and, increasingly, provide tangible support to people who need it.

The focus of our work is the Beder Therapy Voucher programme, through which we fund free therapy for people (18+) across the UK as we all need someone to talk to with demand for that support growing significantly.

Until now, much of Beder's fundraising has been founder-led, supported by an incredible network of ambassadors, partners, businesses and individuals. We have built exciting partnerships across sport, business, entertainment and hospitality whilst creating a charity with an engaged community and an ambitious vision for the future.

We are now ready to build a dedicated and sustainable fundraising function so we are looking for someone who can take ownership of that journey.

This isn't a role for someone who simply wants to manage an existing fundraising programme as we are looking for someone who enjoys building one. Whilst working closely with our founder, trustees and wider team, you will develop and execute Beder's fundraising strategy, building sustainable income across corporate partnerships, major donors, trusts and foundations, individual giving, campaigns and events.

Our new Head of Education (HoE) will provide strategic direction to, and oversight for, all activities within our Education Department, including age 5 – 18 education and Higher Education. This will include responsibility for the annual budget, the line management of our Education Team, and liaison with our Education and Joint Higher Education Committees to deliver impactful and accessible initiatives that promote awareness and understanding of the Earth and beyond. In addition, the HoE will project manage the Society’s flagship ‘This is Geoscience’ initiative until 2028.

Today, we are a world-leading communicator of Earth science – through publishing, library and information services, cutting-edge scientific conferences, education activities and outreach to the general public. What you’ll be doing …

Working in partnership with senior staff, our Education Committee, and Trustees, you will advance the Society’s Education objectives in line with our Education Strategy, providing expertise and strategic direction to ensure the development of trusted Education initiatives for all ages.

You will be designing, planning, and delivering projects aimed at improving learning outcomes for young people, students, key stakeholders, and the wider geoscience community, as well as participating in government consultation and policy work where relevant. Beyond this, you can expect to foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and external partners to ensure that the Society continues to embed itself as an inclusive and reliable role model within the geoscience education space, and a leader to the wider geoscience community on a global scale.

 

Overall responsibilities / requirements …

Main Responsibilities:

• Manage the delivery and promotion of education initiatives across the Society, aligned with the objectives of our Education Strategy.
• Oversee the implementation and continued development of the Society’s Education Strategy, working with the Director of Science & Engagement to maintain and grow support from senior stakeholders across the organisation and the wider geoscience community.
• Oversee all work related to the training, professional development, and support of teachers – from the development and dissemination of quality resources to the delivery of training and capacity building programs.
• Provide strategic direction and managerial support toward the recruitment, maintenance and evolution of our education volunteer program.
• Promotion and dissemination of education resources and activity including relevant email marketing, social media campaigns and web content.
• Further develop the Society’s flagship ‘This is Geoscience’ initiative over the next two years, focusing on both education and careers support within UK secondary schools, and a global public engagement campaign focused on geoscience careers.
• Work collaboratively with, and support, relevant stakeholders to deliver existing education programs.
• Support the Education Team through attendance at Education Committee and Joint Higher Education Committee meetings, as well as with planning for and attending internal and external education events.
• Engage with the Higher Education sector and early career professionals via our Joint Higher Education Committee (JHEC) in partnership with University Geoscience UK (UGUK), and the Society’s Early Career Network, to promote geoscience as an undergraduate degree choice and a sustainable career path, with an awareness of EDIA related issues concerning widening participation.
• Maintain networks and connections across the geoscience education space to remain informed about the needs of teachers, students and the wider public in relation to geoscience education and careers.
• To be alert to new opportunities for collaboration, liaising with other senior managers and directors where relevant.

Activities:

• Develop interventions and initiatives for strategic objectives as ascribed, working alongside the Director of Science & Engagement where relevant.
• Monitor and report on the progress of strategic objectives to key stakeholders.
• Act as an ambassador for the department, celebrating successes internally and externally and identifying and acting on opportunities for improvement.
• Research on current and emerging trends in the education landscape with a view to raising opportunities to collaborate, apply for funding, further promote initiatives, and share best practice and ideas across the wider team.
• Attend, lead, or develop meetings and events relating to education at all levels on behalf of and for the geoscience community.

Collaborative working:

• Maintain and develop relationships with education professionals and organisations through stakeholder engagement activities.
• Lead the coordination of education projects with external stakeholders and partners to support the delivery of key deliverables (e.g. Earth Science Teachers Association, This is Geoscience, Geoscience for the Future, The Geographers Association, the Royal Geographical Society, University Geoscience UK, UK Geoscience Strategic Alliance).
• Working alongside the Chair of the Education Committee, attend and support the Education Team with providing secretariat for the Society’s Education Committee, reporting into our External Relations Committee.
• Working with the Head of Policy and Communications to carry out research with Fellows, partner organisations, and other stakeholders to contribute to education policy activity such as consultation responses, briefings, and public statements.
• Working alongside the ‘This is Geoscience’ project team, lead the project management of deliverables and outcomes to ensure the project meets its aims and objectives across the next two years.

The Elders is seeking an experienced fundraiser to grow and diversify its income (traditionally dominated by large, long-term, unrestricted donations), at an exciting point in the organisation’s history. 

Founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007, The Elders brings together independent global leaders who use their experience, influence and moral authority to work for peace, justice, human rights and a sustainable planet. The Elders’ 20th anniversary in 2027 is an opportunity to help shape the organisation’s next phase of philanthropic support. 

This is a stand-alone, high-impact fundraising role for someone with the experience, ambition and global perspective to build trusted relationships with major donors and other philanthropic partners around the world. 

The role 

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services and working closely with the Chief Executive and The Elders’ Advisory Council members, you will lead the development and implementation of The Elders’ fundraising strategy, with a particular focus on securing significant unrestricted funding alongside restricted support for specific projects. 

You will: 

 Build strong relationships with existing donors, working closely with Advisory Council members to leverage their networks and knowledge. 

Lead the full fundraising cycle from prospect identification and cultivation through to applications, stewardship and reporting. 

Develop and manage a global pipeline of major donors, including individuals, foundations, donor-advised funds and family offices. (The Elders has never accepted funding from governments or the general public.)

Identify new philanthropic opportunities across different countries and stay abreast of global giving trends, with a focus on geographical diversification of The Elders’ income. 

Develop compelling funding proposals and narratives that communicate the impact of The Elders’ complex international work. 

Manage donor budgets and reporting across multiple currencies. 

Contribute to the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability, including through exploring the possibility of setting up an endowment. 

Represent The Elders at donor meetings and events internationally.  

With the majority of The Elders’ income being unrestricted, you will play an important role in protecting the organisation’s independence and ability to respond to global events. The 20th anniversary in 2027 will also provide exciting opportunities to develop new philanthropic relationships and secure funding for significant initiatives. 

About you 

You will have extensive experience securing major gifts of $500k+, together with a sophisticated understanding of global philanthropy, and the gravitas to represent The Elders with very senior audiences. 

You will bring: 

Significant experience of major donor fundraising across individuals, foundations, donor-advised funds and/or family offices. 

In-depth knowledge of the US philanthropic landscape and strong understanding of European and global philanthropy, including in some Global South countries. 

Experience of cross-border giving and international fundraising, with the confidence and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships across cultures and at a senior level. 

A track record of developing fundraising strategies and building long-term donor relationships. 

Strong financial literacy, including managing donor budgets across multiple currencies. 

A flexible, hands-on and collaborative approach, with a commitment to the mission of The Elders. 

Experience of working within diplomacy, advocacy or international affairs would be particularly valuable. 

The opportunity

Richmond Borough Mind is a vibrant local charity that has been supporting and providing services for adults affected by mental health problems and their carers for over 60 years. 

We are excited to be looking for a Young Adults Peer Support Worker. You will have your own lived experience of mental ill health and be able to use this experience as well as your professional skills and knowledge, to support others.

With the expansion of our work in this area we aim to reduce waiting times, reduce the number of people going into crisis, address inequalities and support transitions from youth to adult services. We will be offering holistic and personalised care and support to service users and carers.

This role will carry caseload and deliver a range of support and person-centred interventions to meet these needs, which could include group support, one-to-one interventions and signposting where specialist advice is needed. Referrals could be young adults, careleavers, people currently under adult mental health services, or carers supporting people in the community.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about motivating and coaching individuals with mental health issues, and able to support people on their journey to recovery. As well as having an empathy with the core values of RB Mind, the successful applicants will have the skills to provide person-centred support, through one-to-one sessions and through facilitating groups. Bowel Research UK are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Events Officer to lead the delivery and growth of their challenge events programme.

This brand-new role to the charity will focus on recruiting, supporting and stewarding participants across a range of fundraising events, with responsibility for the charity's London Marathon programme and third-party challenge event portfolio.

The postholder will play a key role in growing participation and income from challenge events, ensuring supporters receive an exceptional experience from registration through to completion. Working closely as part of the fundraising team, the Events Officer will identify opportunities to expand the charity's events programme and maximise fundraising potential.
