About the role

Migrateful is looking for an experienced Finance Manager to lead the financial management of our growing charity.

With annual income of over £1 million and operations across London and Bristol, this is a senior role combining hands-on financial management with budgeting, forecasting and strategic financial insight. A significant proportion of both our income and cost base relates to our trading activities, primarily the delivery and sale of cookery classes, so we are looking for someone with experience of managing finances in an organisation with substantial trading activity, alongside charitable and fundraising income.

You will work closely with our COO and CEO, external bookkeeper and accountant, Senior Management Team and Finance and Risk Sub-Committee to ensure that Migrateful has robust financial information, controls and processes to support good decision-making and long-term financial sustainability.

You will take ownership of the finance function while working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure that budget holders understand their financial position and are supported to manage their budgets effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Financial planning, budgeting and forecasting

• Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with the CEO and COO. 

• Produce regular forecasts, cash-flow projections and scenario modelling to support organisational planning and decision-making.

• Monitor performance against budget, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and recommend corrective action where required.

• Work closely with the COO, through a business partnering relationship, to provide timely financial information and insights on all aspects of operations (especially cookery class delivery).

• Support budget holders to understand and manage their budgets and financial targets.

Management accounting and internal financial reporting

• Work closely with our external bookkeeper and accountant to ensure transactions are accurately recorded, restricted funding is correctly allocated and balance-sheet accounts are reconciled.

• Review monthly management accounts and investigate significant variances.

• Produce clear monthly financial reporting and narrative for the Senior Management Team. 

• Produce clear quarterly financial reporting and narrative for the Finance and Risk-Committee

• Translate financial information into accessible insights for colleagues and trustees who do not have a finance background.

• Prepare financial papers for Board and Finance and Risk Sub-Committee meetings and support trustees to understand Migrateful's financial position.

• Support the COO in convening and servicing the quarterly Finance and Risk Sub-Committee.

Income, expenditure and cash and treasury management

• Oversee sales invoicing and credit control, ensuring invoices are raised accurately and outstanding debts are followed up.

• Review and approve expenditure within delegated authority.

• Oversee fortnightly payment runs and supplier payments.

• Oversight on monthly payroll processes

• Maintain oversight of organisational cash flow.

• Manage our bank deposits at Flagstone to optimise interest income whilst maintaining appropriate levels of liquidity 

Audit, compliance and governance

• Lead the annual external audit and preparation of statutory accounts, working with our external accountants and auditors.

• Ensure compliance with all  relevant charity accounting and other statutory  requirements, including the Charities SORP and HMRC.

Financial controls and systems

• Maintain and continually improve Migrateful's financial policies, procedures and internal controls, including delegated authorities, segregation of duties, anti-fraud measures and reserves.

• Identify opportunities to make financial processes more efficient, accurate and automated.

• Ensure financial systems and processes remain appropriate as Migrateful grows.

Fundraising, funder reporting and restricted funds

• Support the CEO and fundraising team with budgets, financial information and projections for funding applications.

• Maintain effective oversight of restricted funding and grant expenditure.

• Prepare financial information for use in funding applications and reports.

Essential

• Significant experience of financial management within a charity or not-for-profit organisation

• Strong knowledge of charity accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds.

• Experience of working in a charity or not-for-profit that has a significant level of earned income (and associated expenditure)

• Experience of producing and interpreting management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections.

We are seeking an expert and experienced Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager to join our ambitious finance team during an exciting period of financial transformation across a £25m trade union and two associated charities. As part of our new finance strategy, we are embedding long term planning and modelling across the organisation during a time of significant change. With excellent modelling, people management and communication skills, you will lead all organisational financial reporting and presentations, improve and roll out new analysis and dashboards and lead long term planning projects, whilst continually reviewing the wider business environment to identify any potential opportunities and threats.

Hybrid working

The CSP operates a hybrid working model, allowing employees to work between their home and the office. While we do not stipulate the number of days in the office, employees can decide, through discussions with their line managers, how, when, and where they work best, balancing the needs of the CSP, the team, and themselves. 🔧 Key Responsibilities

Budget and Strategic Management

● Support organisational financial decision-making through financial analysis, management accounts, budget monitoring and variance reporting.

● Attend regular month-end finance meetings with the Treasurer and General Manager to review financial reporting.

● Develop and maintain templates for recording budgets, cashflow, freelance payment schedule and continuously improve financial systems and processes.

● Support department leads to plan, monitor, and manage budgets, and to meet reporting deadlines as set by the Artistic Director and Trustees.

● Assist the Artistic Director in managing budgets and associated cashflows where there is no other identified project lead.

Financial Processing & Bookkeeping

● Record Transactions: Record all income, expenditure, invoices and expenses accurately in the cashbook, cashflow forecasts and accounting software.

● Bank Reconciliations: Complete monthly reconciliations for all bank accounts, PayPal, Stripe and GoCardless, investigating and resolving discrepancies.

● Ledger Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date purchase, sales, and general ledgers.

● Payment Processing: Prepare and process approved supplier payments and staff/volunteer expense claims, ensuring appropriate authorisation and supporting documentation.

● Credit Control: Monitor outstanding invoices and payments, follow up overdue accounts and escalate persistent or significant debts as appropriate.

● Supplier Invoice Processing: Receive, check and process supplier invoices, ensuring they are correctly allocated to the relevant project, department or budget and appropriately authorised before payment.

Fund Accounting & Income Management

● Restricted Funds: Track and allocate restricted grant and donated funds, ensuring expenditure complies with funder terms and conditions.

● Gift Aid Claims: Maintain accurate Gift Aid records and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements. Reconcile GoCardless transactions with supporter databases (RABBLE Rousers) and prepare and submit quarterly Gift Aid claims.

● Theatre Tax relief (TTR): Coordinate with the organisation's accountant on eligible Theatre Tax Relief claims, working with project leads to maintain accurate production cost records and provide supporting financial information.

● Grant Reporting: Support project leads with providing financial evidence packs and spend validation reports back to external institutional funders.

Payroll, Pensions & Tax

● Payroll Processing: Work with the payroll provider to support monthly payroll processing, ensuring statutory deductions are accurate.

● Pensions: Oversee pension administration and employer contributions for eligible employees.

● PAYE Administration: Support the onboarding of new PAYE staff by ensuring required payroll, tax and pension information is collected and accurately recorded.

Reporting & Audit Support

● Management Accounts: Assist project leads in preparing termly variance reports for leadership.

● Reporting: Prepare quarterly finance report for Trustee meetings

● Budget Tracking: Monitor organizational cash flow and alert leadership to potential financial risks.

● Year End Accounts: Liaise with the accountant/independent examiner during the annual independent examination, prepare supporting schedules and documentation, maintain audit-ready financial records, and provide financial information required for the statutory annual report and accounts.

🎓 Person Specification: Skills & Qualifications

Essential Requirements

● Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hands-on bookkeeping, finance administration or management accounting.

● Qualifications: Part-qualified ACCA/CIMA, AAT Level 3 or 4 qualified, or equivalent will be considered.

● Software Skills: High proficiency using cloud accounting software like Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.

● Spreadsheets: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables,data analysis and reporting.

About you

This is a broad and influential finance role, reporting directly to the CEO and forming part of the Senior Management Team.

The Head of Finance and Operations will take overall responsibility for the finance function, providing high-quality financial information, strong financial controls and effective financial governance, while also playing an important role in the organisation's wider operations.

You will be a trusted adviser to the CEO and Board, helping to shape financial strategy, budgets and forecasts and providing the financial insight needed to support grant-making decisions.

A particularly interesting aspect of the role is the grant finance oversight. What are we looking for?

You are likely to have senior finance experience within a charity, grant-making organisation, international development organisation or another complex not-for-profit environment, although relevant experience from other sectors will also be considered.

You will bring:

• Strong financial management, analysis and strategic planning skills

About CoppaFeel!

CoppaFeel! are the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity, and we’re on a mission to get every 18-24 year old checking their chest. We educate people on the signs of breast cancer and encourage them to check their chests monthly, so that if they notice something unusual they are empowered to contact their GP and advocate for themselves.

We do this because when diagnosed early, breast cancer treatments are more effective and survival rates are higher. Early detection can save lives.

The Role

Following an exciting period of growth, CoppaFeel! is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Finance Manager to join our expanding team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a solutions focused individual looking to continue their career in charity finance, both Financial Accounting and Management Accounting, and play a key role in supporting the smooth running of our financial operations.

You’ll be working closely with our Head of Finance & Contracts to help manage CoppaFeel!’s day-to-day finances and contribute to a range of essential finance functions. We’re looking for someone with experience of line management within a finance role, ideally within a small team or charity environment. You’ll need to be confident using accounting software (we use Xero), have strong Excel skills, and be comfortable working independently. Most importantly, you’ll be proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to the success of our mission.

You will sit within the CoppaFeel! Finance Team. This role is a hybrid role with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Operations

• Oversee cashflow, month-end processes, reconciliations, journals, payroll, VAT, Gift Aid and grant income.

• Manage the day-to-day finance function, including queries and bank payments.

• Maintain effective financial policies, controls and processes to mitigate financial risk and promote best practice.

Management Accounting

• Checking and finalising of budget holder monthly reports and other internal financial reports.

• Finance business partnering delegated budget holders (managers).

• Lead quarterly Forecasting process & support on annual budget setting.

Stakeholder Management

• Support Auditors and provide required financial information.

• Line manage finance officer and assistant.

• Work with external finance agencies to ensure a smooth handover of day-to-day processes.

Procurement & Projects
