Position

Hope for Justice is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic professional to join our UK Advocacy Team as an Independent Modern Slavery Advocate (IMSA), who is able to work directly with survivors, offering legal advocacy and specialist support and advice.

As an Independent Modern Slavery Advocate (IMSA), you will provide advocacy and victim services to survivors of modern slavery in the UK - managing a caseload, conducting assessments and developing pathways for survivors.

Key Result Areas:

• Progressing caseload from initial assessment to closure, addressing identified needs
• Building and maintaining partnerships with other organisations (including state and NGO) to create opportunities for survivors of modern slavery
• Supporting the Reforming Society agenda – providing evidence base for reform; providing advice and training, where necessary, to agencies in the community to improve responses to victims of modern slavery thus creating lasting structural change

We are recruiting a full-time Funding Officer working across Birmingham & Solihull on a fixed term contract up until December 2024. 

You’ll be part of a team of 6, led by two Funding Managers and working alongside 3 other full time Funding Officers, as part of The Birmingham & Solihull patch which works within a larger Midlands team.

Ideally you will live in or near to Birmingham and have an excellent knowledge of the city. This role is classed as mobile working which means you will be expected to work from and visit several locations across the area, including your home. The ability to drive and have access to a vehicle is therefore beneficial, although not essential.

• You will assess applications for funding and manage grants using local knowledge, best practice, thematic expertise and the experience of customers and stakeholders to improve our grant making and inform our decision making.

• You will also need to support our stakeholders, helping them to make connections that will help them achieve their goals.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to support the research activities of the Patient Evidence Department of Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE).

Main Duties and responsibilities

Perform the following duties in conjunction with and under the guidance of the Head of Patient Research:

• Plan and conduct assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with project deliverables and department strategy
• Document research output including analysis and interpretation of data, maintaining records and databases, drafting progress reports and publications
• Maintain accurate records of patient data, safeguarding the confidentiality of patients and patient data, as necessary
• Writing for internal / external audiences (including academic journals, lay summaries, and, progress reports)
• Contribute to the dissemination of work including presentations at international and national conferences, internal and external meetings and workshops

About you:

• A good undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area and either postgraduate qualification or equivalent research experience
• Knowledge and experience of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
• Understanding of principles of Good Clinical Practice in research
• Knowledge and experience of ethical review procedures (desirable)
• Ability to work from home in a virtual setting with a team spread across Europe
• Experience in a related field desirable – preferably working in a non-profit organisation, academic / clinical research, or medical/scientific setting

About MPE

Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE) is a pan-European organisation representing 52 myeloma and amyloidosis patient groups from over 33 European countries. It is registered as an international non-profit organisation under Belgian Law. A Board mainly composed of patients and caregivers is elected by the membership to oversee the strategy and governance of the organisation. A team of 13 staff members runs remotely the day-to-day operations, programmes and services within 4 divisions: Access and Policy, Medical Education and Scientific Engagement, Patient Evidence and Member and Patient Community Programmes.

MPE is dedicated to improving the treatment, care and quality of life of patients with myeloma and AL Amyloidosis. To this end, the main goals of the organisation are:

• Collaborating on projects to the benefit of the myeloma community
• Exchanging information and best practice
• Developing existing patient groups and encouraging and facilitating the setting up of new groups
• Helping to shape appropriate health-related policies and initiatives on a European and national level
• Ensuring patients across Europe receive timely access to new treatment
• Stimulating and promoting patient-centred research and clinical trials
• Developing a strong evidence base for the needs and wants of patients and their role in research

About the Patient Evidence department

The MPE Patient Evidence department was established in 2020 to generate evidence important to patients with myeloma and their families and is led by Dr Eilidh Duncan. Our goal is to understand unmet needs in the patient population and design patient-focussed research questions which will support new understandings and knowledge. MPE partners with academia, other patient organisations, industry and regulatory bodies where possible to understand more about what gaps exist within the myeloma landscape and how to best generate evidence on these. We work alongside MPE’s policy and access team to anticipate what questions need to be asked and what the data needs are for upcoming medicines approval processes.

You’ll provide expert nursing advice, support and information on Parkinson’s and related conditions to people contacting Parkinson’s UK national helpline. 

You’ll empower people affected by Parkinson’s, their families, friends and carers to live lives that are as fulfilling as possible whatever that means to them; and that they feel able to take an active role in their treatment and become their own advocate in health and life, wherever possible.

What you’ll do:

• Provide expert telephone nursing advice, support and information on Parkinson’s, signposting clients to appropriate internal and external resources as necessary.

• Develop and update professional knowledge of all aspects of Parkinson’s and Parkinsonism to ensure that the information and advice provided is accurate and based on best available evidence.

• Undertake national helpline work to ensure cover across the helpline’s working hours and in line with guidance and as part of a dedicated team.

• Maintain your own knowledge of the work of the charity and other health and social care providers.

What you’ll bring:

• Ability to provide information on Parkinson’s medications without prescribing or recommending specific drugs. 

• Knowledge of the importance of raising safeguarding concerns.

• Experience of providing telephone support, including use of active listening and questioning skills, and demonstrable digital competence, including online case management systems

• Ability to cope with challenging or emotional situations and/or people. 

• Able to work collaboratively and in partnership with others.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Client Services Team which operates within HBF’s vibrant, multi-disciplinary team. The duties of Client Services Administrator are two-fold 1) is to host our busy reception area and friendly waiting room; welcome clients and visiting professionals to the Helen Bamber Foundation and attend to any needs they might have and 2) to oversee the booking of appointments between clients and staff/volunteers across the organisation; liaising with third parties and clinicians in relation to Initial Assessments; booking and managing doctor’s diaries for our Medical Advisory Services and the booking of interpreters across the organisation. You will be at the heart of an exciting team of experts, working as the face of HBF and the first point of contact for both external and internal queries.  You will be a self-motivating team player, organised, efficient and have a compassionate mind-set.

The role will work closely with the other person in post as Client Services Administrator and jointly manage the workload. The role also includes assistance and general facilities support to the Senior Operations and HR Coordinator.

We have an exciting 18-month fixed term opportunity to join British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Health Partnerships & Community Resuscitation Team to deliver partnerships which make a lifesaving, life improving impact.

Through our work we want to reach more people, in new ways, with greater impact, involving more people in their heart and circulatory health and care, and in the work of BHF. This will improve health outcomes and help ensure that BHF strengthens its position as the nation’s heart charity.

About the role

In this role you’ll contribute to the operational delivery of innovative health partnerships for BHF. These partnerships help us to reach, on a mass scale, people at risk or living with heart and circulatory diseases; working with large corporate organisations, other charities, and community groups to provide information, support and skills in innovative ways to improve health awareness, support self-management and reduce health inequalities.

As part of the Health Partnerships team, you’ll support several health partners, delivering agreed activity and maximising the opportunity to reach their workforce and customers with our free health initiatives.

You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across BHF particularly in our Medical and Marketing, Fundraising and Engagement teams, as well as external partners to meet agreed aims and objectives. You’ll also work closely with other delivery teams (e.g. Clinical Support, Health Content, Community Resuscitation and Customer Service Teams) to create an integrated and seamless customer experience for your partners.

Obtaining a comprehensive knowledge of our health offerings during your induction, you’ll develop a warm and productive relationship with your key accounts and ensure the delivery of activity is fulfilled effectively and efficiently and that your partners needs and opportunities for growth are appropriately identified so that they receive the best possible experience from the BHF. 

Working arrangements

Please note this is an 18 month fixed term contract.

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

About you

With knowledge and an understanding of BHF and organisational objectives, you’ll have previous experience delivering projects in large, complex organisations, as well as the knack of  developing relationships with internal and external key stakeholders quickly, and with ease.

You’ll have previous experience supporting the delivery of high impact partnerships in either a charity or health-related environment and will have experience managing own workload and key areas of responsibility.

To be successful in this role you’ll have the following skills and experience:

• Excellent planning and prioritisation skills, with the flexibility to deal with reactive demands

In this role you will have opportunity to design and deliver innovative youth support programmes, groups & other activities; provide LGBTQ+ affirmative support, guidance and mentoring on a one- to- one basis; work with our wider family work programme, support families with LGBTQ+ children and deliver work in schools to students & teaching staff.

You will have lead responsibility for our LGBTQ+ Young Peoples Service, including promotion, & administration, along with the induction, support & supervision of sessional staff & volunteers. 

Initially you will be working remotely via home-based working whilst elop relocates its offices & centre transitioning back to fulltime in-person working & service provision during 2024.  Some services are in person in East London. 

Full Time: 37 hours per week   

You must be available to work Tuesday evenings & once a month on a Sunday afternoon.  There will be other evenings and occasional other weekend working required.

The Welfare Scheme Assessor will be a part of a small, but committed team with big ambitions that works cohesively and effectively together to get things done.

You’ll be an important and valued member of the team and, with the support of North Lincolnshire Citizens Advice, will be responsible for ensuring client focused outcomes are met in a pressurised environment.

You’ll be the first point of contact for residents applying for support from the welfare assistance scheme. You’ll offer applicants a holistic assessment designed to maximise household income, reduce expenditure and build greater financial wellbeing.

You’ll enable people to move as quickly as possible to problem resolution and to manage their essential needs so they are less likely to fall into debt and manage cost of living increases.

You’ll be responsible for making decisions on applications for financially based welfare support and will administer funds to households who would otherwise struggle to buy food or pay essential utility bills or meet other essential living costs.

You’ll enable people to take control of their financial wellbeing and signpost them to local statutory services and community groups that provide practical, social and emotional support.

Sanctuary Schemes are multi-agency victim-centred initiatives that aim to enable households at risk of violence to remain safely in their own homes by installing a 'Sanctuary' in the home and through the provision of support to the household. As a Sanctuary Scheme Specialist, you will support the sanctuary service by carrying out comprehensive assessments of service users and their homes and helping providers to ensure safety improvements are made. Joining our fast-paced team and focusing on short-term activities, you will manage a caseload of survivors, ensuring they have access and encouraging their engagement. You will conduct comprehensive assessments of needs and risk for women experiencing domestic violence, carry out risk management, safety planning and support; and you will identify and refer to services appropriate to their needs.
