• Maintain a risk register and oversee compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

The successful CEO will join this organisation at the beginning of their new strategy and will be required to ensure the successful launch of new services and initiatives. The position will be based at their head office in Sevenoaks and requires regular office attendance. The package includes 30 days of annual leave, increasing to 35 after five years’ worth of service and other generous employee benefits!

Essential criteria:

• Degree-level education required; professional qualification (e.g., MBA, CIPD, CCAB) preferred.
• Proven track record in leading organisational change at a senior level, preferably in the charity or social care sector.
• Strong financial management experience with a sound understanding of budgeting and income generation strategies.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to drive positive change aligned with organizational objectives.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

1. Proven experience in a leadership role within the non-profit sector, preferably in an international context.
2. Experience in overseeing programmatic and income generation activities, demonstrating the ability to integrate these functions effectively.
3. Proven experience in successfully raising funds from diverse income streams such as grants, donations, sponsorships, events, and partnerships.
4. Experience in managing diverse teams and complex projects across multiple countries and contexts.
5. Proven experience in change management and driving organisational development initiatives.
6. Proven financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

The Thalidomide Trust is seeking a collaborative, inspiring and empathetic leader to join as our next Director of Health & Wellbeing, providing leadership to a committed and expert team as we work to deliver the best possible support to thalidomide survivors as they enter older age.

The Thalidomide Trust was established as a registered charity in 1973 to support individuals living with disabilities caused by their mothers taking thalidomide during pregnancy. Today, our support encompasses financial grants and guidance, together with comprehensive health and wellbeing support (including emotional support). We also undertake research to better understand the needs of our beneficiaries and provide vital information resources for professionals working with them. Secure funding means we can focus entirely on how to improve the lives of our beneficiaries.

We assist 430 beneficiaries, most of whom the Trust has worked with since they were children. We are often the first port of call for any issues they face. As our beneficiaries are now in their 60s, we must continue to evolve to meet their changing needs. The Trust is approaching a crucial transition point - effectively becoming an older person’s charity over the next 10-20 years, as the group’s needs become ever more complex and diverse. We must ensure we are ready to provide much-needed support to our beneficiaries as they face the typical challenges of aging that impact them more as thalidomide survivors, as well as the unique impacts and accelerated aging caused by thalidomide damage.

Our current Director of Health & Wellbeing is taking on the Joint Chief Executive role with our existing Executive Director. This means we need a new Director of Health & Wellbeing to join in October this year to lead our fantastic, 12-strong team of health & wellbeing professionals though this transition period. They will ensure they have the resources and skills to support our beneficiaries into this next phase of life, maintain and build on our award-winning culture, contribute to the development of the Trust’s next Five-Year Strategic Plan, and lead the implementation of the health and wellbeing objectives and deliverables within the plan.

In particular, we host Submit to Love; a studio and home to a collective of self-taught artists - all of whom have survived brain injuries. Our studio has developed a set of unique practices and interests, refined over more than a decade. Our specialist neurological therapy service is renowned for its unique interdisciplinary approach.

Our work is guided by the principle of co-production. Projects aim to be co-produced in response to our members’ needs, desires, and ambitions. We’re now searching for a new Chief Executive Officer to drive our current strategy and continue to support our members to be both happy and to fulfil their potential. • Provide financial risk assessment reports and mitigation strategies to the Board in a timely fashion 

• Ensure the financial sustainability of HRI and its capacity to achieve its strategic objectives

• Devise and implement fundraising strategies and plans to ensure that the organisation can meet its operational budgetary needs 

• Identify and engage with fundraising prospects and sources, and cultivate relationships with current and prospective funders

Operational and Management

• Oversee all aspects of programme planning development and evaluation

• Ensure that all programme components are strategically coordinated and contribute to overall organisational objectives

• Oversee further development of a communications strategy that positions HRI effectively, protects its reputation, and identifies opportunities to promote its key messages and activities

• Recruit and manage staff, and ensure appropriate organisational structures with clear roles and responsibilities 

• Ensure regular performance evaluations, feedback loops, and training and professional development and education for all staff

• Manage administrative matters relating to staff, including legal and health and safety requirements, and required policies and processes 

• Oversee risk management and legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements

• Implement appropriate policies, including internal controls and accounting standards and procedures

Since its creation in 1987 Education for Health has been providing education and training to Healthcare Professionals. We provide a range of Higher Education courses from Certificate to a full master’s programme along with a growing range of Essentials, Refreshers and webinars across a range of long term conditions.

During the pandemic we created a new model of delivery – an interactive blended online learning model (IBOL), enabling people to access their learning at a time and a pace that suits them. This is supplemented by live interactive webinars and recorded lectures.

This is a pivotal time for the charity; the pandemic had an adverse impact on our income as weary healthcare professionals had no time or energy to devote to training. However, it provided us with an ideal opportunity to refresh our products using state of the art authoring tools and develop a new Learning Management System (LMS). The result was an ambitious automation programme, organisational restructure and functional realignment.

As a member of the Executive Team, the Director of Finance and Organisational Performance will use their experience, ideas, and knowledge of finance and organisational performance to lead Education for Health’s Finance, Systems, Information, Data and People functions to fulfil our business plan, supporting healthcare professionals to improve health outcomes.

We are looking for candidates who can offer:

•   An accountancy qualification (CCAB qualified)
•   Senior leadership experience with a track record of delivering ambitious goals in fast-moving organisations across a broad portfolio of functions including finance and technology.
•   Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with clear commitment to collaborative working and able to build strong and effective internal relationships.

We're offering you the opportunity to become the Director of Education of the British Institute of Radiology (BIR), an international membership organisation for everyone working in imaging, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences.

As Director of Education, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the educational direction of the BIR. It's a leadership position which involves overseeing the development of new initiatives, programmes and strategies to enhance the BIR’s educational offerings and outcomes, and the post-holder will be responsible for the strategic focus and financial performance of the BIR Education programme.

We're half way through our new five-year strategy, and the education team plays a key role in helping to ensure the BIR remains financially sustainable, offering education to more people, and helping expand the membership. The role has also recently been recently expanded to include leadership for two important new roles in Communications and Partnerships, and both positions will be responsible for leading and delivering their respective strategies as part of the wider strategy.

Our new Director of Education will be experienced in developing and implementing successful education strategies at senior level, which will include new business development, income generation or building revenue streams, as well as experience of creating, managing and reporting on budgets.

You'll have had experience of educational events as well as the development of online educational activities, such as virtual events, webpages or apps, and you'll be adept at managing projects and working with stakeholders to achieve outcomes. Finally, you'll also be an experienced line manager, capable of supporting, nurturing and bringing out the best in your teams.

Although we offer flexible working, it is envisaged that the successful candidate is able to work from our London office at least 2 days per week, between Monday to Wednesday. National and occasional international travel might also be required.
