We are seeking an employment law adviser to fill the post of National Officer Employment Law. As a professionally qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with 2 years post-qualified experience you will lead our legal team and provide professional legal advice on employment law matters. The National Officer Employment Law role is pivotal in supporting our Senior Management Team, staff, and members, ensuring that our legal services are effective and aligned with the union's objectives of building union power.

Successful candidates for the National Officer Employment Law will be able to demonstrate:

The main duties of the National Officer Employment Law role include:

1.Key areas

• Conduct legal research into past cases and documents
• Draft and prepare claims or other legal documents
• Provide legal advice to SMT, NEC, members
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of PCS members
• Keep up to date with new developments in employment legislation
• Provide employment law briefings to PCS staff about changes in employment legislation
• Advise members and Reps on wrongful termination and unfair dismissal claims, including reviewing dismissal procedures and advocating for members' rights
• Assist members and reps in cases of workplace discrimination, harassment, or retaliation based on factors such as age, gender, race, disability, or other protected characteristics
• Contribute to the development of the Unions policy objectives including the PCS planning process
• Provide leadership in delivering the unions Legal and Employment Rights strategy
• Provide support and have direct involvement through the National Management Team (NMT) in the unions bargaining, organising, campaigning, equality, learning and digital agendas
• Manage people and resources in the Legal and Employment Rights Unit

2.People Management

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Global Safeguarding Team as our Senior Global Safeguarding Specialist reporting to the Global Safeguarding Director. This is a senior role in the team and will play a key part in managing and supervising safeguarding cases and investigations, as well as providing proactive support and guidance to Members and Country Programmes on a range of safeguarding topics. Requirements

• Experience of report writing skills, including risk assessments and risk management report writing.
• Technical knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and protection principles and standards.
• Understanding and knowledge of applying a trauma survivor centred approach
• Experience of working with vulnerable groups such as young people and vulnerable communities.
• Knowledge of UK and globally relevant safeguarding legislation and guidance.
• Experience of working in challenging, face paced, and complex environments.

As our Policy Advisor –Research and Data Monitoring you will support the highest standards of research development, analysis and communication of data relating to the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector. 

In this role, you will lead high-level analysis and quality assurance of WASH data use as well as management research resources, include the Research and Evidence Bank, the Research Tracker and the Statistics Bank.

You’ll also: 

• Contribute to the design and commissioning of research projects to support advocacy, campaigns, media communications
• Oversea and manage small research projects – facilitating the sharing of research outputs and learnings within GPAC and across the organisation
• Work closely with GPAC colleagues and other WaterAid UK departments and ensure that information on commissioned research projects and learnings are shared widely across the WaterAid Federation (Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Sweden, UK, and USA)
• Play an active role in the research team, support colleagues and provide feedback as required and support any other relevant processes within the remit of the Policy team and GPAC in general

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need: 

• Excellent numerical skills and understanding of data and statistics, including an ability to seek the latest data from regular sources and to access new sources of data relevant to WaterAid’s work
• Strong analytical, research and writing skills (English language)
• An entrepreneurial approach to supporting influencing work, including the ability to take the initiative and rapidly adapt work plans to seize new and unforeseen opportunities.
