Home-Start Barnet, Brent & Harrow supports families with young children through challenging times. We are looking for an experienced and organised Finance & Business Manager to ensure our charity’s finances and core business functions run smoothly.

This is a varied, hands-on role within a friendly and committed team. You will lead our day-to-day financial management while overseeing governance administration, HR processes, contracts and organisational systems.

What you’ll do

You will:

• Produce management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial reports.
• Monitor income, expenditure and cash flow.
• Oversee QuickBooks and the work of our Finance Administrator.
• Provide financial information for funders, the CEO and Trustees.
• Coordinate governance, compliance and risk-management processes.
• Oversee routine HR administration and work with our external HR advisers.
• Manage key suppliers, contracts, insurance and IT support.
• Line manage the Finance Administrator and work closely with the Office Administrator.
• Improve systems and help the charity work more efficiently.

About you

You will have:

• Strong charity finance or business-management experience.
• Practical experience of using QuickBooks and producing management reports.
• A relevant finance qualification, such as AAT Level 3 or 4, or equivalent practical experience.
• A good understanding of budgets, financial controls and reconciliations.
• Experience of governance, HR administration, contracts or office systems.
• Experience of supervising or managing staff.
• Excellent organisation, accuracy and attention to detail.
• The confidence to take ownership, work independently and communicate clearly.

You will be practical, approachable and comfortable working across different areas in a small charity. You will enjoy improving systems, solving problems and helping colleagues do their jobs effectively.

The role
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising & Communications, you will lead the delivery and development of our events and community fundraising programme, helping to maximise supporter engagement and income growth.

Candidates should have experience of successfully pitching stories to national media and know what makes a good health story. You will have a fluent writing style and be confident working with senior stakeholders to brief them before interviews.

Responsibilities

• Handle incoming enquiries and provide accurate, timely and appropriate responses, briefing journalists in line with RCS England key messages and priorities.
• Participate in an out-of-hours rota for media enquiries. Time off in lieu is offered for significant out-of-office hours worked.
• Research, write and distribute press releases, features, letters and other editorial material.
• Draft articles, quotes and opinion pieces on behalf of RCS England spokespeople.
• Provide press office support to the Faculty of Dental Surgery and its Dean, as required.
• Brief the President, Council Members and senior managers on issues arising in the media.
• Act as the press lead for key projects such as RCS England guidance or campaigns. Devising and implementing communications plans, sharing project updates with the wider communications team, and maintaining a good understanding of surgical and wider health issues.

About you

• Degree educated or proven extensive experience that can demonstrate the essential criteria below.

Main duties of the job

This is not simply a fundraising leadership role. It is an opportunity to build the next stage of a hospital charity: setting direction, strengthening governance, improving fund deployment, developing the team & creating a more planned, visible & sustainable approach to charitable impact. Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, Risk & Governance & working closely with the Chief Executive, Charity Committee & Corporate Trustee, the Charity Director will:

• Develop and deliver a clear 3 to 5-year strategy, aligned to Trust priorities and focused on patients, staff wellbeing, sustainability, innovation and future needs.
• Grow a more sustainable and diverse income base, with a focus on regular giving, appeals, corporate partnerships, community fundraising, legacies and selective major donor opportunities.
• Develop a planned programme of high-impact charitable investment.
• Strengthen governance, decision-making, financial stewardship, risk management and regulatory compliance on behalf of the Corporate Trustee and Charity Committee.
• Improve the use and deployment of charitable funds, including supporting work to simplify fund arrangements and reduce administrative burden.
• Build, lead and develop our capable and ambitious Charity team, equipping them with the systems, processes and confidence to deliver.
• Act as the Charity’s senior ambassador, building trusted relationships with donors, supporters, local businesses, community partners, staff and senior Trust leaders.

Salford CVS is looking for a Development Worker (Violence Reduction) to support a community-led programme in Little Hulton, working alongside young people, residents and local organisations to identify priorities, shape solutions and drive positive change. 

You'll build relationships, facilitate community engagement and co-design activities, amplify youth and community voices, and help local partners deliver initiatives that address the root causes of violence. Main purposes of the post

To support the delivery of the community-led violence reduction programme in Salford, working with young people, communities and VCSE partners in Little Hulton. 

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit worked with 10GM, other VCSE providers and local communities to co-design our approach to a community-led violence reduction programme. The programme is one of the Violence Reduction Unit’s flagship projects across Greater Manchester and is in line with the ambitions of the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Strategy and Public Service Reform programme to involve communities to identify priorities, problem solve and direct investment and interventions accordingly. In Salford, the programme will be delivered within Little Hulton.

Hours: Part-time, 18.75 hours per week.

Days: To be confirmed (core hours are worked between 8am – 6pm, Monday to Friday).

Contract: 1-year fixed-term contract, subject to the successful completion of a 3-month probationary period.

Place of work: Salford CVS’ offices in Eccles and within Little Hulton.

About the role

As HR/People Officer, you will provide high-quality, accurate support across the full employee/volunteer lifecycle, while also contributing to employee and volunteering relations, and continuous improvement of our People & Culture services. As HR/People Officer you will be part of a team who support a headcount of approximately 250 employees, 200 volunteers and 150 self-employed individuals across Hertfordshire. Key Responsibilities include:

Employee Lifecycle

• Deliver a high-quality, confidential and customer-focused People service from recruitment through to leaving.
• Advise line managers on recruitment; selection, interview and safer recruitment
• Provide People advice for queries from the People & Culture team in line with policies, managing and or escalating complex issues as appropriate.

Systems, Data & Reporting

• Produce timely and accurate People management information to assist organisational decision-making. (ihasco, Breathe, Livepay, Charity log, etc)
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within the HR information system (Breathe HR), including new profiles, personal data, annual leave and absence reporting.
• Oversee monthly payroll data collation, including hours, absences, and any contractual changes, ensuring timely submission to Payroll.
• Ensure Breathe annual holiday renewal and other system updates are effectively completed and communicated

Employee Relations & Case Management

• Manage employee relations cases, such as sickness absence, conduct, capability, disciplinary, grievance, family focussed leave, flexible working requests.
• Undertake casework, guiding and advising on relevant procedure including gathering evidence and drafting investigation reports, tracking case progress and ensuring communications and actions are completed.
• Provide consistent and fair advice to managers in accordance with policies, escalating complex issues as appropriate.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to projects such as employee engagement initiatives, policy updates, wellbeing programmes, EDIE (VIBE, Voice, Inclusion, Belonging, Engagement) and system improvements.
• Support quality assurance processes in line with National Mind policies and ISO9001 standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve people processes, recommending and implementing enhancements under the guidance of the People & Culture Director

General Responsibilities

• To support any member of the People and Culture team and to cover team absence as required.
• Note taking for meetings as required
• Promote Hertfordshire Mind services by attending events, campaigns, and open days to raise awareness of mental health.
