POST OUTLINE
This is an impactful role working in a supportive and collaborative environment. The Volunteer Manager is responsible for implementing a sustainable volunteer strategy, onboarding journey and programme across the charity. This varied role oversees the promotion of volunteering, internal and external relationship building, all stages of volunteer recruitment, HR checks and onboarding and the coordination of an effective volunteer mandatory training programme. This role is responsible for organising recognition programmes, guiding departments on how to manage and retain volunteers, maximising the use of volunteer resources and ensuring volunteers have a rewarding experience whilst also positively contributing to the organisation objectives to provide vital services to the families of disabled and neurodivergent children. This role is also responsible for the line management of the Volunteer Administrator. We deliver essential mental health support in Hertfordshire, providing a diverse range of services from our Wellbeing Centres and other locations across the county. We help individuals experiencing mental ill health to make choices, find their solutions, build resilience and manage their wellbeing. About the role
As HR/People Officer, you will provide high-quality, accurate support across the full employee/volunteer lifecycle, while also contributing to employee and volunteering relations, and continuous improvement of our People & Culture services. You will be a role model for our values and a key contributor to a positive team culture
As HR/People Officer you will be part of a team who support a headcount of approximately 250 employees, 200 volunteers and 150 self-employed individuals across Hertfordshire. Purpose of the role
Events at ZSL London Zoo are a key way for us to engage audiences, share our conservation mission, and support wider organisational goals. As Events Team Lead, you will play a vital role in the successful delivery of our seasonal events programme, providing day-to-day operational leadership and ensuring events run safely, smoothly, and to a consistently high standard.
Working closely with the Events Manager and wider teams, you will provide essential logistical and project support across a large and complex operation. You will take responsibility for the real-time delivery of events on site, using your leadership skills to problem solve, make decisions, and respond effectively to challenges as they arise. As a lead operational role within the Events team, you will help coordinate teams, maintain high standards, and create memorable experiences for our visitors.
This role is offered as a fixed-term contract until 1st September 2027, working 37.5 hours per week. As our zoos are open seven days a week, your schedule will follow a rota, which includes weekends and bank holidays. We aim to balance business needs with personal flexibility, so you’ll have advance notice of your shifts to help plan your time.

About the Role

You will have experience in facilities management, premises management or a similar operational role, with a strong understanding of health and safety, compliance, contractor coordination and service delivery. You will bring a practical, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage competing priorities calmly and effectively.
You will be confident working with landlords, contractors, suppliers and internal teams, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and standards are maintained across our sites.
