The role

CAIA is seeking an organised, efficient and friendly Centre Manager to be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of CAIA’s building, the Hayashen Centre, and the organisation’s overall administrative systems and processes. This is a varied and meaningful role where no two days are the same; it will suit someone who thrives in a hands-on atmosphere and is passionate about community impact.

This role reports into the Head of Brand and Marketing and sits withing the multi-disciplined Marketing and Communications Team, producing high quality, compelling and insight-driven content for use across multiple channels. This includes video and multimedia content, written stories and blogs as well as leading the podcast production.

Key Responsibilities:

· Content strategy and development – work with the Head of Brand and Marketing to develop and deliver content strategy; assessing content production needs across the charity, generating content ideas with the wider team and managing content production.

· Video creation - lead on the development of video content across the charity, sourcing contributors, managing scripts, overseeing filming and editing with the Multimedia Content Producer for campaigns..

· Blogs and written content – lead on the delivery of the blog plan, ensuring you’re continually publishing relevant, audience-focused blogs in line with wider objectives and activity. Support others to deliver blogs and written articles.

· Podcast – lead on the production and delivery the charity’s podcast, working with external podcast producer and collaborating with colleagues across Marcomms to promote the content. Build business case and plans to develop and grow podcast.  

· Photography – work with the Multimedia Content Producer to maintain the image library, ensuring that consent is current and stories/photography are continually uploaded.

· Family stories – work closely with the Stories Manager to source storytellers for upcoming content activity, collaborating closely with families on commissioned projects to ensure stories are shared in the most effective way.

· Relationship building and engagement – work with external video agencies and freelancers, to brief in, project manage, and deliver content projects that aren’t being produced in house.

· Line manage Multimedia Content Producer – effectively line manage and develop the Multimedia Content Producer including regular 1-2-1 meetings and annual appraisals. Identify learning and development opportunities including training, coaching and skills sharing.

Person Specification:

· Experience planning and implementing content strategies.

· Strong experience of managing video production agencies and other suppliers, from quotation/brief through to delivery.

· Excellent proficiency and understanding of content creation, including video production and editing (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X).

· Strong knowledge of digital requirements such as video sharing formats across channels.

· Experience of line management

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions.

This is a unique opportunity to shape global conversations on climate science by empowering researchers in developing countries to publish and communicate their work, collaborating with some of the world’s leading SRM experts. 

The Scientific Writing and Publishing Lead will play a key role in supporting researchers in the Global South to communicate their findings effectively and contribute to the global SRM conversation. Working within the Programmes team, reporting to the Programmes Director, and in cooperation with the Communications team, the Scientific Writer will collaborate closely with research teams and external partners. Responsibilities will include: 

1. Support researchers with scientific writing and publishing

• Develop guidance materials on topics such as structuring research papers, writing abstracts, and best practices for peer-reviewed publication. 

• Train and support researchers to develop, refine, and publish scientific manuscripts through one-on-one and group training sessions and technical editing and feedback. 

• In collaboration with the Staff Scientist, help build climate researchers’ capacity to prepare and communicate their findings to different audiences. 

• Advise research teams on scientific publishing norms, including peer review, and open-access publishing.

• Support researchers in choosing appropriate journals and navigating the submission and review process.
• Assist researchers in adapting their work for public and policy-facing communication channels, ensuring clarity and accessibility.

2. Lead and coordinate reports and publications

• Serve as the lead coordinator for a recurring international scientific report, overseeing contributions from multiple researchers and ensuring deadlines are met. 

• Act as a writer for key sections of the report, synthesising insights from researchers into a compelling and scientifically rigorous narrative. 
• Work closely with stakeholders and coordinate peer review and fact-checking to ensure the report’s accuracy, consistency, and accessibility.

3. Support Degrees’ scientific communication and outreach

• Collaborate with the communications team to ensure that external materials such as blog posts, website content, policy briefs and media articles are scientifically accurate and up to date. 

• Work with the policy engagement teams to develop scientific summaries and briefings for a range of stakeholders.

• In collaboration with the Head of Academic Operations set and monitor service standards and foster a professional environment of continual improvement, customer service focus and inclusivity across the team, delivering and embedding change where required.
• Ensure services, resources, policies and procedures are effectively promoted to stakeholders across relevant communication channels. This includes staff and student inductions, workshops and managing the library intranet.
• Manage the physical and digital library spaces, ensuring they provide effective learning environments to support stakeholder needs and to work with the Head of Academic Operations, identifying priorities and costs for the ongoing innovative development of these spaces and resources.
• Manage specialist archives and collections.
• Ensure the library team maintains the spaces consistently to a safe and professional standard.
• Proactively work with key stakeholders internally and externally to ensure effective service delivery.
• Review, revise and implement relevant processes, procedures, policies and supporting documentation, ensuring that they reflect best practice and regulatory changes.
• Effectively manage delegated budgets and resources, including budget forecasting, and ensuring resources are cost-efficient and used effectively to deliver value for money.
  Ensure that new and existing resources are fully utilised to deliver maximum benefits for students, staff and external stakeholders.
• To monitor new and emerging library and information management developments and legislation, identifying their impact and making recommendations to take advantage of them or reduce their risk in the university's activities.
• Represent the institution within appropriate forums such as SCONUL and the M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries.

What you'll need to succeed

• Experience of managing library and information services and resources, including catalogues, collections and online resources
• Experience of working in a library setting in higher education
• Proven track record of managing budgets and financial administration
• Demonstrable experience of effectively managing staff and leading teams
• Experience using and/or developing digital resources
• Experience of building relationships with key stakeholders and collaborating on planning and service developments
• Experience of developing and implementing library policies, procedures and services

Key Details

Salary: £51,500 per annum with generous benefits including 25 days annual holiday plus public holidays, enhanced pension contribution, private medical health insurance, life assurance, and flexible/hybrid working

We would like someone who is passionate about supporting young people from ages 10 to 18. The person would have experience in leading detached and youth club sessions in the delivery of high-quality and exciting activities which contribute to personal and social development.

Job Purpose : To plan, deliver and evaluate youth club activities for young people and ensure that all safeguarding, regulatory and health & safety requirements are met.To actively engage young people in informal learning opportunitiesthat promote their physical, mental, social and emotional development.

Hours of work:35 hours per week , Monday to Friday 9.am to 5.pm (occasional weekend working) to include                 minimum 3 evenings per week up to 9pm

Location:East Surrey areas including Caterham, Horley, Reigate, Redhill, Merstham and Tadworth.

Salary: £26,780 - £29,974

Annual leave:Five weeks plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time workers) Holidays increase after two years’ service to a maximum of six weeks after six years’ service.  (pro-rata for part time workers)

We are looking for a motivated self-starter, and someone who is passionate about the work of CJA members. 

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will monitor and map the criminal justice policy landscape, tracking developments across the system. They will engage with MPs, civil servants and key stakeholders, bringing evidence from our membership and the voices of those impacted directly by the criminal justice system to government to influence change.

The postholder will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have demonstrated evidence of impact in policy and public affairs. They should be confident in building relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, be a collaborative and inspiring team player, show commitment to our values and share a passion for the CJA’s vision and mission.

Main responsibilities

Public Affairs (50% time)

• Develop and implement the CJA’s public affairs and influencing strategy to advance the CJA's objectives.
• Work with CJA members on influencing specific legislation, including campaigning around bills, writing amendments, and working with MPs and Peers to promote them within the legislative process.
• Stakeholder engagement (Parliament): Build and maintain relationships with key policy makers and parliamentarians through face-to-face meetings, providing briefings to MPs and Lords for Parliamentary debates, preparing written/oral questions, and attending Select Committees, APPGs, Parliamentary receptions and other relevant roundtables and events.
• Stakeholder engagement (other): Build and maintain relationships with other key stakeholders, including Police & Crime Commissioners, the Victims Commissioner, HM Inspectorates, civil servants, and other relevant bodies.

Policy and Research (40% time)

• Monitor policy and political debates and developments on criminal justice issues, horizon-scanning emerging policy issues, and where appropriate, disseminate and brief colleagues and CJA members.
• Maintain a repository of evidence briefings from CJA members.
• Identify proactive and reactive opportunities to promote and embed CJA and members recommendations and research.
• Produce high quality and influential policy briefs, reports, position papers, and responses to consultations, to advocate for changes in policy and practice put forward by CJA members.
• Lead on the monitoring of policy engagement and impact by using our evaluation tools and work with external evaluators as required to capture impact and utilise learning.
• Work with CJA members, people directly impacted by the justice system and other key stakeholders to harness and amplify their expertise and insights.
• Lead the co-ordination and establishment of member expert groups to inform our policy work.
• Develop opportunities for joint working with researchers / research organisations and manage that partnership work, including co-ordinating the CJA research symposium.

Other (10% time)

• Work with the Communications and Engagement Manager to respond to media and other communication opportunities to promote the CJA’s work and to contribute to national debate on criminal justice issues.
• Work with the CJA team to recommend and secure relevant speakers and presenters for CJA meetings and events. 
• Support the Communications and Engagement Manager to develop content for the website and other internal and external communications, such as blogs and articles.
• Contribute to the general administration and delivery of CJA programmes, events and overall objectives.
• Work with the Director to support the development of potential fundraising bids and reporting progress to funders.
• Conduct the duties of the job description in accordance with the operational policies of the CJA, including the Diversity and Adult Safeguarding Policies.
• Maintain good working relations with trustees, staff and other stakeholders.
• Maintain up to date and accurate records of contacts, engagement and stakeholder areas of expertise.
• Line manage any policy interns and / or other policy staff as required.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required.
