Fundraising Events Officer
Location: The role is based at the Trust’s office in West Berkshire with a minimum of three days per week expected to be worked at our Newbury office. Flexible working arrangements are available with the understanding that this must meet the objectives of the charity and requirements of the role.

Salary range: £22,000 - £25,000 FTE, depending on experience.
Purpose
This is an exciting and vital role supporting the delivery of the events programme within a leading mental health charity.
We are looking for someone with a love for events and a passion for supporting people wanting to raise money to make a difference for young people’s mental health. You will be an excellent communicator, highly organised, and able to work on multiple projects concurrently. You will be committed to delivering an exceptional supporter experience for our event participants and community fundraisers. Experience within the third sector is desirable but not a necessity.
As Fundraising Events Officer, your role is to support the Fundraising Events Manager to plan, deliver and review an exciting calendar of Charlie Waller fundraising events, supporting a wide range of third-party challenge events and community led activities.
Key responsibilities and duties
The Fundraising Events Officer will support the overall delivery of our varied events programme, bringing their enthusiasm to a calendar of events that aim to raise significant income for the charity, whilst also raising the charities profile and reach. They will play a key role in the delivery of well-loved annual events and support our growing network of event participants. Including but not limited to:
- Supporting the overall delivery of our events programme, working closely with the Fundraising Events Manager, Head of Fundraising and fundraising committees.
- The opportunity to take a lead role on the planning, delivery and evaluation of a number of events, managing the expenditure budget and meeting income targets.
- Maintain event income and supporter records in the database, working closely with the Fundraising Assistant and finance team on processing income and invoices.
- Support the fundraising committees with their activities, providing administrative support and guidance as needed.
- Support the promotion of our fundraising events, writing copy, building emails and supporting social activity.
- Support the development of our event marketing collateral, to support participants fundraising efforts.
- Build relationships with third-party event organisers.
- Provide regular updates on progress against agreed objectives and contribute to wider departmental fundraising reports as required.
- Represent The Charlie Waller Trust at events as required which will include ad-hoc evenings and weekends for which time off in lieu will be given.
- Monitor online fundraising, through supporting those raising funds, to creating and maintaining clear income and communication records.
- Develop excellent and enduring relationships with existing supporters, fundraisers and community groups and engage new audiences. Including recognising and supporting their fundraising efforts and thanking them appropriately.
- Send fundraising materials (including t-shirts, information packs, etc.) to individuals raising money for us.
- Ensure that systems and processes are used as expected, and that our database is being updated and utilised as the central source of information.
- Liaise with a wide variety of people and organisations including supporters of the charity, trainers, funders, other statutory and voluntary organisations who work in the mental health field, and members of the public.
- Ensure compliance to data protection, safeguarding, confidentiality and relevant organisational policies and procedures.
- Other duties as may be reasonably prescribed by the trust, appropriate to the grade and responsibilities of the post.

Charity Overview: Black Country Foodbank is a Christian charity that works within the boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton supporting a network of Foodbanks provide emergency food and toiletry parcels to those in crisis. Position Overview: The Deputy CEO/Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations and strategic planning of the charity. The successful candidate will oversee the operational aspects of the charity and functions to ensure efficiency, while also actively expanding the services across the boroughs with new initiatives. This role will enable the charity to break new ground, expand wrap around services whilst expanding and developing our core - distribution of food and toiletries to those who are in crisis.
This is an exciting opportunity to become immersed in the everyday activities of the charity, whilst playing an integral role in the strategic planning and implementation of new initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to all, right across the charity, securing the confidence and trust of others, building relationships and a deep understanding of all the stakeholders. Able to manage the business of the charity and deputise for the CEO.
2. Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of staff and volunteers. Leading on volunteer recruitment, staff and volunteer appraisals/training and general well-being. 3. Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the CEO and team to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives aligned with the charities mission, vision, and values.

6. Process Optimisation: Identify opportunities for process improvement across all operational areas helping the charity to run as smoothly as possible.
7. Resource Allocation: Manage budgets, resources, funding pots and assets effectively, ensuring optimal utilisation and allocation to support operational objectives and financial targets.
8. Compliance and Risk Management: Working with the staff and vol team to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and policies, managing risks and implementing appropriate controls to mitigate potential issues.
9. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including foodbanks, volunteers, partners, and statutory agencies, to support charity objectives and build on the established positive reputation. Identify and nurture new collaborations and relationships that deliver on our strategic objectives. Identify and build our corporate partners, encouraging working together for the good of community.
10. Ambassadorial role: represent BCFB to the media, at external events and publicity opportunities.

Job Title: Finance Officer

Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 250,000 children to go to school and learn and supported over 25,000 families to set up businesses so they can afford the cost of educating their children.
Part 1: Role Purpose:
This role is a key member of the busy HQ finance function. Although the role is primarily focused on the HQ finances, the role operates within the context of Street Child as a global charity and so also has interaction with the global finance team. The role offers the chance to work across a number of finance functions, and some of the subsidiary charities. It is essential that the applicant can juggle the complexities of a busy role with has varied work priorities. Key stakeholders are the HQ Finance Manager, Finance Director and the HQ based fundraising team. The role works alongside the Finance Assistant and plays a role in oversight and coaching of this role.
Part 2: Key Responsibilities:
1) (40%) Deliver all functions related to Accounts Receivable
- Ensure that all income from a variety of different sources is correctly and accurately recorded in the finance system and CRM (which is under development) on a weekly basis.
- Supporting with work on accounts receivable including accessing, downloading and saving in a systematic manner reports from donor portals, bank account and other sources.
- Working with colleagues in Fundraising to analyse and code income reports in Excel and uploading it to the Finance system on a timely basis, at least weekly. Following up on how to code any income which is not allocated to a source.
- Working closely with colleagues in Fundraising to ensure prompt collection of outstanding balances from customers, and sending out monthly debtor balance statements.
- Raising donor invoices and requests for payments, and issuing donor receipts.
- Income and customer account reconciliations and revaluations.
- Any other responsibilities relating to Accounts Receivable.
2) (20%) Lead the Accounts Payable process
- Whilst the Finance Assistant is responsible for all payments, the Finance Officer has a lead role in ensuring that all invoices are paid on time, in an efficient manner and that the finance system reflects the transactions within the correct accounting period and correctly coded in the system – including account code, cost centre, project code and donor code.
- Determine most efficient payment platform to process international payments, and ensure that recorded in the finance system at the correct conversion rate.
- Be a point of contact with the Foreign exchange agents to quickly resolve any questions.
- Work with the Finance Assistant to ensure accurate and timely recording of all approved supplier invoices, requisitions, staff expenses and other expenditure in the accounting system and that all supporting documentation for all transactions are uploaded.
- Managing at least two payment runs a week and additional runs as required; ensuring that all invoices for payment are correctly approved by the budget holder, setting up payments on online banking platforms and sending out requests for payment approvals to payment authorisers and verifying that all payments are fully approved in the banking platforms by the deadline set.
- Once the payment is made, allocating the payment against the invoices in the Finance system.
- Reviewing staff expense claims to ensure that all supporting documentation is provided before payment.
- Managing monthly staff credit card reconciliations and ensure that these are returned on time with all receipts and invoices and checking and reviewing classifications, with follow up as required.
- Carry out monthly Creditor account reconciliations ensuring that all balances are valid and backed up with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Fully deliver the set up all payroll payments in time for the monthly pay day. This involves ensuring correct amount and currency of payment (which may differ from the salary of the individual’s employment contract) and method of payment across all HQ staff.
- Any other responsibilities relating to Accounts Payable.
3) (40%) Month end reporting and reconciliation and subsidiary accounts
- Complete all balance sheet reconciliations, including bank and petty cash reconciliations and submit for approval by HQ Finance Manager.
- Once CRM system is in place, undertake reconciliation processes between finance data and CRM data.
- Carry out monthly revaluations of bank accounts.
- Ensuring supporting information for transactions is correctly stored in electronic format on Teams such as bank statements, remittance advices, credit statements.
- Assist in preparation of internal reports, including working with Operations Department and Finance department to review their monthly reports.
- Take responsibility to deliver the management accounts of two subsidiary companies: Children in Crisis and HQ transactions of Africa Educational Trust.
- Compile information for Gift Aid returns.
- General support and assistance to the team including administrative duties and managing the office post.
- Other ad hoc support to the wider operations team as may be required.
- Audit: support with the year end audit and provision of supporting information to auditors.

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.
The role
This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.
About You
You live within – or know well – West/Central London; you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the cause you’re promoting. You have a CV that demonstrates experience in a comparable role: this could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, so you will need to be disciplined; you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ our story through your advanced written and oral communication skills, enabling us to always deliver highly compelling reasons to secure gain financial (and other) support. You don’t need to be a Microsoft Office expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Our Grants Officers hold responsibility for operational and administrative support to the fund management of a portfolio of grants on UK Aid Match. About the Mint House
Our aim at the Mint House is that restorative justice and practice become embedded within organisations and communities, being seen as a natural part of 'how we do things' across a range of settings. We work towards this through events and communications designed to introduce restorative justice and practice to new audiences and share learning on effective practice, by providing training and support, through network building, thought leadership and practical projects. Among examples:
- helped by the appointment of a part-time communications officer in 2021 we now have a 500+ strong network of event participants and supporters from across sectors and extending round the globe (though with a sizeable Oxfordshire contingent).
- since 2021 we have trained over 200 managers and staff from Oxfordshire County Council's children's workforce (social workers, family support workers etc) in restorative practice, backing up training with reflective practice sessions and practical resources. More recently, we have been providing similar training and support for colleagues in forensic mental health settings. We are an accredited training provider with the Restorative Justice Council.
- many of our events have a network-building dimension. We also specifically facilitate a network of UK-based colleagues working to create restorative communities and cities, and a network of communications specialists working in our field.
- with support from the Westhill Endowment, we recently hosted two sets of research and practice dialogues, bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to explore what’s involved in embedding restorative practice in organisations and communities.
- we are currently working with partners from across Oxford to pilot use of restorative approaches to reduce evictions of former rough sleepers from supported accommodation.

This exercise underlined that the transformational change we want to see depends on us collaborating with many different organisations and communities, exploring with them what it means to be restorative in their context then working with them to make and learn from the changes needed.
Through our work so far we have encountered many potential collaboration partners. Working alongside our part-time Communications and Events Officer your role as Training and Projects Officer will be to help us implement existing partnership projects and develop new ones. We have funding available to support this post for 12 months initially but aim to make the role sustainable as new projects come onstream.
We expect the role to be home based, but with a need to visit clients/project partners and attend meetings/events in Oxford or the surrounding area on a regular basis. Wider travel to partner events/meetings may also be required from time to time.
Purpose
Support the delivery and further development of ‘on the ground' initiatives demonstrating the difference restorative justice and practice can make to building healthy relationships and promoting peace and reconciliation. As part of this, orchestrate delivery of training and support contracts.
Key responsibilities
a. Manage implementation of existing ‘on the ground’ projects, notably including our Matilda House trailblazer housing project.
b. Co-ordinate delivery of training and support, liaising with clients to understand delivery requirements and with in-house and associate trainers to confirm their availability.
c. Support the team of associate trainers, ensuring they are well prepared and supported, with access to continuing development and opportunities for reflective practice.
d. Ensure the quality of training, including ensuring the continuing development of materials and that training is tailored to the delivery setting.
e. Work with trustees to shape and introduce new projects, including liaising with partners, drawing up project plans and budgets and laying the groundwork for new projects as they come onstream. As part of this, and as time allows, input into funding applications
f. Monitor project and training delivery and spend, capturing learning and reporting as required to trustees and external funders.
g. Work closely with the Communications and Events Officer, supporting completion of key tasks as required.
h. Other duties as assigned by trustees.
