About Deaf Unity

Deaf Unity is a deaf-led charity working to empower deaf people and champion their rights. We support deaf individuals to move successfully from education into employment and beyond. 

We are now at an exciting stage of growth and are looking for a proactive and highly organised Services Coordinator to help develop and expand our income-generating services. This is a key role within a small, ambitious organisation where your work will have a direct and meaningful impact on the deaf community.

About the role

This is a hands-on, varied role where you will lead on the coordination, development and promotion of Deaf Unity’s services. These include communication support (CSWs), interpreting provision, translation services, and a growing jobs board.

You will manage day-to-day service delivery while also identifying opportunities to grow income and strengthen what we offer—particularly in providing communication support services to deaf school leavers, jobseekers and professionals.

This role would suit someone already working freelance within the BSL or deaf services sector who is looking for flexible, purposeful work with room to grow.

What you’ll be doing

• Managing requests for Communication Support Workers (CSWs), BSL Interpreters and Translation services
• Matching clients with appropriate professionals and ensuring a high-quality, reliable service

About you

We are looking for someone who is organised, self-motivated and confident building relationships. You will be comfortable managing your own workload and taking initiative to develop services.

You will ideally have:

• Experience managing services, projects or freelance provision
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Experience in outreach, sales or building partnerships
• Confidence working independently and managing multiple priorities
• A genuine commitment to accessibility, inclusion and deaf empowerment

Knowledge of the deaf community and communication support services (e.g. interpreting, CSWs) is highly valued.

Essential:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to promote services and meet targets
• Ability to manage administration alongside relationship-building

Desirable:

• BSL Level 2 or above
• Experience using CRM systems
• Knowledge of interpreting or communication support best practice

• Experience and a track record of supporting an ED/CEO or a leadership team on strategic initiatives, preferably in a Chief of Staff capacity.

Trauma Recovery CIC’s Administrative Assistant is central to the organisation. The person in this role supports the

who use the service and the professionals supporting them.

What could my day look like?

The Education Worker role is a frontline, fast-paced and rewarding role where no two weeks will look the same. A typical day will have different activities, possibly spread between the IntoUniversity centre, partner schools and the offices of a corporate partner.

In the morning, you might be setting off with resources to run a workshop for sixth-form students in their secondary school. In the afternoon you may be setting up the classroom ahead of running Primary Academic Support for young people in your IntoUniversity centre. On other days, you may be travelling to a corporate partner to run a business simulation workshop for 15 year-olds or leading a group of final year primary school students on a campus visit for their graduation.

As an Education Worker, you’ll always be delivering the programme as part of your centre team, which means that any delivery is always a team effort. 

We’re currently looking for a Deputy Executive Assistant to the Group Chief Executive Officer, offered on a fixed term basis of 6 months, to help us deliver our mission. This a full-time position, 35 hours per week.

The Role

What will I be doing?

You’ll be responsible for a broad range of high‑level Executive Office support activities, including:

• Preparing, coordinating and servicing senior leadership meetings, including drafting clear agendas, collating accurate papers, taking high‑quality minutes and tracking actions with a strong attention to detail.
• Providing high‑quality executive and administrative support to the CEO Office, including complex diary and inbox management, and the drafting, handling and dispatch of correspondence on behalf of the Group CEO with excellent written accuracy and judgment.
• Supporting effective planning, briefing and preparation to ensure the Group CEO is fully equipped for internal and external engagements, with well‑structured briefings and precise, timely documentation.

Projects you may work on include:

• Coordinating national and international travel programmes for the Group CEO, President and senior trustees, producing accurate itineraries and paperwork to ensure effective use of time and seamless stakeholder engagement.
• Supporting the delivery of high‑profile Institute events involving the Group CEO, Executive Team and senior stakeholders, with a strong focus on detail, logistics and written briefings.
• Undertaking short‑term project work and research for the Executive Team, analysing and summarising information clearly and producing briefings, reports or presentations as required.

You’ll work closely with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, including:

• The CEO Office Operations Manager and Executive Assistant to the Group CEO and President, working collaboratively to ensure the smooth, accurate and professional running of the Executive Office.
• Executive Directors, senior trustees and members of the Leadership Team across the Institute and its subsidiary companies, including IOP Publishing.
• Senior internal and external stakeholders, including equivalent CEO offices in partner organisations, government and learned societies, requiring clear, professional written communication and attention to detail.

Ideally, we hope you’ll apply if you bring:

Essential:

• Proven experience providing high‑level PA or Executive Assistant support in a fast‑paced, complex environment, including diary management, meeting support and high‑quality minute‑taking.
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, accurate and professional correspondence, briefings and minutes, alongside a consistently high level of attention to detail.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the judgment and discretion to handle confidential and sensitive information.
• Advanced IT skills, including confident use of Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

Nice to have:

• Experience supporting senior executives or boards within a charity, professional body, membership organisation or similarly complex environment.

How will I be working?

We operate a flexible, trust based working model that gives colleagues autonomy over how, when and where they work, while recognising the value of in person collaboration. You will be assigned a base office, with hybrid working offered as standard. This role does however involve regular visits to our head office based on business needs. 

You will engage in regular in person collaboration with your team (as operational appropriate), as well as with colleagues across the wider organisation, to ensure effective operational alignment and to support our inclusive approach to working.

As an organization we meet in person once a quarter at our Head Office in Kings Cross, London.

This Wheelchair Skills Trainer role will predominantly support the Service Delivery Managers in the effective planning and delivery of wheelchair skills training to meet the strategic objectives. You will be required to work directly with young people and their families, schools, colleagues, partner organisations and professionals, delivering accredited wheelchair skills training across South or North Wales (location dependent) or London. Full training and resources will be provided.

The person

You will be part of the Young People’s Services Team who provide a range of services and activities for young wheelchair users and their families. The postholder will take responsibility for the delivery of accredited face-to-face wheelchair skills training for young wheelchair users, as well as training for parents and other professionals involved in their development, ensuring processes and procedures relating to safety and safeguarding are followed. The role also includes liaising with schools, colleges and external organisations and ensuring volunteers are supported and empowered at services.

Key accountabilities

• Planning and delivery of wheelchair skills training and train the trainer across Wales or London.

• Liaise with Whizz Kidz Service Delivery Managers to ensure familiarity with the content and plans for each session, including information about young people’s care and medical needs, details of volunteers attending and venue information including contact names and access arrangements.

• Updating all documentation for events and participants onto the database.

• Promoting Whizz Kidz services to third party organisations in order to drive new applications/referrals.

• Ensuring feedback and monitoring data is collected at each event.

• Liaising with young people, families and schools as required.

• Attending Whizz Kidz services across the country if required in order to support the Service Delivery Managers.

• Use the risk assessment provided by Whizz Kidz to ensure confidence in briefing other staff/volunteers, continually updating each risk assessment where necessary.

• Adhere to relevant Whizz Kidz policies and procedures regarding safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality, risk management, health and safety, incident reporting and working with volunteers when facilitating events for young disabled people. Ensure that all staff and volunteers are fully briefed and working within these guidelines and policies.

• Liaise with Whizz Kidz Services Delivery Managers to ensure availability of sufficient resources and equipment for services, highlighting any discrepancies.

• Attend training days and events with Whizz Kidz staff and volunteers to continually develop relevant skills and competencies to effectively deliver Whizz Kidz’s Young People’s Services.

• Lead Volunteers throughout the day to deliver all planned activities in a safe and positive way, working in line with policies and procedures to ensure maximum participation.
