- Manage the new product development (NPD) process for new learning programmes - owning the pipeline from horizon scanning and opportunity selection through to design, piloting and evaluation.

L&W is growing our research team and looking for a Head of Research to lead innovative, impactful research and evaluation projects across our focus areas of employment and skills.
This role will expand our capacity to win and deliver evaluation and qualitative research, while strengthening our methodological capability. We’re open-minded about what that means—but we want people who can go beyond standard process evaluations and basic qualitative approaches. You might have experience mapping and evaluating complex system-level change, applying realist evaluation methods, or developing co-design and participatory research projects. You will have have applied these while working alongside the practitioners and policymakers who need these insights to make decisions.

Main Purpose
The Head of Research: Evaluation and Qualitative Methods is a new post for L&W – as we seek to deepen our capability and expand our capacity.
The post-holder will direct research projects across all of our areas of work, providing specific leadership and expertise in programme and system-level evaluations, and projects mobilising innovative or advanced qualitative methods (such as system mapping, co-design methods, ethnographic methods, creative methods and/or theory-based/realist evaluation).
They will work with the Head of Research: Employment and Better Work to develop the wider qualitative and evaluative skills of the wider research team.
They will also play a key role in leading and writing responding to tenders and working with colleagues to develop pro-active research proposals that fill key evidence gaps and respond to the interests of our funders. This post contributes to Connexional-wide learning and development initiatives, and is specifically aligned with the Wales Synod Cymru District as the Welsh speaking Learning and Development Officer (LDO) and the new West Midlands District following the merger of the current Birmingham District and the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District on 1st September 2025. About the Project:
From Past to Present is an oral history project which will collect and share personal stories of people with learning disabilities and the professionals who worked with them in Kent, focusing on how support surrounding relationships and sexuality have changed in the past four decades. The project will train social care staff to become oral history interviewers, record interviews, and share this heritage through a public exhibition, events and a professional creative performance. The project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and delivered in partnership with a range of local organisations.
About the role:
We are looking for a proactive and organised Project Manager to lead the From Past to Present project on a fixed term contract (22 months). This is an exciting opportunity to coordinate an inclusive oral history project that brings together multiple partners and celebrates the stories of people with learning disabilities.
You will oversee timelines, budgets, and outputs, making sure everything runs smoothly and meets funder expectations. You will manage a small team, work closely with partners, and ensure that all materials, from the website to public events, are clear, accessible, and reflect the values at the heart of the project.
This role is perfect for someone with strong project management skills, knowledge of social care, and experience working with people with learning disabilities. A background in research, or community projects would be an advantage.
Hours:
This is a part-time role, 22.5 hours per week, with flexible working arrangements. Some evening or weekend work may be needed for events, but we will always plan ahead and support you to balance your time.

Hybrid working is available. You will work from your home in Kent and attend in person activities at locations including Maidstone and Canterbury. Travel across Kent will be part of the role and therefore a driving licence and access to your own vehicle is desirable.

About the Role
As Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Officer, you will support the design and implementation of evidenced-based projects. This will enable the organisation to deliver high quality programmes, monitoring and evaluating impact and conducting data analysis, playing an essential role in ensuring accountability and improving information management and data quality.
Your principal duties and responsibilities will include
