About the Department/Role

The Church of England is continually striving to improve its safeguarding practices. The 2020 report by IICSA on the Church highlighted failures in respect of child sexual abuse and, more broadly, the challenges facing the Church to get safeguarding right.

The Church's aspiration is that safeguarding is not experienced and approached as a matter of administrative compliance. Rather, it should be what the Church is - something that flows from its core beliefs and values, part of its DNA.

The Church has made important and positive strides over recent years. There is, however, still much to be done to keep children and vulnerable adults safe, and to promote their well-being. The Church is a complex collection of different bodies. Most of the safeguarding work is carried out locally within the 42 dioceses and cathedrals in England. This work is supported centrally by a National Safeguarding Team (NST).

The NST itself comprises three departments: Casework, Programmes and Administration, and Learning and Development, which provides high-quality safeguarding learning, policy, and guidance to those working, paid or unpaid, licensed or lay, in the Church of England. This role will be pivotal to delivering learning and development.

What you'll be doing

In this vital role, you'll join a dynamic team committed to nurturing high-quality safeguarding practice throughout the Church. You'll work alongside our two National Safeguarding Learning and Development Managers, delivering engaging in-person and online training for senior leaders, diocesan staff, and safeguarding officers.

Main responsibilities

• Deliver national learning events, including SLSP, with a focus on systemic theory and leadership development.
• Facilitate sensitive conversations around safeguarding culture, ensuring a safe and reflective learning environment.
• Evaluate the impact of training, contribute to continuous learning improvements, and support new pathway development.
• Organise and lead professional development programmes for Safeguarding Officers and Trainers.

Key role requirements

• This is a homeworking role; however, this position requires the post holder to frequently travel across England, visiting Dioceses and Cathedrals, including overnight stays and occasional weekend commitments.
• A basic DBS check will be required as part of our pre-employment checks.

Role Overview 

We are seeking a Head of Policy and Community Engagement to lead our policy advocacy and community engagement initiatives. This role is crucial in helping our members develop a collective voice, influence policy at both local and national levels, and drive long-lasting, systemic change. The successful candidate will work closely with London-based members and grassroots organisations, convening and facilitating opportunities to develop a unified and impactful voice and advocate for systemic change on key issues such as climate justice and resilience, employment inequality and economic inclusion, particularly in the context of public sector investment and the green economy. They will have a passion for human rights, equality and social justice, and strong policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement experience. 

Key Responsibilities 

Policy Advocacy & Engagement 

• Support Member Voice: Facilitate opportunities for our members (and their networks) to develop a unified and impactful voice on key policy issues.

• Drive structural change: Advocate for systemic, rather than piecemeal, policy reform on issues relating to climate action, law and economic opportunity.

• Policy research & analysis: synthesize research data, commission research, and stay informed on the priorities of national government, Greater London Authority and local borough councils, as well as those of funders, to provide members with strategic analysis and support in developing and influencing policy. 

• Focus on intersectionality: Promote the adoption of an intersectional, pan-equality, and human rights-based framework in policy areas such as the equality and human rights legal framework, climate justice and social investment. 

Community & Network Development 

• Develop and strengthen membership model: Lead efforts to develop and adapt our membership and engagement model, ensuring it remains responsive to the evolving needs of our London network and the wider movement.

• Equip grassroots groups: Work closely with grassroots organisations to build their capacity and influence on key issues, supporting them to engage directly with policymakers and participate meaningfully in policy debates.

• Promote collaboration and capacity building: Promote collaboration among members, encouraging the sharing of best practice, strengthening their collective voice, and enhancing their effectiveness in advocating for their communities. 

Strategic Initiatives & emerging trends 

• Horizon scanning and trend analysis: Monitor emerging trends in the climate, social justice, and community development sectors, ensuring strategies are adapted to address these developments.

• Network expansion: Identify opportunities to grow our network and extend our reach, ensuring more grassroots organisations are empowered to engage with policy agendas and drive systemic change. 

What skills and experiences we’re looking for: 

• Strong policy expertise: demonstrable experience of analysing evidence from a range of sources (lived experience, think tank and academic reports,) and working collaboratively with communities to identify the root causes of inequality and create policy solutions. Ideally in one or more of the areas of climate justice, economic opportunity, and social inclusion. 

• Community Engagement: Experience of working with grassroots organisations and local communities, with a focus on building capacity and amplifying their voices at local borough, London and UK government levels. 

• Advocacy Skills:

• Strong understanding and demonstrable experience of public policy change processes at the intersection of UK and London government agendas

• Proven ability to develop, lead, implement and monitor influencing strategies that drive systemic change 

• Strategic Thinking: Ability to think creatively and strategically about developing engagement models and responding to emerging trends in social and environmental justice movements. 

• Commitment: commitment to and a sound understanding of how to apply equality, intersectionality and human rights principles to public policy development, and the credibility to build trust with communities. 

• Network Building: Demonstrable experience in growing and supporting membership networks or coalitions, ideally in the voluntary or charity sector.

This is an exceptional opportunity to be at the heart of a truly exciting heritage restoration project to restore, renew and open up to new audiences, a nationally-important building in a thriving but economically and socially challenged central London neighbourhood.

St Peter’s Walworth is Sir John Soane’s first London church and one of only four Grade 1-listed buildings in Southwark. We have secured a major grant of £438,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) for Development Phase funding for the “Building Beyond: Soane Reimagined” project with a view to work towards a Delivery phase grant of £3.1m. The Development Phase is now underway, with the first major procurements completed, and is set to run for 18 months, at which point a Delivery Round application will be submitted to activate a Delivery Phase. Design development needs to be completed to RIBA Stage 3, planning, Faculty and consents need to be in place and all partnership funding raised or pledged. Our fundraising target is challenging – we will need to secure more than £1m with a focus on trusts and foundations, alongside strategic partnerships. We have already engaged a consultant to develop our Fundraising Strategy and Case for Support, and that consultant will be able to work alongside the Fundraising Manager to get them off to a strong start.

The Church has excellent local networks, an active steering group including external professional expertise, a progressive and outward-facing Rector with a strong social media following, and a strong relationship with potential donors and partners with funds already secured from Southwark Council. Purpose Of Role

This is a newly created collaborative and integral role within the Joint Finance Team across the Dioceses of Winchester and Portsmouth. The Dioceses of Winchester and Portsmouth (DBF) act as the custodian trustee for our parishes (PCC) across both dioceses and manage funds in excess of £30m across c.620 funds.

This role will be responsible for seeking ways to identify the purposes of these funds and creating a bespoke database to assist with the day-to-day oversight.  Reporting to the Heads of Finance, the role will support the Finance Officer and Finance Assistant with the delivery of treasury functions to our parishes, through enabling prompt identification of the relevant information to enable investment transactions to take place. 

Job Summary

· Create a master list of the funds and related account details with the relevant investors. 

· Review the electronic and paper archive information for details of restrictions around funds and confirm the accuracy and completeness of the information.

· Identify funds where restrictions may no longer be relevant and provide guidance on how these may be wound up.

· Identify small / low value balances where Charity Commission rules may allow alternative action to be taken with the fund.

· Identify endowments where permission could be sought to spend the capital, if income flows are insufficient for requirements. 

· Identify any small trusts with similar purposes where there may be opportunity to combine trusts to alleviate some of the administrative burden. 

· Produce an action plan based on the findings of the above and work with the Heads of Finance to implement the plan. 

· Review the PCC annual accounts for accurate reporting of their funds, based on the details of restrictions around the funds. 

·  To provide other assistance as may occasionally be required by senior members of the Joint Finance Team.  

Key role requirements

This is an office-based 12-month fixed-term part-time role of 21 hours per week, with the expectation to work from the office 2 days per week.

You will need to be/have:

· An understanding of charity finance, different fund types and Charity Commission guidance in relation to these is essential. 

· A background in finance or bookkeeping is desirable. 

· An ability to understand and interpret legal or trust documentation is desirable. 

· Experience of Xledger accounting systems would be advantageous but not essential; experience of working with Microsoft Suite applications and financial accounting systems is essential.  

· Knowledge and experience of working in a large and complex organisation is desirable

At Blood Cancer UK, we’re support and campaign for everyone affected by blood cancer. Our digital support services help people feel informed, connected, and supported, no matter where they live in the UK. 

As Digital Support Services Officer, you’ll help ensure that people affected by blood cancer can access reliable information and peer support through a range of digital platforms. You’ll lead the day-to-day running of our online community forum, support and coordinate volunteers, and work across teams to help develop and improve our support offer. You’ll use data and insights to enable us to reach more people and provide the best possible support.

You’ll be confident in digital environments and committed to making support accessible and inclusive. You will have experience in online communities, peer support or other digital support services and be comfortable engaging with people who may be going through challenging times. You’re also a team player who’s effective in  working across departments and supporting volunteers. 

Expected travel for this role is: 1-2 times per month and attending team away days plus two organisational away days a year.

You will engage with our existing members to ensure they recieve the best possible support from us. Additionally, you will engage with sectors of our community who are unaware of the benefits of being members.

Responsibilities:

These include

1. To actively seek a thorough understanding of the membership base and the issues affecting them, creating member profiles and advising and briefing stakeholders accordingly.
2. To develop a compelling offer by profile / career stage so as to maintain and improve member retention and engagement levels, and to maximise new member acquisition.
3. To maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of services and activities and ensure these are being packaged and communicated in the most effective way.
4. To oversee the implementation of regular market research, including competitor analysis, to identify members/stakeholder needs, to support the rationale for the development of member products and services, and to liaise with and advise other stakeholders as appropriate.
5. To develop member communications in particular around membership renewals and the on-boarding of new members, and to ensure a high-quality member experience.
6. To ensure that membership communications at all touch points within the membership journey or as part of a non-member relationship, remain relevant and up to date.
7. To oversee the new member and renewal process, which is managed by our external partner, and troubleshoot and resolve issues that they cannot

Personal Specification: 

Essential skills, knowledge and qualities: 

1. Experience of working in a customer, member or client facing role
2. Experience of developing and maintaining strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders
3. Experience of using a CRM management system, preferably Salesforce
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to positively communicate with a wide range of people in a professional setting, with demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in challenging situations
5. Excellent planning, coordination, organisational and time management skills
6. The ability to analyse data and produce reports
7. The ability to take a proactive approach to independent working, managing your own workstreams effectively, and the confidence to take responsibility for tasks and decisions

Desirable skills, experience, and qualities:

• Interest and/or understanding of the immigration law sector in the UK
• Experience of implementing change and working with others to create new ways of working

We are currently recruiting a Programme Coordinator to lead and coordinate a network of Community Ambassadors, embedded within grassroots organisations. You will support them to champion health improvements, build trust between communities and service providers, and co-design culturally appropriate, inclusive health and wellbeing activities. Priority areas include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mental health & isolation, menopause, and the wider determinants of health.

We are looking for someone who is:

· Experienced in engaging with diverse communities and facilitating co-production

· Confident in supporting, mentoring, and coordinating people and activities

· Skilled in building sustainable partnerships with statutory and voluntary sector partners

· Organised, with strong monitoring, evaluation, and reporting skills

· Able to balance strategic capacity-building with hands-on delivery

The Central Services team is responsible for managing NCVO's headquarters in Society Building. The team plays a pivotal role in generating income for NCVO through leasing out the conference suite, renting out desks and office space, as well as managing the building overall to ensure our facilities are running smoothly.

The conference suite is managed within NCVO’s Central Services team. It comprises 19 rooms of varying sizes at NCVO’s offices in London. 

About the role

In this role, the post holder will coordinate events in our conference suite, delivering outstanding service to both internal and external clients. You will ensure everything runs smoothly on the day, proactively solving problems and creating a welcoming, professional experience that exceeds expectations. By building strong relationships and maintaining high standards, you will play a key part in supporting NCVO’s events and growing our community of returning clients. Weekend duty management will occasionally be required.
