Interim Managing Director

Location: UK Remote (Roughly bi-weekly travel)
Contract: Full-time, 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract
Salary: £80,000 + Benefits

Prospectus is seeking an experienced and values-driven Interim Managing Director to lead a well-established national industry charity through an important period of transition.

For more than a century, the organisation has provided practical, emotional and financial support to individuals and families connected to a major UK industry. Today, it delivers a wide range of welfare, wellbeing and crisis support services, working alongside trusted partners and specialist practitioners to improve lives and strengthen communities across the UK.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will lead a committed team of employed staff and external practitioners, ensuring that beneficiaries continue to receive safe, effective and person-centred support. They will work closely with the Board to provide strategic leadership while fostering a positive, inclusive and supportive culture across the organisation.

A key focus of the role will be leading people through change. The Managing Director will build trust and engagement across the workforce, create clarity during transition, and ensure staff feel supported, empowered and confident in delivering the charity's mission.

Alongside day-to-day leadership responsibilities, the postholder will ensure the organisation maintains strong governance standards, effective safeguarding arrangements, operational resilience and financial sustainability.

About You

We are looking for an accomplished senior leader who combines strong operational capability with an empathetic and people-focused leadership style.

You will bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience within the charity, not-for-profit, membership or related sectors.
  • Experience leading organisations or teams through periods of change, transition or organisational development.
  • A strong track record of people leadership, culture building and organisational improvement.
  • Experience working closely with Boards, Trustees or governing bodies.
  • Sound financial management, governance and risk management experience.
  • The ability to inspire confidence, build relationships and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred services and positive outcomes for beneficiaries.
  • Excellent judgement, resilience and the ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery.
