This is an exciting time to join an organisation with an established youth work provision, strong reputation in private, public and voluntary sectors, and a successful track record of grants and trusts which includes a capital expenditure investment of £1.4M.

Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)

About the Role

As Chief Executive, you will combine inspirational leadership with a strong, hands-on approach to fundraising and commercial direction. Acting as a visible ambassador for the Youth Zone, you will build trust with partners across the city, influence at a regional and national level, and lead with integrity, creativity and purpose to ensure lasting impact for young people and the communities we serve.

Alongside fundraising leadership, you will provide strategic direction, financial clarity and cultural leadership to a values-driven organisation focused relentlessly on young people. You will empower a talented Senior Leadership Team and wider workforce to deliver high-quality, inclusive youth work, while ensuring strong safeguarding, and a safe, inspiring facility that remains fit for purpose.

You will report to the Chair of the Board, through a high support and high challenge relationship, managing an annual budget of approx. £1.2-£1.5m p.a. ensuring the Youth Zone delivers a high-quality offer to local young people.

About You

We are looking for a proven leader with significant fundraising experience who can demonstrate success in building long-term relationships with major donors (£25k+), corporate partners, trusts and statutory funders, and who can confidently translate ambition into a diverse, resilient income pipeline that secures the future of the organisation.

You will have experience of:

• Successful senior leadership experience within a charity or similar complex organisation.
• Experience of hands-on fundraising, such as securing and stewarding major donors (£25k+), corporates, trusts and statutory funding.
• Developing and delivering organisational strategies and business plans.
• Leading financially sustainable organisations with strong governance and controls.
• Developing and overseeing high-quality youth-focused services or programmes.
• Working within multi-agency environments, particularly around safeguarding.

About the Organisation

The Youth Zone is a limited charity that has been delivering high quality youth provision for 12 years. Originally commissioned with MyPlace funding, the organisation has become a community hub in Harpurhey, North Manchester – one of the poorest wards in England with 94% of youth members come from 1st/ 2nd indices on the national poverty index scale, where cost of living increases impacted hard and caused further adversity and inequality.

• Leading the planning, building, and delivery of all email communications for UK and US audiences.
• Developing and optimising automated email journeys using segmentation and behavioural triggers to improve engagement and retention.

You should have:

• Proven experience in a digital engagement role, preferably in the non-profit sector
• Proven expertise managing website content (WordPress or similar).

• Experience in writing compelling and effective copy to engage specific audiences
• Basic understanding of HTML/CSS.
• Strong understanding of UX principles, accessibility, and responsive design.

What the job involves 

You’ll lead our business development strategy for corporate partnerships, focusing on securing high-value, purpose-driven relationships with long-term potential (typically 6–8 figure), and building a robust pipeline to deliver sustainable income growth. 

• Own and deliver the business development plan, targeting major prospects and flagship partnerships with transformational potential. 

• Identify, prioritise and cultivate opportunities across key sectors (including sport and health), shifting activity from short-term, transactional asks to insight-led, multi-year partnerships.

What we want from you

• A strong track record of delivering income through new business acquisition, with credible examples of taking prospects from first contact through to signed agreement. 

• Confidence developing high-value propositions and partnership packages that work for both the organisation and the partner. 

• Excellent pipeline management skills, with experience improving conversion rates, forecasting and proposal turnaround times. 

• Strong influencing and negotiation skills, comfortable engaging senior stakeholders and navigating complex internal decision-making. 

• Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to coach, set clear expectations and build a high-performing specialist team.

JOB PURPOSE

UK for UNHCR is looking for an ambitious and proactive fundraiser to work in a Senior Philanthropy Officer role for up to one year’s maternity cover. This role will manage its own portfolio of low to mid-level trusts and foundations and will play a key role in supporting the Senior Trusts & Foundations Manager on the engagement and stewardship of our high-level partnerships, as well as supporting on the delivery of a high-quality supporter experience.

You will be joining the charity at an exciting moment, becoming part of a small but high performing team with big ambitions. This role is integral to the development of our Trusts and Foundations Programme.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and determined and who enjoys working collaboratively within and across teams, building relationships and inspiring people to support UNHCR’s lifesaving work. You’ll have strong problem solving and communication skills, both written and oral. You’ll be passionate about the refugee cause and UK for UNHCR’s role in supporting refugees around the globe.

Working with our international colleagues, this role will gather information for reports, donor communications and proposals on UNHCR’s key areas of work.

This role will also work across the team to support on growing the trusts and foundations pipeline, through identifying and then building relationships with trusts and foundations aligned with our cause.

Some international travel may be required.

Role Responsibilities  

• Work as part of the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy Team (PPH) to develop new opportunities with trusts and foundations in line with UK for UNHCR’s fundraising strategy. This will include supporting and leading initiatives to approach potential supporters.
• Support the development and management of a robust trusts & foundations pipeline and a calendar of opportunities for grant submissions to trusts and foundations.
• Undertake detailed prospect research and identify the most appropriate funding and fundraising opportunities for trusts and foundations.
• Support the development of high-quality concept notes, proposals, reports, and other fundraising products.
• Ensure current partners are stewarded to a high standard
• Support, and at times lead, on cultivation and stewardship events across the PPH team. This could be anything from a webinar to an in-person event for 50+ people.
• Support and lead on the development and execution of strong cultivation and stewardship plans, taking responsibility for keeping these updated and reviewed.
• Help establish an appropriate strategic and tactical response to trust and foundation prospects and supporters in the event of humanitarian emergencies.
• Maintain the Salesforce database with up-to-date and accurate information on trust and foundation prospects and partners.
• Help to raise awareness of, and build vital support for, UK for UNHCR’s unique position to protect refugees and displaced people.
• Work within UK for UNHCR’s due diligence and GDPR policies and processes.
• Ensure accurate income recording and earmarking procedures to facilitate financial reporting.
• Support the PPH team in other activities as requested.

Personal Attributes and Experience

Essential Experience

• Experience of working in a fundraising capacity with an NGO or INGO to identify, approach, secure and steward trusts & foundations and/or major donors.
• Experience of devising and delivering impactful and engaging proposals and communications to generate income and build relationships.
• Experience of working across a busy team and managing a busy workload.

 Essential Skills/Knowledge

• Ability to analyse reports and communicate complex themes and subjects to a variety of audiences, written and verbal.
• Ability to act proactively to identify new prospects and fundraising opportunities.
• Ability to juggle and prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines within a collaborative team environment.
• Good attention to detail and ability to proof-read.
• Able to demonstrate flexibility, with a willingness to respond quickly, particularly at times of humanitarian crisis.
• Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills.
• Proficient in using Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of fundraising databases.

Desirable Skills/Experience (not compulsory)

• Experience of working in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
• Experience of fundraising at an international development, human rights, or humanitarian NGO.

You will be responsible for developing mutually beneficial relationships based on understanding of the “why” and matching that with the benefits of working with In Kind Direct. You will possess commercial hunger, drive, and a desire to deliver results against clear KPI’s. 

Crucially, you will have experience building new partnerships with organisations in several key categories for which you will have ownership. You will be aware of the prospective organisations’ internal and external business drivers, understand their KPI’s and know how to build propositions that excite them. You will be able to demonstrate how you have delivered results within this environment. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
 
Partner Management: 

• Accountability for the value distributed, engagement, frequency of donation, campaign participation, financial contributions and relevant KPIs of partner portfolio. 
• Protect, nurture and grow relationships with a defined number of existing corporate partners (retail and non-retail), developing persuasive and tailored proposals, progress reports and analysis. 
• Support the shift from surplus donations to planned donations which could be through retailer/sales activations
• Use a tiered approach to prioritise and build deeper relationships, shifting from reactive to proactive planning, and develop joint business plans with priority partners. 
• Work closely with the Marketing and Charity network team to maximise corporate involvement and engagement in the events and content programme. 
• Work with several cross functional teams as required, from ecomm, finance, charity network and operations and customer service teams. 
• Negotiate contracts with corporate partners

 
Business Development 

• To research and identify suitable prospective corporate partners for securing donations of product in line with the charity and network-user needs. 
• Creativity to propose new ideas, and propositions to drive value for In Kind Direct and its network. 
• Creatively utilise In Kind Direct Campaigns, network feedback, research and data points to unlock new conversations, including retailer activations

 
Presentation and Analysis 

• Produce and develop compelling proposals and presentations for a wide range of corporate partnership audiences, from staff to senior executives. 
• Maintain accurate records, analysis & reporting of activity on in-house CRM system. 
• Maintain a strong external profile as an ambassador for the charity, whilst keeping up to date with developments in the Corporate and Charity Sector. 
• Work closely with Head of Corporate Partnerships & Head of Business Development to ensure robust forecasting of corporate accounts including accurate maintenance of product donation and corporate financial pipelines

• Relevant commercial experience in sales, account management or relationship management

With nationally recognised, award-winning partnerships as our platform, matched with a record-high brand sentiment rating, a highly prominent cause and a marketplace looking for long-term strategic partnerships, we are building the team infrastructure to maximise our strong position through the launch of two developed functions – Account Development and Business Development. 

What the job involves 

This is a senior role in our Partnerships team, heading up our newly formed Account Development function and playing a key part in transforming how we grow income from existing corporate partnerships.

You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of high‑value, complex partnerships, many of which are moving from lower‑value arrangements into higher impact, mutually beneficial multi‑year partnerships as part of our longer‑term growth strategy. This is not a “steady state” account management role – it’s about developing, expanding and unlocking untapped potential in relationships.

In practice, this means you’ll: 

• Lead the delivery and growth of a portfolio of major corporate partnerships, ensuring campaigns are well‑executed and partnerships are delivering real value, income and impact.
