Immigration Caseworker

We are seeking a motivated Immigration Caseworker to train to IAA Level 2 and provide high quality advice to people experiencing immigration issues.

Position: Immigration Caseworker
Salary: £27,089 to £28,783 per annum, dependent on experience

About the Role

This role has been created as part of a funded project to train two Immigration Caseworkers to IAA Level 2 and expand local immigration advice provision. Immigration advice is regulated and highly complex, so you will follow a structured training programme while managing an independent caseload with support from a specialist team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Working towards an agreed IAA qualification level with a personalised training plan
• Keeping accurate training and supervision records in line with regulatory requirements
• Providing face to face and remote immigration advice to local residents
• Managing a caseload and preparing applications, letters and supporting documentation
• Liaising with statutory and non statutory bodies on behalf of clients
• Maintaining clear, compliant and confidential case records
• Supporting colleagues with immigration related queries
• Keeping up to date with immigration law, policy and best practice
• Contributing to service development, reporting and quality assurance
• Representing the service at relevant meetings and with partner agencies

About You

You do not need previous experience as an Immigration Caseworker, but you must be able to demonstrate the potential to work in a regulated advice environment.

Essential skills and experience include:

• High level of written and spoken English
• Strong writing skills for reports, letters and submissions
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail
• Experience of working with vulnerable people in a sensitive and professional way
• Confidence using IT systems for case recording and document production

Sydenham Garden is seeking a Community Activities & Volunteering Lead on a Fixed term contract to end of December 2027 to join our team of 14 staff and approximately 70 volunteers in delivering adult mental health and dementia services in our beautiful garden settings in south-east London. 

Position: Community Activities & Volunteering Lead

Sydenham Garden, based in Lewisham in South-East London, is a unique wellbeing centre utilising its gardens, nature reserve and activity rooms to help people living with and recovering from mental and physical ill-health. About the Organisation

The Grenfell 'Education Hub' opened last year to serve those most affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The hub provides a safe, restorative and relational education support to children and young people, their families and local schools.

A consultation process in 2023 and 2024 about the needs of the community and the bereaved and survivors led to proposals for an educational ‘hub’.  This comprises a wide range of professionals including four specialist teachers, an Educational Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Careers Specialist, and a Family Support Practitioner. About Woman’s Trust

The charity was established in 1996 to meet the gap in specialist mental health services. Woman’s Trust is led by and for women and aims to ensure that women affected by domestic abuse can live a life free from further harm and abuse. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, empowering survivors on their journey to recovery from the trauma. Alongside delivering our existing 1-1 counselling, self-development workshops and therapeutic support groups for women who have experienced domestic abuse, we are focused on developing our innovative mental health services for young women and girls, delivering new peer-led support groups and providing therapeutic groups to children and their mothers. We are also committed to developing further awareness-raising workshops and training for professionals, building on our research and policy to improve systems nationally.

Background

The lack of recognition of domestic abuse as a mental health issue within the NHS leads to delayed and inadequate support for survivors. This gap in understanding and response often result in survivors only being able to access and receive appropriate care when their mental health deteriorates to the point of requiring secondary mental health services (Women’s Aid 2021).  Meta analysis suggests that CBT, one of the NHS’s most prescribed approaches for mental ill-health, is not the best approach for domestic abuse survivors as it does not recognise and take into account the external factors and dynamics of abuse, specifically power and control, the role of the perpetrator and the resulting trauma for the survivor.

In March 2025, WT published its first major report, ‘Living Without Hope’ which consolidates existing and increasing academic, government and sector research demonstrating the significant impact of domestic abuse on women’s mental health. Outlining the current agency responses at national, regional and local levels and the gaps in provision; the report also makes recommendations for change and improvement across the VAWG and health sectors.

Building on the research highlighted in our ‘Living Without Hope’ report, WT has secured funding to work with key stakeholders in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to examine the links between domestic abuse and mental health, the specific experiences of Arab and Moroccan women and their access to safe, appropriate services that meet their needs.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced arts-based therapeutic facilitator to deliver creative workshops for mothers who have experienced domestic abuse and their children aged 5-12.

The workshops use creative and expressive activities to support emotional regulation, strengthen mother-child relationships, and aid recovery from trauma. Sessions are delivered in a group setting and designed to be flexible, inclusive, and responsive to participants’ needs.

This is a sessional role, ideal for practitioners seeking flexible work alongside other clinical, therapeutic, or creative practice.

The Role

Reporting to the Associate Director of Legal and Governance, the Legal and Governance Business Partner will lead on the provision of support to the charity’s staff and volunteers on all legal and governance matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Advising on legal issues relating to the charity’s activities, including reviewing a variety of contracts, such as fundraising contracts and contracts for goods and services.
• Advising on the legal aspects of tendering for commissioned services from NHS bodies and local authorities, including advising on procurement matters and NHS Model contracts.
• Advising on partnerships with other organisations to achieve the objects of the charity.
• Advising the CEO, Executive Directors and Trustees on governance matters, including charity law and company law; drafting policies, terms of reference and other governance documents, and correspondence with regulators.
• Maintaining the charity’s risk register and arranging appropriate insurance cover.

About You

You will have:

• A valid practising certificate as a solicitor/barrister and 4 years’ minimum post qualification experience, preferably including relevant experience advising not for profit organisations.
• A demonstrable interest in the charity sector.
• Good communication skills, and an ability to translate complex legal matters into easily understood legal advice.
• Excellent prioritisation skills.

We collect unwanted tools from across the UK, refurbish them into professional trade kits, and ship approximately 25 containers - over 200 tonnes of equipment - annually to support around 500 skills training centres, churches and charities in seven countries.

We are looking to appoint a Family Support Worker, on a full time basis (35 hours per week), to deliver a high-quality family support service as part of our London & South East Care Team.

Reporting to the Family Support Manager of the London & South East Care Team and working in partnership with health, education and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for providing needs-led emotional, social and practical support to families where a child/young person has a life threatening or terminal illness.

Having worked in a demanding and emotional environment you have a genuine interest in building supportive relationships and helping people; and having provided bereavement support to families, you understand processes of grief, loss and change - and how best to help others deal with its impact.

This will include instigating Early Help assessments, preparing for and attending Child in Need and Child Protection meetings.

You will have an understanding of recruiting, carefully selecting and managing volunteers to ensure they feel supported and fully trained to offer effective support to families in order to get the best outcomes for the family and in particular the children. 

You will be experienced in working with families in their own home - skilled in recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns, be apt in completing strengths-based assessments and conversations and have a deep understanding of the issues families can face and the link with childhood development and difficulties they may experience later in life.
