About Selfless and the programme

Selfless is seeking an experienced education and curriculum development professional to undertake the end to end academic development of our Global Health Leadership Programme (GHLP), delivered in Bangladesh.

The GHLP is an immersive educational programme combining structured teaching with leadership development, site visits, community outreach, practical learning, reflection and engagement with local healthcare professionals and organisations.

The programme currently provides approximately 50 CPD points and has an established body of teaching materials and practical educational activity.

Our next objective is to develop this into a fully structured, outcomes based academic programme that provides participants with a strong foundation in global health and is academically developed to a standard suitable for consideration by a higher education institution as a Postgraduate Certificate.

This is a project based consultancy for someone with significant expertise in curriculum development, healthcare or global health education, blended and experiential learning and, ideally, the development and validation of postgraduate programmes within UK higher education.

The consultancy

The successful consultant will take our established programme and existing educational materials through a complete curriculum development process.

By the end of the commission, the programme should have a comprehensive curriculum, teaching and learning materials, assessment framework, instructor resources and supporting academic documentation ready to be presented to a higher education institution for consideration as a Postgraduate Certificate.

This is not solely a curriculum review or gap analysis exercise. The successful consultant will be responsible for identifying gaps and completing the work required to address them within the scope of the commission.

Scope of work

Working from our existing programme, materials and experience, the consultant will be expected to:

• Review and restructure the existing GHLP curriculum and educational materials.

• Define clear programme level and individual session learning outcomes appropriate to the intended academic level.

• Map all educational activities against these learning outcomes, including formal teaching, workshops, site visits, community outreach, leadership activities and experiential learning.

• Ensure that the completed curriculum provides appropriate coverage of the fundamental principles and practice of global health.

• Develop a coherent blended learning model incorporating taught content, practical and experiential learning, reflection and appropriate pre programme and post programme activity.

• Identify gaps in the existing curriculum and directly develop the additional educational content and materials required to address them.

• Refine existing teaching materials and create additional teaching materials where required.

• Develop a complete programme timetable demonstrating the relationship between teaching, experiential activity, independent learning and learning outcomes.

• Produce standardised instructor packs, including learning objectives, teaching guidance, session plans, supporting resources and appropriate methods of delivery.

• Produce comprehensive delegate learning materials and supporting resources.

• Develop an appropriate assessment strategy, including assessment methods, criteria and documentation necessary to demonstrate achievement of programme learning outcomes.

• Develop appropriate approaches to reflective learning, formative and summative assessment and programme evaluation.

• Ensure appropriate alignment between learning outcomes, teaching activities and assessment.

• Review and appropriately document the programme's existing 50 CPD point structure.

• Develop the academic programme documentation and supporting educational framework required for the programme to be presented to a higher education institution for consideration as a Postgraduate Certificate.

Required end point

At completion of the consultancy, Selfless should hold a complete and coherent educational package rather than a set of recommendations for further development.

The final output should include the curriculum, programme specification, learning outcomes, curriculum mapping, teaching structure, timetable, instructor materials, delegate materials, assessment framework and supporting academic documentation required to enable Selfless to approach a higher education institution for consideration of the programme at Postgraduate Certificate level.

Where gaps are identified during the review, the expectation is that these will be addressed by the consultant as part of the commission rather than simply identified for future work.

Formal approval or validation can only be granted by the relevant higher education institution through its own academic governance processes. However, the objective of this consultancy is that the educational and academic development work required prior to such consideration is complete.

Key deliverables

The successful applicant will be expected to propose a detailed delivery plan, but the completed commission should include:

• A finalised Global Health Leadership Programme curriculum.

• Programme and module or component level learning outcomes.

• Full curriculum and learning outcome mapping.

• A complete programme timetable incorporating teaching, site visits, outreach, experiential learning and independent learning.

• Revised and additional teaching content required to deliver the curriculum.

• Standardised instructor and faculty packs.

• Comprehensive delegate learning materials.

• An assessment strategy with appropriate assessment materials, criteria and marking or evaluation frameworks.

• A programme evaluation and quality improvement framework.

• Appropriate academic documentation describing the programme, its educational rationale, delivery, learning outcomes and assessment.

• Documentation suitable to form the academic basis of a submission or proposal to a higher education institution for consideration as a Postgraduate Certificate.

Who we are looking for

We are particularly interested in applicants with substantial experience in curriculum design and postgraduate education.

Relevant backgrounds may include medical or healthcare education, global health education, higher education curriculum development, postgraduate programme design, competency and learning outcome mapping, assessment design, blended and experiential learning, academic quality assurance and university programme validation.

Direct experience of developing programmes for validation, accreditation or recognition by a UK higher education institution would be particularly valuable.

Experience of global health, international healthcare education or education delivered in low and middle income settings would also be advantageous.

The successful applicant must be comfortable both with academic programme design and with the practical creation of educational materials. We are looking for someone who can deliver the completed educational package rather than provide recommendations for another team to implement.

Working arrangements

The consultancy can be undertaken predominantly remotely.

The consultant will work closely with the Selfless programme leadership team and relevant faculty members. Regular remote consultation and agreed project checkpoints will be required. A small number of in person meetings may also be required by mutual agreement.

Delivery will be milestone based, with defined outputs agreed at the beginning of the commission.

Contract and remuneration

This is a project based consultancy.

Contract duration and remuneration will be determined following discussion with shortlisted applicants and consideration of their proposed approach.

Payment will be linked to agreed milestones and satisfactory completion of defined deliverables.

Following an initial discussion, shortlisted applicants will be given access to our existing curriculum, teaching materials and programme documentation so that they can understand the current position and prepare an informed proposal.
