Job description

The Bishop of Sheffield is seeking to appoint a new Senior Personal Assistant. This is a high-profile and pivotal appointment, providing an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Bishop at the heart of the Diocese of Sheffield. We are looking for a dynamic, highly organised and proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage competing priorities and work confidently with initiative and discretion. The role is predominantly office-based, with flexibility to work remotely at times, and is based in a friendly and busy office in a pleasant and beautiful environment. It requires someone who can work effectively and independently while being a collaborative and valued member of the wider Bishop's team.

This is a significant and high-profile appointment, and we are looking for someone who will become a trusted member of a dedicated team based at Bishopscroft. The role is exceptionally varied, busy and demanding and immensely rewarding, providing support across every aspect of the Bishop's ministry - from diocesan leadership and parish life to national Church responsibilities, civic engagements and his work in the House of Lords.

The successful candidate will be someone who thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. You will be highly organised, able to exercise sound judgement and manage complex competing priorities with good humour and grace. You will need to be an excellent communicator, comfortable dealing with people from all walks of life, and able to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.

Although much of the role is practical and administrative, its purpose is much broader. By ensuring that the Bishop's office runs smoothly and efficiently, you will play an important part in supporting his ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Sheffield to flourish and grow.

1. PROVIDING EFFICIENT PA SUPPORT TO THE BISHOP OF SHEFFIELD
* Advanced planning and management of the Bishop's diary
* Organising all appointments and providing practical briefings about the arrangements made for all visits and meetings
* Preparing the Bishop's papers for all meetings and maintaining an efficient system for tracking papers
* Planning and organising the Bishop's travel arrangements in the UK and abroad
* Dealing promptly with all incoming correspondence and drafting replies
* Receiving and dealing with all emails in the PA's inbox and that of the Bishop
* Opening and allocating incoming post and dealing with letters where appropriate
* Handling a wide range of telephone enquiries with confidence, diplomacy, and tact - answering questions directly or passing them on to the Bishop or Chaplain or other appropriate source of information

2. GENERAL OVERSIGHT AND RUNNING OF THE BISHOP'S OFFICE
* Welcoming all visitors and arranging catering as necessary
* Ensuring that the office is kept tidy and all necessary equipment is purchased and maintained
* Daily filing and overseeing the management of all paper and computerised filing systems
* Organising the archiving of papers as appropriate
* Ensuring that the office database is kept up to date
* To be present at some meetings and at the Bishop's direction to take notes
* Delegation of work to the Administrative Assistant

3. FINANCE
* Managing a budget in excess of £100K and dealing with all day to day financial matters including the bishop's expenses
* Managing the day to day running of all bank accounts held by the bishop in his corporate capacity
* Transferring money, making payments and keeping records as required
* Administering the Bishop's Official Expenses account
* Administering the Bishop's Discretionary account
* Applying for grants from various funds, including the Lady Hastings Charity, by preparing applications, organising and recording all monies received and providing reports to the charities on how the monies was used
* With the advice of the Bishop and his Senior Staff, allocating holiday grants and making appropriate payments

4. MANAGEMENT OF BISHOPSCROFT
* Payment of all household bills including regular review of utility providers
* Liaison with Church Commissioners' Agent concerning all upkeep and repairs
* Making arrangements for convenient appointments for servicing and any work required
* Organising the purchase and installation of items for the Bishop's House on behalf of Bishoprics
* Liaising with the IT support advisors and organising IT provision at the office
* Maintaining the house inventory

5. HOSPITALITY
* Planning and organising catering for a range of social events each year, including the termly civic dinners and evening suppers
* Managing arrangements for the biennial Bishop's Garden Party
* Coordinating a week of Summer Term evening receptions (held in alternate years to the Bishop's Garden Party)
* Venue management and liaison

6. SUPPORTING THE WORK OF THE DIOCESE
* Organising the recruitment process for all senior appointments in the Diocese, including the advertising of posts and the logistics of all meetings and interviews
* Distributing information and organising arrangements for Deanery Days across the Diocese
* Working with the Bishop's Chaplain to agree and confirm dates for confirmations
* Supporting the Bishop's Chaplain with the clergy ministerial development review (MDR) process, including maintaining the database and collating and filing completed reviews on a two-year cycle.
* Supporting the Bishop's Chaplain in managing enquiries and maintaining up-to-date records of those holding the Bishop's Permission to Officiate (PtO).
* Confirming with the appropriate church leader, lay or ordained, the purpose of each parish visit; making all practical arrangements and briefing the Bishop beforehand

7. CIVIC VISITS
* Planning and organising a programme of visits to individuals, institutions, workplaces and events across the region with a focus on extending the reach and mission of the Church
* Responding to all invitations for the Bishop to attend civic events and meetings outside the Church

8. NATIONAL CHURCH
* Collating all papers and making the logistical arrangements for the Bishop's work related to General Synod, the House of Bishops, College of Bishops, the Archbishops' Council and any other national and regional meetings
* Managing the Bishop's Church Commissioner Trustee commitments, including maintaining the diary, preparing meeting papers and ensuring all relevant documentation is available in advance of meetings
* Engagement with the PA network and key members of the NCI staff

9. HOUSE OF LORDS
* Liaising closely with the Bishop's Parliamentary and Policy Researcher on the Bishop's schedule in the House of Lords
* Assisting with papers relating to the Bishop's role in the House of Lords
* Processing the Bishop's monthly HOL expense claim

10. ORGREAVE INQUIRY
* Liaising closely with the Orgreave Inquiry Secretariat to coordinate the Bishop's involvement, including managing meeting requests and maintaining the diary
* Completing the Bishop's monthly fees timesheet and expense proforma

11. LINE MANAGEMENT and Development of the Administrative Assistant

* Carrying out other duties as and when required

Qualifications / Education / Experience
* Educated to degree standard or with relevant secretarial qualifications and equivalent work experience
* Previous PA and administrative experience reporting to a senior manager
* Finance processing and accounts management
* Must be able to handle confidential information
* Experienced in dealing with people at all levels
* Ability to prioritise effectively

Knowledge, Skills, Attributes

Working nationally, you'll play a key role in equipping dioceses with the tools, resources and communications they need to support those exploring their vocation, while enabling parishes to nurture and encourage emerging ministerial vocations within local communities. From digital engagement and website development to events, newsletters and national initiatives, this is a strategic and creative role with the opportunity to strengthen vocational culture and help more individuals discover, discern and pursue God's call to ministry.

This is a three year fixed term position.

Play a key part in the renewal of ministerial vocations across the Church by working in close partnership with colleagues to:

The Senior Internal Auditor delivers and reports on complex, risk‑based Internal Audit (IA) and advisory reviews across the National Church Institutions, providing independent assurance and practical recommendations that strengthen governance, risk management and internal controls.

The Senior Internal Auditor sits within the Risk & Assurance team, which supports the National Church Institutions (NCIs) of the Church of England. The NCIs bring together a wide range of services and organisations that help enable the Church's mission across the country. This role plays an important part in providing independent assurance that risks are appropriately managed and key controls are operating effectively.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Assurance, the Senior Internal Auditor will deliver risk-based assurance and advisory reviews across the National Church Institutions. The role involves working with colleagues at all levels of the organisation to evaluate governance, risk management and internal control arrangements and identify opportunities for improvement.

The postholder will deliver Internal Audit (IA) engagements from planning through to reporting, producing clear, evidence-based findings and practical recommendations. The role will also contribute to the development of the annual IA plan, continuous improvement of IA methodologies, and the promotion of effective risk management practices across the NCIs.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced auditor to broaden their exposure across governance, finance, operations, safeguarding, and strategic risk, while contributing to the mission and work of the Church of England.

You will be responsible for leading IA work from start to finish. This includes planning audits based on risk, working with teams across the organisation to understand how services operate, and reporting clear, balanced findings to senior management and Audit and Risk Committees. The role requires strong judgement, the ability to influence constructively, and confidence in working with senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

Plan and deliver risk-based IA and advisory reviews across a broad range of NCI activities.
Undertake audit fieldwork, including interviews, process reviews, data analytics, control testing and evaluation of management information.
Identify control weaknesses, governance issues and emerging risks, assessing their impact and significance.
Prepare clear, concise and evidence-based audit reports containing practical and proportionate recommendations.
Agree IA findings and management actions with stakeholders and monitor progress against agreed actions where required.
Build productive relationships with colleagues, senior managers and other stakeholders across the NCIs.
Contribute to the development of the IA plan through risk assessment activities and identification of emerging risks.
Support reporting to senior management and the Audit and Risk Committees.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of IA processes, methodologies and use of IA technology.
Maintain professional knowledge and comply with applicable professional standards and ethical requirements.

Alongside assurance work, you will also provide timely advice on internal controls and risk management, helping teams strengthen how risks are identified, assessed and managed across the organisation.

This role would suit an experienced IA professional who is confident delivering complex IA assignments, engaging with senior stakeholders and providing clear, balanced assurance and advice. You will possess strong analytical skills, sound professional judgement and the ability to explain risk and control issues in a constructive and practical manner.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following key requirements:

A recognised professional qualification in IA or accountancy (for example CMIIA, CIA, ACA, ACCA, AAT or equivalent)
Demonstrable experience delivering risk‑based IA engagements, from planning through to reporting
Strong understanding of governance, risk management and internal control frameworks and their practical application.
Experience assessing the design and effectiveness of controls and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience working with managers and senior leaders.
Excellent written communication skills, including the production of clear, concise and evidence-based audit reports.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret information and draw objective conclusions.

The Facilities Coordinator will support the Head of Facilities & Steward and Facilities/Buildings Manager to make Lambeth Palace a safe and well managed environment for our residents, community, staff and visitors.

We are seeking a proactive and organised Facilities Coordinator to support the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy and diverse estate. The role will be responsible for coordinating facilities activities, supporting contractors and service providers, managing administrative processes, and ensuring a high standard of service is delivered to staff, visitors and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be customer-focused, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Facilities Helpdesk

Providing first line Facilities Helpdesk support. Fully manage requests and contractor works within the Facilities Helpdesk and escalate issues where required.
Organising all planned preventative maintenance and reactive work.
Updating internal stakeholders on progress of the tasks they have requested.
Updating Facilities log system ensuring new tasks are added and completed tasks are updated and closed according to procedures.

Facilities Administration

Requesting all contractor/supplier documentation (including RAMS/Insurance), ensuring accurate storage of information is maintained.
Carrying out facilities duties, as requested by the Facilities Manager/Head of Facilities & Steward.
Supporting the Facilities Manager, deputising on occasion as required and within agreed limits.
Processing and adequately storing service documentation.
Processing departmental invoices.
Managing and maintain the Lambeth Palace stationery and first-aid supplies stock.
Assisting with the continued growth and maintenance of the new asset log at Lambeth Palace.
Ordering equipment and other items as requested by Facilities Manager/Head of Facilities & Steward.

Health and Safety

Ensuring all staff are included within the Church of England H&S portal.
Updating all compliance information and paperwork on to the H&S portal.
Checking and maintain first-aid kits ensuring restocking.
Ensuring fire alarm systems are tested and properly recorded weekly.
Conducting H&S inductions to new starters when required.

Maintenance, Routine Tasks and Porterage

Maintaining routine daily check of Lambeth Palace Estate. Record and manage issues on the Facilities Helpdesk log system.
Carrying out some porterage and deliveries within the Estate and Church House as requested by the Facilities Manager/Head of Facilities & Steward.
Carrying out routine safety checks as directed by the Facilities Manager/Head of Facilities & Steward
Acting as a Facilities duty manager during out of hours events when required.
Carrying out minor repairs when required.

We are seeking a talented and passionate Digital Manager to oversee and enhance key digital tools and engagement strategies. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the Church of England's use of email marketing and audience strategy.

This role will use the tools introduced by the Digital Team in recent years to transform the way we reach key audiences. You will act as a bridge between digital and teams across the organisation, looking for opportunities to connect with communities and equip colleagues to reach audiences in an informed way. You will be responsible for overseeing the use of CRM and email tools, shaping audience-led strategies, and ensuring insight drives decision-making.

You will work closely with the websites and social media colleagues within the Digital Team, and with colleagues across the national Church to ensure a coherent and effective approach to digital engagement.

Digital and Email strategy

Manage and develop the Church of England's use of email marketing platform (Mailchimp)
Onboard, support and upskill colleagues to use Mailchimp for their newsletters and improve the effectiveness, accessibility, and performance of these newsletters and email campaigns
Establish best practice and governance for email newsletters across teams
Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and deliver digital marketing campaigns across channels (email, web, social, paid)
Ensure consistent audience targeting, segmentation, and messaging across all digital communications
Champion house style and best practice in terms of language, tone and accessibility of content.
Audience Strategy and User Journeys
Develop a strategic understanding of key audiences and how they engage across digital platforms
Map and optimise user journeys across CRM, websites, email and campaigns to improve engagement and outcomes

CRM and Platform Management

Champion a multi-channel, joined-up approach to audience engagement

Analytics and Insight

Work with the Data Team to ensure digital analytics contribute to national reporting and organisational insight
Use data to continually test, learn, and improve performance across channels

Campaigns and Content

Support digital campaigns across the NCIs, ensuring alignment with CRM and audience strategy
Provide guidance on content optimisation and digital user experience
Support consistent presentation and user experience across Church of England platforms

Trends and External Engagement

Stay up to date with developments in digital marketing, CRM, analytics and audience engagement
Build networks with external organisations, agencies and professional forums

Essential

The successful applicant will have proven experience in a digital, CRM, or digital marketing role, ideally within a complex or multi-stakeholder organisation. As the lead on using our CRM to improve our communication with various audiences, you will have experience working with CRM systems (preferably Salesforce) and/or marketing automation platforms. Experience managing email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, including segmentation, campaign delivery, and performance optimisation, is essential.

Other requirements that are essential for this role include:

Demonstrable experience using analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, CRM reporting, dashboards) to generate actionable insights
Ability to write clearly and follow house style to draft email copy and train other colleagues to do so
Experience developing and interpreting digital marketing performance reports and using data to improve outcomes
Strong understanding of audience segmentation, user journeys, and digital engagement strategies
Experience supporting or delivering multi-channel digital marketing campaigns, including email, web, and social media

Independent Age is the national charity focused on ending financial hardship in later life. We want every older person to be able to afford to live well.

We stand with older people in financial hardship, offering urgent help today and shaping a fairer, more secure tomorrow. Our Helpline and expert advisers offer free, practical support to older people without enough money to live on. Through our grants programme, we support hundreds of local organisations working with older people across the UK. Responsibilities and Person Specification:

The Finance Officer (Expenditure) is a key role responsible for managing all payments made by the charity. It is a great opportunity to join a small but busy team on a temporary basis.

The role requires managing invoice approvals and processing invoices for payment in line with authority limits, maintaining supplier accounts, generating BACS payment runs to suppliers and making sure all payments are made in a timely fashion.

In addition, you will be managing payments to grantees (individuals and organisational grants), dealing with expenses and credit card queries, as well as managing the finance mailbox. The Finance Officer will also support the month end close process.

This role is a 5-month fixed term contract, starting on Tuesday 8 September 2026. It is part-time, 28 hours per week Monday-Thursday.

Purpose of the job:

The key purpose of this role is to ensure all offices, services and common areas are kept clean by both scheduled and unscheduled cleaning services.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Cleaning toilets, washrooms and showers

Empty and clean waste bins and renew bin liners
Clean and disinfect toilet seats both sides
Clean and disinfect toilet pans, urinals and hand basins
Clean and disinfect all fixtures and fittings
Clean and disinfect floors
Clean and disinfect shower
Polish mirrors
Damp wipe windowsills, skirting boards and ledges
Damp wipe walls, panels and doors
Clean and disinfect worktops
Replenish toilet rolls, hand towels and soap liquid
Fill out cleaning checklist when completed
Report minor repairs and maintenance to line manager

2. Cleaning Office and common areas

Empty and clean all bins and renew bin liners
Dust, damp wipe and polish all furniture, windowsills, ledges, skirting boards etc.
Dust, damp wipe and polish all fixture and fittings
Clean and dust computers, photocopiers etc
Remove hand marks etc. from all viewing panels
Wash cups, glasses and jugs
Put out water, jugs and glasses in meeting rooms
Prepare refreshments for meetings
Clean outside casing of hot and cold drinks machines
Remove marks from furniture, walls, doors etc.
Dust window blinds
Vacuum carpets including stairs
Clean and mop all hard floors including stairs
Clean and polish handrails on stairs and landings
Dispose of all rubbish in the correct manner and designated area
Dispose of food waste in correct bins.
Keep the cleaning cupboard clean and tidy
Replenish consumables in breakout area
Remove all utensils from meetings once it has finished
Replenish paper towel and cups
Prepare refreshments for meetings
Remove all catering utensils at the end of day (If required)

Job description

The purpose of the role is to utilise effective and efficient administrative and fundraising skills to assist in delivering both financial and non-financial targets which will provide a gateway to all fundraising activity across Maggie’s.

As Centre Fundraiser, you will assist the Centre Fundraising Manager to implement the fundraising strategy to deliver income targets through proactive donor recruitment and excellent donor care.

This includes supporting and retaining existing supporters and researching new key relationships with individuals as well as partnerships with local businesses, groups and associations.

You will represent the work, vision and purpose of Maggie’s whilst supporting the delivery of local and central fundraising initiatives and campaigns. This includes presentations, face to face, telephone and written communications.

There will be a requirement to work irregular hours as well as frequent local travel.

About the role

This is a newly created leadership role, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, with the opportunity to make a visible difference across the BDA.
