About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

Is an exciting new edition to the TUR team, created to capitalise on the fact that the number of businesses in our catchment area is 45000+, but we’re not trying to talk to all of them, just target a few – ideally by gaining referrals and recommendations. So the job is to proactively find those local businesses happy to talk to us, understand what they might be looking for by partnering with a charity, share our brilliant story along with the business case (which is strong) for them to get involved with us in some way. We have made an excellent start, we already have a small number of great corporate partners, and this job is about taking it all on to the next level. As you would expect the role is about creating contacts, networking, maximising the face-to-face time with prospective partners and where possible gaining referrals. And, ultimately this is all because, the bigger our portfolio of corporate partners all feeling great about their involvement with us, the more able we are to raise the funds we need to keep up with an ever-increasing demand for our services.

About You

You live within - or know well, West/Central London, you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the product or service you’re talking about. You have a CV that demonstrates solid experience in a comparable role in a ‘business-to-business’ environment, a role - the success of which, is dependent on the levels of energy and proactivity you provide. This could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. However, if you have a solid B2B background and want to explore a change of direction you are also very welcome to apply. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ your story through your presentation skills. You also need great listening skills so you can build a picture of what each new corporate partner is looking to achieve by signing up to our cause. You have used Microsoft suite products before – including PowerPoint. A driving licence and use of a car is desirable as the role requires regular client visits, some of whom may not be accessible by public transport.

Location: Home based, or office based at Society Building, 8 All Saints Street, London N1, in line with NCVO’s flexible working policy or home working policy. This role will require regular travel throughout England.

As Trusts and Foundations Manager, you will be responsible for generating income from Trusts, Foundations and Statutory funders for the charity's services working with our established teams to develop projects and generate funding. An exciting opportunity to join a small team working to provide primary health and mental health services to people seeking safety in the UK. The postholder will have the opportunity to work with our medical teams to deliver psychoeducation sessions to people living in asylum accommodation across the UK and be the key connecter between the project team and the service users.

The successful candidate will have experience working with people in the asylum system and an understanding of mental health needs for people going through the asylum system. We are looking for people with fluency in at least one of the key languages: Farsi, Arabic, Kurdish Sorani, Kurdish Badani, Amharic, Tigrinya, Pashto, Daari.

Locations will be flexible and contingent on needs so the postholder will need to be open to travelling to different places across the UK to deliver services.

Job Purpose:

Note this is a joint Doctors of the World UK (DOTW) and MSF project where DOTW is the clinical operational partner and as such the successful candidate will also follow DOTW clinical and safeguarding protocol.

To Support the communication and interaction between target population (migrants and refugees) and care providers (MSF; Partners and NHS), through addressing consequences of language barriers, sociocultural differences, and discrimination.

To support in the carrying out of key activities including facilitation and support for facilitation of psychoeducation sessions to service users. There may also be some work to support the running of the mobile clinic including translation support and casework.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• At least a secondary level of education is required.
• Degree in social sciences, social communication or teaching is desirable.
• Professional course and/or training in interpretation or intercultural mediation is an asset.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a similar position, preferably in medical settings with MSF or other NGOs.
• Previous experience in PFA (psychological first aid) or mental health settings is desirable.
• Previous experience in migration/refugees’ contexts is essential.
• Fluent in Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Kurdish, Pashto, Persian or Tigrinya is an advantage

In 2021, we launched the MMM model of psychological entrapment and suicidal crises (PESC-M), which now underpins everything we do. About you and the role

The purpose of this role is to lead on our finance strategy, and ensure all of our systems, reporting and processes are helping to drive forward the charity and deliver on our objectives at scale. Key responsibilities:

• Developing a comprehensive financial strategy that supports the delivery of the charity’s objectives and activities

• Reviewing suitability of our current systems: Quickbooks for accountancy, Beacon CRM, PLEO for expenses management, Survey Monkey for data collection etc.

Housing Plus is a small established organisation based in North West London providing supported accommodation for young people aged 16-18 in and leaving care. We have a small, dynamic and diverse staff team who provide support to our young people across three houses where they live while they are supported to develop the skills they need to leave care and live more independently.

We are looking for a PA/ Office Manager-team administrator who is highly motivated to support the organisation. It is a varied role and no two days will be the same!  Additionally the role involves supporting the CRS/charity work in Brent Schools Football, which is something Housing Plus has supported for many years.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, and working with 2 Employability Leads and 3 Volunteer Managers, in this role you will lead on the volunteer strategy and develop a volunteer recruitment and retention plan.

You will design and deliver a safeguarding policy training plan for all staff, as Safeguarding Lead.

You will create a series of employability programmes based on our flagship FareChance model, supporting NEET people.  And you will build and work with our volunteer, employability and warehouse teams to ensure they have the skills, support and training needed to manage the volunteeer workforce and deliver the employability programmes across the charity.

You will line manage 3 volunteer managers, based in St Judes and Bedminster in Bristol and in Sisna Park in Plymouth, as well as 2 employability leads based in Bedminster and inner city Bristol, and any future employability staff based din Plymouth.

Role overview:

This is a hybrid role on a self-employed basis. Travel is required to complete assessment visits to the care units applying to the scheme, please refer to the Flexibility and Expectation section in regard to frequency of travel. 

As a Lead Assessor, you'll play a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of our AP scheme. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct comprehensive assessment visits to units undergoing evaluation within the scheme. Working hand in hand with service user perspective assessors, you'll monitor all Headway AP core domains during onsite visits.

Key responsibilities:

• Review relevant documentation ahead of onsite visits.
• Collaborate with service user perspective assessors during visits, focusing on core domain monitoring.
• Facilitate post-visit debriefing meetings with assessors to ensure thorough discussion and alignment.
• Maintain open communication channels with the AP Manager to address any assessment-related queries or challenges.
• Prepare detailed assessment reports in collaboration with assessors, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
• Deliver finalised reports to the AP Manager and communicate outcomes to units undergoing assessment.

Flexibility and expectations:

This role offers flexibility, with the expectation of completing a minimum of 4 assessments within a year. This allows you to balance your professional commitments while making a meaningful impact within our AP scheme.

Hourly rate and expenses:

The hourly rate for this role is £20.00. This rate includes time spent on administrative tasks before and after visits, the duration of the visit itself, and travel time. Additionally, travel expenses will be reimbursed.

To provide an example, the estimated time commitment for conducting an accreditation is as follows:

Preparation: 2 hours

Visit: 7 hours

Debrief meeting: 1 hour

Report writing: 8 hours (Please note assessment will need to be completed within 6 weeks from the date of the visit.) 

Travel: We aim to allocate Lead Assessors to units close to their location to minimise travel time, the hourly rate will be reflecting the time travel invoiced . Mileage is reimbursed at £0.40 per mile.

Candidate profile:

• Hold a professional qualification (e.g., OT, SaLT, Nursing, Physio) with demonstrated experience in ABI.
• Exhibit unwavering objectivity and impartiality during assessments.
• Uphold strict confidentiality standards in handling sensitive information.
• Possess a solid understanding of key legislation and frameworks pertinent to ABI care provision.
• Able to review and analyse evidence thoroughly.
• Skilled in engaging with staff, service users, and families.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel independently to assessment visits.

Your role

This is a very special role to provide holistic health and wellbeing of those who visit our open drop-in at the Vineyard Community Centre in Richmond. To us, they are our guests, not 'clients', 'patients' or users'.

This will include personal health screening, and holistic health support; also to provide health education, and liaison with outside agencies and local surgery. Many of our guests have multiple and complex needs involving, mental health, drug/alcohol dependency and homelessness.

If successful you will be based at “The ARC Youth Club”, an estate based youth led centre with integrated music studio, kitchen, games and "chill-out" space. The ARC engages approximately 250 young people per year and plays a vital role in their welfare and development outside of school. In holidays we offer a full program of activities and free meals for young people who may otherwise miss out.

You will deliver a range of activities e.g. cooking, arts & crafts, sports, trips, music, events etc. You will also offer support and guidance for local young people and enable them to develop life long skills while designing and running their own projects, forums etc.

Duties Include:

Promoting and delivering activities for young people aged 9-19 yrs  (up to 25 for young people with SEND)

Engaging with a range of young people from diverse backgrounds and with multiple needs

Ensuring safeguarding standards are maintained and other policies and procedures are upheld

Working in partnership with other organisations to meet local needs

Acting as an effective part of youth team and wider SHAK team

Admin and reporting duties as required

Skills & Experience

• Minimum Level 3 youth work qualification or equivalent and significant, relevant experience of youth service delivery.
• Experience of engaging girls in youth programmes successfully
• Knowledge of youth policies, safeguarding procedures and legislation
