CHOICE IN HACKNEY is seeking an experienced Advocacy Trainer and Mentor to join our Choices Into Work Project and play a key role in developing skilled and effective advocacy practitioners.
In this specialist role, you will be responsible for eight trainees/mentees each year and will develop and deliver an accredited training programme in either Disability Hate Crime or Disability & Domestic Violence, according to organisational need and learner demand.
You will design accessible training materials and deliver engaging sessions using presentations, group discussions, and practical exercises. Training will cover areas such as legislation, criminal justice processes, safeguarding, evidence gathering, advocacy, partnership working and the rights of disabled people. Domestic violence training may include safety planning, risk assessment, child protection, MARAC, housing, court processes and trauma-informed practice.
Alongside training, you will provide one-to-one and group mentoring throughout trainee placements. You will help trainees apply classroom learning to real advocacy situations, develop professional confidence and resilience, identify learning needs and build safe, person-centred advocacy skills.
Where appropriate, you will maintain a small advocacy caseload, supporting disabled people experiencing Disability Hate Crime and/or Domestic Violence with information, practical support, rights, safeguarding and criminal or civil justice processes. You will promote self-advocacy and work with specialist agencies including police, housing, legal and victim-support services.
We are looking for someone with significant advocacy or specialist support experience in Domestic Violence and/or Hate Crime, experience working with disabled people at risk, adult training and mentoring experience, and excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and trauma-informed practice.

About the Peer Support Transformation Project
The Peer Support Transformation Project is commissioned by South West London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust, and delivered in partnership with Sound Minds and Wandsworth Carers Centre.
The Trust review, allocate and coordinate patient referrals through Daily Integrated Allocation Meetings (DIAM). This is an internal operational and clinical triage process used by teams like the Integrated Recovery Hubs (IRH) and Single Point of Access (SPA) to signpost efficiently to care pathways to appropriate community services.
The aim of the Service is to support individuals through Peer Support for early intervention, help avoid crisis or deterioration, but also as a step down from more intensive clinical support to help reintegrate with the Community.
Given its framework of reference to the diversity of cultures and languages, Mushkil Aasaan is well-placed in the heart of the Community in being a Wellbeing Hub. This offers a spectrum of shared activities and opportunities that enhance the overall wellbeing and sense of belonging in navigating ‘Care for the Community by the Community’.
As such it is essential for this role to transcend Mushkil Aasaan’s ethos in enhancing the Peer Support Service in line with the wider aims of the Trust’s transformation programme in reducing health inequalities and reaching out to groups who experience barriers in accessing support. This Co-production aims to capitalise on the Community’s strengths in self-determination and people identifying their own goals, whilst creating an understanding of the dynamics and stigma that contribute to mental ill-health.
The Senior Peer Support Worker at Mushkil Aasaan will play a pivotal role in delivering tailored support to individuals facing emotional distress whilst focusing on their strengths and personal resources, aligning with their recovery goals and overall well-being. Community Fundraising Manager
Salary: Outer London Business Support Scale, Grade 5\6 (Spine Points 21.1 – 28), £32,064 - £36,579 per annum inclusive of London Weighting.

Main duties and responsibilities:
Membership engagement
Support potential new members through our member application process, prepare applications for review by the board
Arrange inductions with new members, including arranging induction meetings between senior staff and CEOs
Organise regular members’ meetings, contacting and liaising with speakers from across our membership and research networks, as well as parliamentarians and other policy-makers.
Ensure all our methods of engagement (meetings, events, comms, web content, etc) are accessible, liaising with participants, suppliers, venues, etc to ensure that access needs are met
Maintain our member and research network contact lists and support the Head of Policy and Engagement in maintaining contact lists for parliamentary contacts, using Mailchimp
Take ownership of longer-term projects to support and improve our membership engagement offer
Use membership engagement to support the wider team in its long-term efforts to protect the equality and human rights legal framework
Communications and Engagement
Draft and send member updates regularly, informing our members about opportunities for collaboration, and upcoming meetings and events
Draft and send newsletters to our audience of 5,000, providing updates on the work of our membership as well as news and updates from government and public bodies
Draft and schedule LinkedIn and other social media posts to share information about our work and that of our members.
Update and manage the website with any relevant news or information.
Monitor and report on engagement levels with our newsletters, member updates, social and web content, suggesting areas for improvement.
Use communications tools and techniques to mobilise support for the protection of the equality and human rights legal framework.
Policy and team support
Organise meetings and events; including timelines, sending invites and reminders, speaker liaison, logistics and planning.
Draft meeting agendas and send along with any supporting documentation in advance of any meetings.
Take the minutes at various meetings, summarise for distribution, and follow up on any actions.
Monitor and report on the attendance levels of our members’ meetings, working group meetings and events.
Draft and administer satisfaction and impact surveys, and report on the results.
Support the wider team to conduct its policy influencing work for example, through government consultations and correspondence with policy makers.
Person Specification (Essential Skills and Experience):
Communication skills:
Very strong oral and written communication skills, coupled with an ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
An ability to quickly adapt to our unique tone of voice in your communications, ensuring that your language and tone are accessible and sensitive to the topics being written about.
A willingness to understand and adopt a human rights-based approach in your language, understanding the power of words and how they might uplift or diminish people.
Organisational skills:
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Strong attention to detail whilst maintaining the ability to work quickly and responsively.
Demonstrable experience of using platforms such as Eventbrite and Microsoft Teams to manage large meetings and online events, and Microsoft SharePoint for file management.
Interpersonal skills:
The ability to liaise and engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, and create and sustain positive, collaborative relationships.
High levels of emotional intelligence and resilience including an ability to hold and manage difficult feelings and conversations with tact and sensitivity.
Understanding and ability to manage how privilege and inequality can impact in the workplace for yourself, colleagues and external stakeholders.
Professional skills and experience:

Background
Sundial Centre for Education on Harmful Practices (“Sundial” previously called Oxford Against Cutting) delivers high quality education and training on harmful practices, such as female genital mutilation (FGM), ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA) and online harms. We offer safeguarding training for teams of professionals such as teachers, police and social workers. We also deliver lessons in schools, as well as workshops for community groups. We ensure people from FGM- and HBA- affected communities and young people are at the forefront of our work and our workshops are often delivered with facilitators with lived experience.
We are currently seeking an Operations Coordinator to provide professional and efficient and specialist administrative support.
Job description
To contact with schools and relevant institutions to promote Sundial’s training and workshops
To liaise with schools/organisations and facilitators to coordinate bookings of Sundial’s training and workshops, including logistics and timetables
To organise team meetings
To draft invoices and maintain records
To assist with keeping contact databases and records up to date
To draft, type and dispatch charity office correspondence
Maintain the bookings calendar
Maintain DBS, safeguarding and training records
To assist in scheduling social media posts
To support the CEO and Research & Operations Manager where appropriate
To attend regular meetings as required
