The Role

We are seeking an energetic and collaborative team player to join our busy Examinations department. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual who possesses both administrative and supervisory experience and is keen to advance their career and lead our team to success.

You will be responsible for managing relationships with international centres and customers, supporting growth and allocating workload. Furthermore, you will provide leadership, support and line management to a team of examinations coordinators. You will be responsible for managing in-person tours to countries all over the world and for online assessments both in the UK and internationally.

With excellent communication skills, you will be proactive, focused and can take the initiative to meet strict deadlines across a number of simultaneous projects.

Hours: 35 hours per week; 4 days during the week and 1 day at the weekend.

Purpose of the job/About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Finance team at Dementia UK, playing a key role in the administration, maintenance, reporting, and compliance of funds and fund accounting.

As an Accountant, you will be responsible for carrying out monthly balance sheet reconciliations, leading on all trading subsidiary matters, and ensuring charity tax compliance, including VAT and Corporation Tax, across the organisation. You will also support the year-end process, including the preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts as well as assisting with the external audit.

In addition, you will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of financial governance by improving internal controls, configuring financial systems, and ensuring compliance with legal, VAT, and tax regulations. You will also produce accurate financial information to support decision-making, processing pump prime payments, setting up new suppliers, and managing purchase orders. Collaboration with the Finance Manager and Finance Business Partners will be key to ensuring accurate fund allocations for salaries and maintaining up-to-date reports for effective monitoring.

To succeed in this role, you will be either part-qualified in a UK professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or part qualified by experience, with 2-3 years of proven financial accounting experience. You will have a strong understanding of charity accounting, particularly the Charity Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP), and demonstrate expertise in managing donor/restricted funds, including reporting for major donors, trusts, and foundations. Additionally, you will bring proven experience in enhancing internal controls and improving system processes.

Reporting to: Area Manager

Location of work: Flexible. This post holder will be based at home but daily travel to schools or other establishments within your allocated local area will be required including some early morning breakfast visits. The role will require irregular travel throughout the UK with minimal overnight stays. A full driver’s licence and use of a vehicle is required.

BACKGROUND 

Magic Breakfast is a registered charity providing healthy breakfasts to children and young people in the UK who arrive at school too hungry to learn, and expert support to their schools. Over 200,000 children and young people are on roll at Primary, Secondary, ASL / Special Educational Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units that the charity works with, in disadvantaged areas of Scotland and England. Providing breakfast ensures that children start their school day with the energy and nutrition they need to be able to make the most of their morning lessons.  Magic Breakfast also undertakes research, and campaigns for long-term solutions to end hunger as a barrier to learning.

JOB PURPOSE 

Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good. The Service Delivery team is responsible for ensuring the delivery of our breakfast provision. As Engagement Partner, you will work with relevant partners (schools, local authorities, parents, parent councils) to ensure that breakfast provision is optimized, encouraging reach and providing education on relevant topics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Pipeline development and cultivation:   

• To develop a relationship with the supported schools in their respective area, to enable, preserve, embed, enhance and extend stigma and barrier free breakfast pron.

• To educating and engage with the wider school community, including teachers, parents and children and young people on the importance of breakfast and implications of hunger as a barrier learning through various means including assemblies, staff meetings, online events and regional events throughout the academic year.

• To engage with the wider community to advocate for the importance of breakfast, the work that we are doing in existing schools and to support our campaigning and advocacy strategy and plans.

• To develop brand awareness in schools and local communities in line with our marketing strategy

• To support the recruitment of new schools with launching new breakfast provisions, adapting to the requirements of the school and children and young people, and advising on best practise

• To support any media requests as directed through the Policy & Engagement team

• To capture and report on “storytelling” to enable the organisation to utilise qualitative data to support external communication

The successful candidate will have held broad finance and operations positions, with a track record of interacting at Board level and presenting clear financial and management information. You will have experience in implementing new and/or successful improvements to existing systems and processes, with a track record of driving organisational change. Ensuring that people are at the centre of the Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) you will play a key role within the Executive team supporting the charity to achieve sustainable growth and delivery of efficient and effective services ensuring plans are developed and implemented, and targets are met.

Operational Leadership and Governance

• Overall accountability for the operations of the foundation
• Oversee and optimise internal processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity

• Oversee robust risk management processes and protocols proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks

Financial Management

• Oversee the development and monitoring of the financial strategy for the organisation, providing recommendations, information and guidance to the Trustees and Executive team to inform decision making
• Maintain and review polices and processes to ensure good financial controls are in place that meet both legal and tax requirements. This includes maintaining appropriate records and controls over restricted funds to ensure that these are used and reported appropriately
• Support the Finance Manager and Executive team in setting FNF’s annual budget, with robust analysis and justification of intended expenditure, financial forecasts, cashflow etc. securing active engagement and ownership from all internal budget holders
• Oversee the financial reports required to review progress against plans and forecasts throughout the year and ensuring these are disseminated and understood across the organisation
• Accountable for regular financial updates to Trustees including the Finance Investment Committee (FIC) and Board meetings along with the preparation of the financial aspects of the annual report and accounts
• Oversee the management and development of VAT reporting for FNF and trading subsidiary
• Oversee the financial aspect of FNF Global delivery to ensure compliance with HMRC

Systems and controls

• Lead in the development, implementation and monitoring of effective procurement systems and procedures, ensuring that FNF achieves best value and drives efficiencies through our external contracts
• Lead on the annual audit in accordance with current practice and the Charity Commissions Standard of Recommended Practice (SORP), liaising and managing the relationship with the auditors
• Oversee the operation of the payroll process and related HMRC contract ensuring that payments are made in an accurate and timely way
• Work with the Finance Committee to manage the investments for FNF, overseeing regular reviews of the investment policy and portfolio, liaising with external partners as necessary

the main purpose of the role:

BTC handles HR administration tasks such as contract management and recruitment support, ensuring your time is freed up for more impactful, strategic initiative.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Leadership and Strategy

• As a member of the SLT, you’ll contribute to the charity’s organisational leadership and strategic development, you’ll:
• Lead the development and implementation of a people strategy that will enable Empire’s staff to flourish.
• Review and strengthen our practices related to people, including internal communications, CPD and onboarding.
• Support the transition of Empire from a founder led organisation to a founder inspired charity, including through the development of a Senior Leadership Team.

2. Culture and Wellbeing

• Work with colleagues to define the Empire workplace culture, recognising the charity’s heritage, values, and future plans.
• Develop a behavioural competency framework aligned to Empire’s culture, beliefs, and strategic objectives. We have a working name of Empire DNA, but we’d like you to develop this.
• Lead on the development and implementation of practices that strengthen Empire’s culture and support people’s wellbeing at work. Work with our HR Consultant to make this practice into policy.
• Explore using an annual staff survey to evaluate and enhance culture and wellbeing.

3. Professional Development

• Provide leadership, training and support to Empire’s managers.
• Introduce a standard of line management, and support staff to develop skills and a culture to achieve this
• Train and support managers to provide clear, timely feedback.
• Develop and implement Empire’s approach to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), ensuring the charity offers training and support that enhance people’s skills and career growth.

Our client, a highly influential not-for-profit organisation now has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior HR Business Partner to join them on a permanent basis and help align their HR strategies with their mission.

Please note; this role offers hybrid working requiring on average 2 days a week working in the central London office and 1 day a week in the north Kent office.

The key purpose of this role is to provide pro-active, expert specialist HR business partner services to leaders, managers and employees across the entire employee lifecycle and to deliver effective support in the key areas of Attraction, Resourcing and Retention; HR Operations; Reward and Recognition; and Learning and Development.

· Strong up to date knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.

· Excellent Employee Relations experience including experience of managing a range of complex ER matters, including change and restructuring.

The Role

Accountabilities

1. Strategic Partnerships Development:

• Work closely with the senior leadership and development team to embed a long-term partnerships strategy

• Take overall responsibility for Big Change’s income, driving the growth of a portfolio of partners that sets us up to achieve our mission, pre-empting and thoughtfully managing any tension between commercial and impact drivers

• Qualify, develop, and manage relationships with strategic partners across the system, including complementary delivery partners, trusts, foundations, businesses, non-profit organisations and governmental agencies.

• Work with leaders in each area of the organisation to develop a strong model for partnerships linked to impact.

• Lead the creation of partnerships that enable experimentation and launch new ventures and projects

• Negotiate and formalise partnership agreements that bring in resources, expertise, and influence to advance organisational goals.

2. Pipeline Development:

• Design and execute a comprehensive income development plan that aligns with the organisation’s goals and priorities.

• Work closely with the finance, impact and community teams to align fundraising efforts with project needs and organisational priorities.

5. External Communication and Advocacy:

• Inspire stakeholders by expertly representing Big Change at events and external engagements.

Qualifications / experience

• 3+ years leading a high-performing strategic partnerships team, preferably within a philanthropic or non-profit organisation.

• Understanding of approaching complex problems with systems change methodologies

Financial Accountant

The Financial Accountant is a temporary but crucial role for the Diocese, as you will ensure that our processes and financial information are accurate and efficient, in time for next year’s financial end.

As Financial Accountant you will be responsible for the restricted and designated funds of the Diocese, preparing monthly reports and year end schedules whilst proactively reviewing the portfolio of restricted funds to ensure full utilisation against unrestricted expenditure. You will also take the lead on the re-organisation of investment funds to ensure efficient month end processes as well as managing the fixed asset journals and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will manage the preparation of VAT Return workings and associated reconciliations whilst delivering the monthly close process, analysing transactions and preparing required journals.

It is expected that you will proactively challenge and improve processes to ensure that currently held information or journals meet the audit standard.

Degree qualified or with a professional accountancy, finance or related qualification, you will have experience in VAT return preparation and compliance.

With the ability to interpret financial entries to understand the nature of the financial transactions, you should have excellent problem-solving abilities and be proactive in reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and clearing/or allocating balances.

Your detail-oriented approach towards accuracy and completeness in financial records and reports will ensure you are able to propose improvements to financial procedures and operations.

An advanced knowledge and understanding of Excel, including pivot tables, sumif/sumifs and vlookups along with a thorough understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements, are essential.

A natural communicator, you should have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills as well as having the ability to work well in a team and build effective working relationships with colleagues, and external stakeholders, suppliers and customers.

Victim Support is the leading charity in England and Wales that supports people affected by crime and traumatic incidents. We provide personalised support to help people manage after crime and feel safer through a combination of dedicated specialist services as well as on-line support. You will be the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) for the organisation and will lead on Property and Procurement.
