Wardington House Care Home is seeking an experienced and thoughtful General Manager to take responsibility for leading and running this highly regarded, family-owned nursing home on the outskirts of Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Founded in 1965, Wardington House provides nursing care for 45 residents and has a longstanding specialism in caring for people with dementia without the routine use of tranquillising medication. Its approach is centred on freedom of choice, dignity and individuality, creating a relaxed and homely environment in which residents are supported to live each day in the way they choose.

After more than 35 years leading Wardington House, Managing Partner George Tuthill is stepping back from its day-to-day management and moving into a governance role. The new General Manager will therefore take on responsibility for the overall operational and business management of the Home, working with the owners and colleagues to build on its established ethos, strengths and reputation.

This is a broad senior leadership role encompassing people and culture, regulation and compliance, finance, HR, quality and risk, facilities, catering, housekeeping, marketing and the overall experience of residents and their families.

The General Manager will work closely with the Head of Nursing, who leads the nursing function, and will be supported by an experienced wider management team.

Wardington House has around 100 employees caring for 45 residents. Staff stay for an average of more than ten years, the Home uses no agency staff, and it has its own training centre. The successful candidate will inherit a settled and capable workforce and will be expected to provide visible, supportive leadership while continuing to develop the organisation.

We are looking for someone with senior management experience, preferably within a care home, nursing home, healthcare or another highly regulated environment. Candidates will need a good working knowledge of CQC requirements and adult social care regulation and sufficient knowledge, experience and competence to meet the requirements for CQC Registered Manager status.
