Sounds great, what will I be doing?
This role is at the heart of supporting people through periods of mental health crisis, providing compassionate, person-centred support from referral and admission through to discharge. You will work closely with residents to understand their strengths, needs, goals and risks, developing personalised wellbeing, safety and recovery plans that help them stabilise and move forward. Through one-to-one and group support, you will use a range of non-clinical, trauma-informed and psychologically informed approaches, including emotional support, active listening, problem-solving, safety planning, recovery planning and practical assistance. You will empower residents to build on their strengths, develop independence, strengthen social connections and access community resources that support their ongoing recovery and wellbeing.
As a Recovery Worker, you will exercise professional judgement to respond to residents' changing needs, providing calm and effective support during periods of heightened distress while maintaining a strong focus on safety and recovery. You will support people experiencing a range of complex challenges, including severe mental health difficulties, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, psychotic experiences and substance misuse, using de-escalation and other appropriate non-clinical interventions. Working within the boundaries of the role, you will assess risks, develop and review safety plans, collaborate with external agencies and escalate concerns when specialist, clinical or emergency intervention is required. You will also play an important role in helping residents develop practical life skills, prepare for discharge and create sustainable plans for maintaining their wellbeing and independence beyond the service.

We are looking for someone with experience of supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties and complex needs within a mental health, social care, housing, crisis or community-based setting. You will have a good understanding of the impact that mental health crisis can have on individuals and be confident in delivering person-centred, recovery-focused support that is strengths-based, trauma-informed and psychologically informed. You will be comfortable working with people experiencing significant emotional distress and able to recognise changes in presentation, assess risk and respond appropriately within the boundaries of a non-clinical role.
You will be a collaborative and compassionate professional with a strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, confidentiality and professional boundaries. You'll be able to work effectively with a range of professionals, services and partner agencies, maintain accurate records using electronic systems, and demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of your work. An understanding of co-production and the importance of involving people with lived experience in shaping support is also essential.
