Job description

Interim Financial Accountant (Charities) - Part-Time Contract

Rate: £400-£425 per day
Commitment: 3 days per week (with flexibility for additional days during audit periods)
Location: London-based organisation, with significant flexibility and fully remote working available for the right candidate

An established charitable organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Accountant to provide additional technical accounting support during the preparation and audit of multiple charity statutory accounts.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accountant with strong charity sector experience who enjoys working independently and taking ownership of complex financial reporting deliverables.

The Role

Reporting into the senior finance leadership team, you will take responsibility for preparing statutory financial statements for a portfolio of charitable entities, ensuring compliance with FRS 102, the Charities SORP, and relevant legislation.

You will work closely with finance colleagues across several entities and play a key role in supporting the external audit process through to completion.

Alongside core financial reporting responsibilities, there will be opportunities to contribute to improvements in financial controls, processes, and reporting frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts for multiple charitable entities.
  • Ensure compliance with FRS 102, Charities SORP and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Support and manage external audit queries through to completion.
  • Prepare consolidated accounts, including inter-entity eliminations.
  • Review and reconcile complex accounting transactions.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the wider organisation.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial reporting processes and controls.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong accountant who can quickly get up to speed and work with minimal supervision.

You will ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification.
  • Recent experience preparing charity statutory accounts under FRS 102 and the Charities SORP.
  • Strong knowledge of fund accounting.
  • Experience preparing consolidated or group accounts.
  • Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems.
  • The ability to manage multiple workstreams and tight reporting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within charities, membership organisations, education, or not-for-profit environments.
  • Exposure to investment portfolios, endowment funds, or complex charitable structures.
  • Experience supporting external audits from planning through to completion.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to work with a highly regarded organisation on a flexible part-time basis. While the preference is for some attendance at the London office, there is flexibility available and fully remote working can be considered for candidates with particularly strong relevant experience.
