Job description

Title: Adult Therapists and Children & Young People (CYP) Therapists

Accountable to: Therapy Delivery Manager

Contract: Self employed

Salary: £35-£45 per session

Hours: Flexible working pattern

Working arrangement:Face to face delivery across various venues within Derbyshire and Derby City, with a small amount of remote work where appropriate

SV 2 is a leading specialist charity committed to supporting children and adults who have experienced sexual violence. Embedded in the Derbyshire and Derby City communities for over 30 years, we actively work to ensure victims/survivors of sexual violence and abuse are informed, supported, protected and empowered.

We strongly believe sexual violence simply should not exist and whilst it does, no one should deal with it alone.

If you fit these values, we would love to hear from you!

This is an exciting time to join us as we continue to grow and develop the charity with a passion for making a difference to people’s lives.

We are looking for enthusiastic, extremely organised and skilled Adult Therapists or CYP Therapists, with experience of working with the effects of sexual abuse trauma, within a fast-paced environment and providing high-quality, short-term, trauma-informed counselling support. Therapy provision is person-centred and delivered in educational settings and other venues across Derbyshire and Derby City.

Summary of the role and requirement:

  • To provide specialist counselling to adults or children and young people who have experienced sexual violence within a trauma-informed framework.
  • The Therapist will manage a complex caseload, providing safe and effective counselling to adults aged 18 years+ or CYP aged 3–17 years. Responsibilities include completing clinical assessments, identifying and responding to each client’s individual needs, maintaining accurate and timely records, and managing their own diary and administrative duties. The role also requires effective multi-agency working, with safeguarding remaining the highest priority.
  • Being able to work in partnership with internal and external teams is essential to ensure effective working across the organisation and the highest quality support provided to the client.
  • The subcontracted therapist should be willing to commit to a minimum of 4 clients per week for adults and 3 clients per week for CYP. This work will be predominantly face to face combined with a small amount of remote work where appropriate and can be delivered at any time, on any day of the week.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting clients through a short-term therapeutic model of up to 8 sessions for adults and 10 sessions for CYP.
  • Completing therapeutic assessments to identify suitability and needs of the client and where appropriate, make  onward referrals to other services.
  • Complete and collate monitoring and evaluations using organisational assessment tools and other resources.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate records in accordance with GDPR and pre-trial therapy guidelines.
  • Adhere to the charity’s safeguarding policy and procedures, actively responding appropriately to any safeguarding concerns or risks.
  • Attend a mandatory induction, bi-monthly subcontractor meetings, and training as required.
  • Take a proactive approach in liaising with internal and external teams where appropriate to ensure a coordinated and person-centred approach to support.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and promote the values and policies of the charity.
  • Adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics adopted by SV2.

About You

  • We are looking for someone who has:
  • A recognised adult or children’s counselling/psychotherapy qualification Level 4 or above (essential).
  • A minimum of two years’ post-qualification experience working therapeutically with adults or CYP in a trauma-informed setting.
  • Training or experience of Adult and Child Safeguarding Level 3 abilities.
  • Knowledge of dissociation, trauma, vicarious trauma and crisis management.
  • Current Enhanced DBS.
  • Public liability and professional indemnity insurance of at least £5 million.
  • Evidence of monthly clinical supervision in line with professional body requirements.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Evidence of practice consistent with SCoPED Framework column B competencies (desirable)
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.

 Essential:

  • Experience offering short-term counselling.
  • Experience in providing counselling to clients who have experienced trauma, abuse, or sexual violence.
  • Experience working with safeguarding concerns affecting adults, children and families and making appropriate onward referrals.
  • Experience working with complex client presentations, suicidal ideations/ actively suicidal clients and those who self-harm.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the psychological and emotional impact of sexual violence, including issues such as shame, boundaries and trust.
  • Skilled in conducting therapeutic assessments and use of assessment tools, developing a clear clinical understanding of each client’s individual needs.
  • Strong record-keeping and administrative skills, with attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive team.
  • Experience working with other professionals, agencies and families on behalf of the client where appropriate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work sensitively and empathetically.

We offer:

  • Ongoing CPD opportunities
