About the role 

The Campaigning Youth Worker (CPW) will work with young people who are seeking asylum or who are refugees in London to support them to seek change to laws and policies on the issues that matter to them. This role will be located in Croydon and King’s Cross, with regular attendance at our service delivery venues across London as required, including one evening activity per week. 

The role will involve building relationships with young people who attend Young Roots activities and through outreach, having ongoing conversations about the issues that young people say matter to them, working with young people to understand how change to laws and policies happens and supporting young people to take campaigning action to achieve that change.

Do you have a drive for breaking down the barriers of traditional therapeutic services, whilst supporting young people to address mental health issues in a creative and non-stigmatising way? 

We are passionate about breaking down the barriers that often prevent young people from accessing the mental health support they need. In many of the communities in which we work, mental health issues are stigmatised and rarely discussed. Traditional clinic-based therapy can be difficult to access and intimidating for young people, leading to reluctance in seeking the necessary help and opening up. Our approach is to bring mental health services out of clinics and into the communities where young people live.

Box Therapy combines non-contact boxing with psychologically informed interventions with the primary aim being to support and empower young people to improve their emotional wellbeing and mental health. Box Therapy most commonly takes place in a boxing gym setting, where our therapists use non-contact boxing as a physical outlet to help young people build trust, manage their emotions, and make positive changes in their lives. As a Boxing Therapist you will be expected to work with young people with moderate to severe and enduring mental health issues in both 1:1 and group settings. You will not be expected to have a specific sports or boxing qualification, but an interest in fitness and the benefits of physical activity as a therapeutic tool are essential. 

You will receive full boxing coaching skills training as a part of your induction.

• To provide effective mental health support to young people aged between 8 and 25. This includes combining non-contact boxing and physical exercise with psychosocial interventions.

Role Requirements 

· This role will require an Enhanced with Barred List(s) disclosure and barring service check is a requirement for this role. This would be completed on appointment of the role.

· This role will require you to work with clients on a one-to-one basis 

· This role may require you to work nights and/or weekends 

· This role may require you to lone work 

Essential Criteria 

· Experience of working in a residential or institutional or similar sector 

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 

· Clear verbal and written English 

· Strong keyboard skills for data inputting 

· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word 

· Confident and assertive manner  

· Strong team working 

· Ability to respond calmly to crisis 

· Deal promptly with and effectively react to challenging situations 

· Have an interest and genuine concern for homelessness and related issues  

Desirable Criteria 

· Experience of working in a leadership role 

· Understanding of the complex support needs of people experiencing homelessness or those with complex needs 

· Knowledge of voluntary and statutory agencies, housing regulations and the benefits system 

· Understanding of risk assessment and person-centred, outcomes-based delivery

The Faculty of Public Health is recruiting to the new role of Membership Engagement Co-ordinator.

The Membership Engagement Co-ordinator will sit within the Faculty's small communications team to support a consistent and enhanced approach to engagement with Faculty members at local level, working closely with the Faculty's Local Board Members.

This new role will also seek to promote Faculty membership across the four nations of the UK, and provide other support to the Faculty's membership communications function.

The UK Faculty of Public Health (FPH) is full of people who are passionate about improving people’s lives.

We’re a small charity with around 20 paid staff at any one time. Every so often new opportunities arise for people to join the staff team and help to make a difference, but we rely on the amazing support of our members to deliver much of our important work. The Faculty of Public Health operates a hybrid working scheme with staff working 1 day a week in the office at minimum.
