We’re looking for a Head of Finance to lead and support our finance function for six months, ensuring that the organisation receives an excellent finance service.
About this role:
As Head of Finance, you will:
- take day-to-day responsibility for the finance and accounting functions, ensuring systems are working effectively, suppliers are paid, payroll is completed, and ensure the new finance system meets the needs of the organisation,
- line manage and develop a team of finance professionals, ensuring an effective financial service is provided to the organisation through their expertise, championing continuous improvement,
- be accountable for the effectiveness of the charity’s annual budgeting and forecasting, and contribute to the updating of our five-year strategic plan.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will need to be an experienced, qualified accountant who is comfortable working in large, complex organisations. You’ll need the ability to lead a dynamic team of finance professionals, from day-to-day support to professional development. Stakeholder engagement is a big part of this role, so you should feel comfortable working across the organisation with different teams and ‘breaking down barriers’ to develop key relationships. About this team:
The purpose of the Finance Department is to support the rest of Dogs Trust in achieving the strategic aims of the charity. They work to ensure financial (and non-financial) systems and controls function effectively and limit the exposure of the charity to related risks, providing accurate, timely financial information and of course, paying suppliers in a timely fashion.

A National Museum renowned for housing once of the finest arts collections in the world is currently seeking an Interim Financial Controller to join the team for an initial 6 month period.
Reporting into the Director of Finance & Resources, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the organisation and is the first point of contract for internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and time financial reporting and produce monthly management accounts.
Duties will include the following:
- Preparation of all routine and ad hoc reports drawn from accounting records
- Production of monthly management accounts, including variance analysis
- Monthly reports for all budget holders
- Coding of all self-generated income, ensuring that recognition complies with the relevant accounting standards
- Maintenance of the Fixed Asset register (reconciliation performed annually as part of the year end process)
- Payroll reconciliation (payroll is performed by an external third party provider)
- Preparation of the annual budget and periodic reforecasts of budget throughout the year
- Monthly counting and banking of the donation boxes
- Regular monitoring of bank accounts and working capital

About the role
Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the role will manage and motivate the Treasury team ensuring that it runs as an efficient and effective service whilst fulfilling internal and external customer requirements.
Key to the role is managing the Association’s portfolio of over £850m of bank loans and capital borrowings, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date records are maintained, and excellent relationships are preserved with our banking and institutional investor partners.
The Head of Treasury is also responsible for creating and maintaining the long-term financial business plan for the Association and producing detailed sensitivity analysis and multi-variant stress-testing.
About you
You will be a subject matter expert and will drive continuous improvement in the efficiency, security and control of daily treasury and business planning activities.
Holding a professional accountancy qualification, (eg ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and ideally a treasury qualification (eg MCT, ACT) you will:
- Be proactive with the ability to work to a general brief with minimal supervision
- Have excellent financial analytical and treasury skills
- Have experience of managing a loan portfolio in excess of £500m
- Have experience of negotiating and managing loan agreements with banks
- Have experience of arranging borrowings from institutional investors through the capital markets
- Have the ability and experience to develop and maintain appropriate treasury systems procedures and internal financial controls
- Have experience of building and maintaining complex business plan models
- Be a great leader and able to manage and motivate staff to achieve high standards of performance

Support is needed on an interim basis for 6 months. Reporting to the Deputy s151 Officer, this role will be responsible for providing timely and accurate financial advice and information to managers to help them control and manage their own finances.

About You
* Be a qualified accountant, have experience of working in a fast paced, challenging environment and can demonstrate considerable financial knowledge of accounting standards and codes of practice, ideally in Local Government, in the completion of annual accounts.
