Job Title: Legal Casework Manager

*This role sits within a pay grade with a pay range of £33,367 to £50,051. The salary on appointment will be set at the lower end of the pay range, to a maximum of £41,709 depending on the candidate's skills and experience. Context and purpose of role

At Ramblers we work to empower the public and volunteers to take action to protect paths and access – by providing specialist advice and undertaking legal action to protect and expand the rights of way network. As a member of the Programmes team, the Legal Casework Manager will be responsible for the successful development and delivery of the programme.

Key responsibilities

• Lead on the development and operational delivery of the Legal Casework programme, including processes for case assessment and selection.

• Develop a pipeline of legal action to protect and expand the rights of way network – liaising with external legal advisers, preparing documents for access to the Designated Legal Fund and monitoring developments.

• Be a source of expertise on rights of way law and practice, advising members of the public and volunteers on technical issues related to public rights of way.

• Provide training and support for volunteers on aspects of rights of way law and practice.

• Design and develop resources and processes to support programme implementation.

• Work with Nations and campaigns colleagues to ensure that relevant legislation and government policy and practice, at both central and local levels, are as beneficial as possible to the walking public.

• Ensure our legal casework is contributing to the delivery of our refreshed strategy by focusing legal action on priority communities.

• Be responsible for managing a legal budget in line with programme goals and objectives, to ensure best use of charitable funds

• Be responsible for evaluation and reporting, to ensure the programme meets KPIs and delivers measurable impact.

The person

Knowledge and Experience

• Expertise in rights of way law and practice, as well as relevant legislation and government policy.

• Experience of working with external legal professionals, including solicitors and consultants, and monitoring legal developments.

• Experience providing technical advice to members of the public and volunteers on specialist and issues.

• Experience drafting and proof-reading documents for submissions in legal proceedings (e.g. Statement of Case, Proof of Evidence).

Purpose of the role

The Legal Director provides strategic leadership on immigration, economic migration, asylum and nationality for ILPA, with a primary focus on legal policy, legislative analysis, member engagement and public influence.

The role is responsible for shaping ILPA’s legal positions, overseeing the quality and coherence of legal analysis across the organisation, and maintaining ILPA’s standing as the leading professional membership body in immigration and asylum law.

Key responsibilities

1. Legal strategy and leadership

In collaboration with the Trustees and Chief Executive, the Legal Director will:

a. Develop and maintain ILPA’s short-, medium- and long-term legal strategy in line with ILPA’s charitable objectives.

b. Identify emerging legal, policy and practice issues affecting immigration, asylum and nationality law.

c. Engage with ILPA members to understand frontline impacts and systemic concerns.

d. Advise the Trustees and Chief Executive on legal policy priorities, organisational positioning and risk.

e. Translate member insight into clear legal and policy positions.

f. Lead ILPA’s legal responses to legislative proposals, consultations and policy initiatives.

g. Ensure ILPA’s legal work remains focused, authoritative and aligned with ILPA’s strategic plan.

2.       Policy, parliamentary and public influence

a. Lead ILPA’s engagement on legal and policy matters with government departments, Parliament and public bodies.

b. Draft and oversee consultation responses, parliamentary briefings and policy submissions.

c. Represent ILPA at meetings with Ministers, officials, parliamentarians and sector partners.

d. Provide expert evidence to parliamentary inquiries and committees.

e. Support the Chief Executive in high-level advocacy and external relations where appropriate.

The Legal Director is a newly created senior leadership role and will lead and shape Release’s legal services, setting the strategic direction and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, client‑centred representation. We’re recruiting a Training Lead (Employment Law)

Salary range: £38,000 - £40,000 FTE (per year, depending on accreditation and experience)

Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week) or part-time, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate

The Work Rights Centre is looking for a motivated employment law expert to  lead  our growing training programme, and support the wider development of the charity.

Over the last few years our legal teams have delivered a number of successful training and capacity building programmes to other advice charities and local authorities - from short teaser sessions, to in-depth programmes that walked attendees through the core pillars of employment law over the course of several weeks.

Coram is the UK’s oldest children’s charity founded by Thomas Coram in London helping vulnerable children and young people since 1739. One of the nine members of the Coram group, Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) is the UK’s specialist centre for children’s rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy. Our Legal Practice Unit provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract. About the role

This role will provide leadership and management for CCLC particularly focused on the Legal Practice Unit’s legal aid billing operations. Through systematic and efficient management, the post-holder will play a pivotal role in CCLC’s financial and operational sustainability. The role will be accountable for maximising the unit’s legal aid billing in controlled work, certificated work and inter partes costs and will hold responsibility for the unit’s billing systems. It will also be responsible for private fees billing. The post-holder will oversee the smooth running of legal aid billing including through line management of the billing team. The post-holder will work very closely with legal, operations and administrative staff. The role will act as a key point of contact for a range of internal and external stakeholders including Coram’s central finance team who will support the role with grant fund management and overall accounting functions for CCLC. The post-holder will support the Managing Director of Legal Practice and Children’s Rights and department heads in the successful maintenance of our relationship with the Legal Aid Agency. Where appropriate they will be deputising for the Managing Director on legal aid and financial matters.

The role would suit a highly organised and efficient legal aid lawyer, or a finance or billing professional with solid experience of legal practice and a deep understanding of the challenges of legal aid. Whilst candidates with direct experience of legal billing (and more specifically civil legal aid billing) are welcomed, we recognise that this is a highly specialised and niche field. As such, this role could suit a highly experienced solicitor who appreciates the important role developing sustainable businesses plays in ensuring access to justice and who therefore wishes to move into practice and financial management. They will need an aptitude for processing large amounts of data, developing and managing spreadsheets and improving organisational systems. However, they will be well supported through training, an enthusiastic and competent junior billing team, the central finance team and an outsourced legal cashiering company, as well as a friendly and collaborative management team including the Managing Director and the Heads of Education Law, Community Care Law and Immigration and Asylum Law.

This is a largely office-based role in order to fully provide support to the billing team. However, some remote / hybrid working may be possible depending the experience of the candidate after the initial settling in period and there will be flexibility over how the three days will be spread across the week (within working hours). The team are mostly based in the London office and with one billing team member in Colchester so the post holder may require some occasional travel.

We are looking to recruit an experienced, innovative legal manager for our international Environment and Sustainable Development Programme. The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer with deep enthusiasm and in-depth knowledge of how our partners could use the law to achieve environmental justice. Working as part of a small but dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to learn at close hand what it means to work for an international NGO focusing on how the law can be used to fight corruption and achieve environmental and economic justice. You will develop projects with a range of partners, including international agencies, NGOs, CSOs and governments. You will collaborate with a range of volunteer lawyers (via law firms and barristers chambers) who are leading experts in their field. Key Responsibilities:

2. Develop an understanding of the most effective environmental policy tools and legal interventions to deliver the programme’s objectives, through engagement with volunteer lawyers, ILP partners, ILP’s ESD Advisory Committee, staff, Board and others;

4. Support the Programme Director in ensuring effective project delivery and evaluation of impact including:

The Role
