About the team

Shelter Sheffield provide housing advice and support to people across the city with a focus on emergency homelessness, intensive support for children and families, people experiencing domestic abuse and people with multiple and complex needs. We take a holistic approach to help people deal with interrelated issues that can impact their ability to keep a home and help over 5000 people a year while also working to change the underlying systems that cause the housing emergency.

About the role

You will be the first point of contact for in-person and telephone callers to the service - taking client details, providing information and working with advisers to direct enquiries to the right people.

You’ll provide administrative support and have responsibility for designing and developing office systems and processes, data input, extraction and analysis and finance administration.  Helping front line staff with case administration, assisting the Hub managers with ad-hoc projects and seeing that our office equipment is properly maintained – all are aspects of this interesting, varied and vital role.

• Assess requests for funding and manage grants using local knowledge, best practice, thematic expertise, and the experience of customers and stakeholders to improve our grant making and inform our decision making. By working closely with people and communities, you will understand what matters to them and where our funding can make the biggest difference.
• You will be responsible for supporting local people and communities in Ceredigion, and have a strong understanding of our vision, being able to adapt your approach to the wishes of the people you are working with.

Responsibilities

Some of the key areas of responsibility for this role are outlined below:

Cleaning & Room Setup

• Ensuring the buildings and grounds at HT are clean, tidy and ready to be used for our different mid-week events and for our Sunday services, liaising with our contract cleaners and carrying out cleaning duties yourself
• Setting up for events and services, moving tables / chairs etc as needed
• Litter picking externally and ensuring our grounds are well presented and well-maintained
• Keeping note of stocks of cleaning materials, and ordering more as needed
• Ensuring our stocks of clean laundry are always sufficient, sending and receiving laundry and liaising with our laundry contractor as needed

Kitchens

• Keeping our commercial kitchens clean and tidy and overseeing record keeping
• Understanding and ensuring compliance with our requirements under the Safer Food
• Better Business food safety management procedures

Terms & Conditions:

The Head of Services - Rough Sleeping is a brand-new role for the organisation and will lead on developing a new internal strategy for young people facing rough sleeping, as well as holding operational oversight of our established youth-specific street outreach function and emergency accommodation hub, both of which are unique in London. You will need to be strategic in approach and an excellent relationship builder. You will act as our lead colleague on relationships with the Greater London Authority and London Councils’ rough sleeping teams, working with them to ensure our learning and insights inform policy and ultimately open up access to emergency support for those under 25. Alongside this you will need a keen eye for operational detail, have experience of delivering homelessness services, and be passionate about piloting new solutions to prevent homelessness among young people. We are hiring a Mental Health Floating Support Coordinator to support our Luton Service which delivers support to individuals living within the community who have support needs pertaining to their mental health and wellbeing. The service works alongside statutory services, with the aim of moving people on to independent living within two years. You will empower and motivate our residents and participants to achieve their personal goals and gain greater independence, which enables them to reintegrate into the community and lead fulfilling lives. The support offered is tailored to the individual needs of the participants and residents through a recovery based model.

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, basic Microsoft experience is required
• Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, including in the criminal justice field, mental health, and/or substance misuse or a good understanding of the sector
• Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs
• Able to influence and negotiate positive outcomes with others

What we would like, but not essential:

• Appropriate qualification: NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care/Community Justice, or professional equivalent
• Experience of providing housing support and a practical assistance within a residential or outreach support role
• Experience creating co-produced support plans and providing appropriate interventions for service user and liaising with other professionals
