Young Lives vs Cancer (YLvC) help families to find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.

Citizens Advice Hammersmith and Fulham working in partnership with the national charity YLvC delivers a pioneering project via multi channels (telephone/email/web) providing advice to families of young people affected by cancer.

The project is expanding and we are recruiting a Welfare Rights Benefits Adviser and a Housing Adviser.

The project requires dynamic advisers who can sensitively, engage with families in an often difficult time. Reassure them in terms of options and steps they can take to address the welfare rights/housing issues they are experiencing. Knowing they have options to consider gives them reassurance in a time of uncertainty.

Working with the YLvC team who are located across the UK, advice provided by the project Advisers will also support YLvC social workers, to better help the families and young people accessing the charity support.

We are seeking a Philanthropy Proposal Writer, on a one-year fixed appointment to cover maternity leave. Working alongside healthcare services, you will co-ordinate a group of compassionate, dedicated volunteers, who will support members of their local community in the last months of life, providing company, comfort and companionship to patients across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

You may have experience in similar projects, or come from a clinical background, but will understand and champion the role of volunteers in enhancing NHS services and patient experiences. The Butterfly Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the development, implementation, and scale of the Community Butterfly Volunteer Service, which can bring huge benefits to patients, staff, volunteers, and our local communities. About the team

At Shelter Bristol we provide front line support to over 5000 people a year, through housing advice and support. We strive for change to address the underlying systems that are causing the housing emergency. The range of support also includes legal representation, practical DIY assistance, and welfare benefits advice, so people can address their housing and other related issues. We also raise awareness of housing rights within the community so people can take their own actions and work in partnership with other local organisations.

About the role

You will have your own caseload of families, acting as their key worker and supporting them to either resettle or prevent homelessness. Your primary focus will be on households where some tailored interventions are required around the needs of the children to stabilise their housing situation and enable the family to thrive. You’ll need to provide intensive, tailored support as part of a whole family approach both in a 1-2-1 setting and through group work. You’ll also need to regularly visits clients’ homes and schools across the city liaising with other agencies in the community to provide a co-ordinated service.

About you

You will have knowledge of housing, homelessness and ASB legislation and welfare benefits that affect families and the skills to network and gather information as well as advocacy, negotiation and problem solving skills. In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.

Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.

In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.

This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.
