Active Black Country is recruiting 3 Learning Leads to play a pivotal role in shaping a more active, healthier future across Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.As a Learning Lead, you’ll put learning at the heart of place-based working - capturing what’s working (and what isn’t), sharing insight across partners, and strengthening collaboration to tackle physical inactivity through Sport England’s Place-Based investment.

We’re looking for people who love connecting dots and people - champions of co-design, reflection and evidence-led practice. You’ll be curious, influential and confident turning complex learning into practical action that drives health and social change.

Your experience could come from any sector - community development, health, education, local government, research or beyond. What matters most is your expertise to lead learning, build trusted relationships and help places learn their way forward.

Role description:

The learning lead will work with local partners to ensure strategic learning is captured &

applied to develop partnerships and strengthen understanding to collectively tackle physical

inactivity and support wider health and social outcomes.

Working to established learning goals the learning lead is responsible for developing,

implementing, and managing learning and development initiatives that enhance connectivity

and understanding between partners to work together. This will involve providing focused

support to partners to capture accurate insight & learning, assessing what works and what

does not, ensuring key learning is shared throughout the process with partners and

communities.

The learning lead will work as part of a team, working across the areas of Dudley, Sandwell,

Walsall and Wolverhampton respectively, whilst engaging with partners & organisations at a

Black Country level to focus on the agendas of transport, housing and health.

Main Duties:

1. Work with the place partners across the 4 Black Country local authority areas and Active Black Country to implement the Monitoring Evaluation & Learning framework as part of the Sport England ‘Place Based’ investment.

2. Develop effective working relationships with a breadth of partners and organisations to support collaboration and the development of a shared purpose to address inequalities that prevent people from moving and being active. 

3. Working with the support of the learning and monitoring & evaluation partners, ensure strategic learning is captured and applied to help us fulfil organisational and place ambitions. 

4. Develop a SMART learning plan for each place, drawing in the real time priorities of partners, ensuring community engagement is at the heart of decision making. 

5. Champion how partners can cascade learning into their organisation to influence wider change, devising creative ways to share the learning at a local level, highlighting need and connecting to priorities to maintain momentum. 

6. Be an advocate for the Behaviour Change framework to ensure this is fully embedded by partners and community groups, ensuring communities are engaged and involved in the co-creation of marketing collateral and key messages.

 7. Participate in local forums and meetings, including forming part of the learning forum, chaired by Active Black Country, to share learning and identify opportunities to integrate physical activity across the thematic areas of transport, health & housing. 

8. Review existing local data and insight, identifying gaps and areas that require further exploration. 

9. Support the local test and learn interventions that have been identified as part of the Place Expansion Development Award, capturing the key learning to support the development award. 

10. Support partners with monitoring, evaluation and learning. 

11. Work with the Active Black Country Strategic Communications Lead to share case studies and good news stories. 

12. To be responsible and take reasonable care for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self and other employees and the public in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and company procedures. 

13. To adhere to the Data Protection Act at all times. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

Person Specification:

1. Able to work as a trusted partner and build strong, effective, and valued relationships across a wide range of people and organisations.

2. Visibly values and promotes co-design and can bring people together to jointly create innovative ideas and practice. 

3. Skilled in building trust and long-term relationships across sectors—especially with local partners, community-based organisations, local authorities and charities. 

4. Proven experience supporting specific communities or localities—particularly in roles involving community development, learning or collaborative partnerships, ideally across the Black Country. 

5. Demonstrates professional, voluntary, or lived experience of communities most marginalised or under-represented in being active. Has knowledge and understanding of the barriers to activity. Can articulate, demonstrate, or evidence the valuable role that physical activity and sport can contribute to health, environmental & socio-economic outcomes. 

6. Strong understanding of how to track, assess, and learn from outcomes in complex, community-driven settings. Familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative methods. 

7. Skilled at applying evidence led approaches to design effective learning interventions which build meaningful impact. 

8. Demonstrable expertise in building a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice, by supporting teams to ask effective questions, use data wisely, and apply learning practically. 

9. Able to work with complexity and influence and advocate for learning beyond programme delivery. 

10. Proven experience in using learning as a driver for change. Demonstrating a deep commitment to inclusive practice, with experience applying in real-world settings. 

11. Can effectively prioritise and set and meet objectives within deadlines and planned goals. 

12. Can demonstrate a quality of thought disseminating data, insight and trends translating it into meaningful action and decision making. 

13. Strong written and verbal skills, able to distil learning clearly for different audiences, including communities, partners, and funders. 

14. A self-starter who shows skills in agile and adaptive working proving they can respond quickly, work flexibly and navigate through fast-paced, changing, complex and uncertain environments.

About the Role

One of Learning with Parents’ objectives over the next five years is to evidence how best to drive inclusive parental engagement. We are looking for an individual with experience in monitoring and evaluation to join our team. 

The Evaluation Manager will be responsible for evaluating our programmes to capture the impact we have, inform improvements internally and share insights externally. The role will begin with implementing an existing evaluation plan and develop into leading improvements and innovations in our evaluation strategy.  It will involve primary research, such as leading focus groups in schools, as well as analysis of quantitative and qualitative data generated by our platform and surveys of parents and teachers. It will also involve reporting this data and supporting others to do so. The Evaluation Manager will be responsible for maintaining tools and processes around evaluation and ensuring strong internal and external communications of findings. 

This is a role which involves extensive collaboration across different internal teams and with external stakeholders such as schools and funders.

Areas of Responsibility 

Evaluation design and planning 

• Improve, develop and innovate on existing evaluation strategies to better capture our impact and the voices of our stakeholders – school leaders, teachers, parents and children.

• Liaise with project leads to ensure that evaluation is planned into projects from the start.

• Liaise with the Programme Director to ensure evaluations are planned in tandem with strategic thinking about parent voice.

• Liaise with the fundraising team to ensure that reporting commitments to donors are planned into evaluations.

• Provide evaluation support with strategic partnerships.

• Collaborate with an external evaluator if appointed in future.

• Feed into future evaluation strategies. 

Primary research and conducting evaluations

• Analyse and present insights from platform data – both qualitative and quantitative.

• Conduct focus groups in schools and online with groups of parents, teachers or school leaders.

• Conduct individual case study interviews with parents and teachers or support other colleagues to do so. 

• Conduct evaluation activities with primary aged children in school.

• Analyse and write up collected data, including qualitative feedback from surveys, interview and focus group data. 

• With the schools team, manage the logistics for evaluation visits, such as arranging dates with schools and designing recruitment materials.

Processes and internal communication

• Maintain communication processes to ensure everyone is up to date and can access the information they need.

• Ensure project management software is kept up to date with details of evaluation activity. 

• Monitor and regularly report on progress in measuring our evaluation indicators. 

• Work with the Tech team to refine processes for managing data which adhere to UK GDPR and best practice in data management and ensure maximum usability of the data.

Evaluation tools and resources

• Develop or refine existing data collections tools. 

• Explore new opportunities and methodologies for capturing child voice and the voices of parents who may typically be underrepresented in research.

• Act as an inhouse technical resource to support the wider team with monitoring and evaluation-based queries 

• Review and routinely update supporting documents such as consent forms.

• Keep abreast of trends and innovations in the wider evaluation sector, identifying new opportunities and approaches for us to explore

Supporting Programme Evaluations

• Support the leads of individual projects to develop project level evaluation plans as required, ensuring that these are integrated into overarching plans, have a Theory of Change and adhere to ethics and data protection protocols.

• Develop or refine existing data collections tools to meet project needs and support with data collection, analysis and write up as required.

Dissemination

• Ensure that findings and learning from evaluations are consistently and robustly documented.

• Ensure evaluation findings are logged and shared internally to inform future programme design and development. 

• In partnership with the fundraising and communications team, create additional versions of evaluation reports for specific audiences. 

• In partnership with project leads, ensure feedback is shared with all stakeholders.

About You 

A successful Evaluation Manager will be able to work across multiple teams to ensure the quality and cohesion of evaluation work.  They will be committed to support the charity’s growth and impact. 

Our ideal candidate would also be able to provide examples of when they have used the following skills and experience: 

• Experience of research or evaluation, including using a range of data collection tools, analysing either qualitative or quantitative data (or both), report writing and sharing findings in a range of accessible and engaging formats.

• Experience designing evaluations and an understanding of the importance of adhering to ethics and data protection protocols. 

• Experience of managing projects which involve multiple stakeholders. 

• Excellent communication skills, in person and in writing. 

• Excellent attention to detail, whether in data analysis or written communication.

• Confidence working with a range of stakeholders, including children and families, and experience developing and maintaining relationships

• Excellent organisational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

• Interest in and understanding of educational inequality in the UK.

• A desire to champion and uphold our organisation’s vision, mission and values.

Our ideal candidate might also be able to provide examples of when they have used  some of the following skills and experience, although these are not essential: 

• Experience working in evaluation at another third sector organisation

• Experience working within the UK education system, either in schools or in other organisations working in the space such as charities or suppliers

• Familiarity with the primary school curriculum and current issues in the primary education sector.

• An understanding of the challenges of identifying and engaging families who are typically underrepresented in research.

• An understanding of the challenges of conducting evaluations in a busy school environment, why safeguarding is important in this context and how it may impact the design of evaluations based in schools.

Enrichment Lead (Corporate Programmes)

Main purpose of the role:
The Learning and Development Coordinator is key to setting and maintaining the strategic direction for the people and culture team, as part of the learning and development function in L'Arche. Learning and Development Officer (Aligned to Wales Synod Cymru and West Midlands)

This role is part of the Connexional Team Learning Network, supporting, encouraging, and equipping the Church to live out ‘Our Calling’ through worship, mission, evangelism and discipleship. The Learning Network primarily works with lay and ordained leaders, helping them equip others.

This post contributes to Connexional-wide learning and development initiatives, and is specifically aligned with the Wales Synod Cymru District as the Welsh speaking Learning and Development Officer (LDO) and the new West Midlands District following the merger of the current Birmingham District and the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District on 1st September 2025. Wales Synod Cymru is a bilingual District of 16 circuits, including the Welsh language Cymru Circuit which covers the whole of Wales, and the West Midlands District has 20 circuits across Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the Black Country, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. Both districts are diverse in terms of population groupings and serve communities in rural, market towns, suburbs and city centre settings.

Education & Skills
Essential:
