Fundraising Officer – Grants and Events

About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.

About You

You live within – or know well – West/Central London; you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the cause you’re promoting. You have a CV that demonstrates experience in a comparable role: this could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, so you will need to be disciplined; you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ our story through your advanced written and oral communication skills, enabling us to always deliver highly compelling reasons to secure gain financial (and other) support. You don’t need to be a Microsoft Office expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Finally, you are self-motivated and energetic, as well as passionate about making sure disadvantaged groups across West London get the opportunity to improve their highly challenging lives. Ideally you will have a driver's licence and use of a car, but this is not essential.

We're seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Contracts Officer to join our team in Kings Cross. Working across almost all London Boroughs, we strive to provide a warm, safe home, from which our residents can begin their recovery, and our Maintenance Contract Officer plays a vital role in managing our contracted services effectively to enable this. This is a great opportunity for someone who is resourceful, interpersonal and a strong team player. 

About the role:

As a Maintenance Contracts Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring our contracted suppliers provide high quality, reliable services to our supported housing schemes, to ensure clients have safe, good quality accommodation they can call home.

In your role, you will lead on tender and procurement processes to secure contracts with suppliers that deliver reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality services. You will be responsible for ensuring all contracted suppliers hold relevant qualifications, health and safety and, insurance requirements at the point of tender and throughout the contract period.

You will work with the wider maintenance team to respond to queries from our supported housing colleagues related to contracted services.

• You’ll bring experience of contract administration and monitoring the performance of contracted suppliers, with the ability to implement and manage supplier performance improvement plans.

Purpose of the role:

Croydon Health & Wellbeing Space (CHWS) is an exciting and dynamic service, run in partnership with Mind in Croydon and Croydon BME Forum and commissioned by South London and Maudsley Mental Health Service (SLaM). The CHWS opened in 2022 with the aim of providing advice, information, and specialist support to Croydon residents with mental health concerns, who drop-in, or have been referred to the via the local Integrated Care Network Plus multi-disciplinary clinical and community mental health support teams.

The Advice Worker will be part of a friendly team, including support workers, crisis workers and clinical mental health professionals and function as the first point of access for visitors to the CHWS. Following an initial conversation to ascertain the clients’ needs, the Advice Worker will provide information and advice, as well as signposting and referrals to specialist services, such as the Mental Health Personal Independence Co-ordinators, Social Prescribers and Community Link Workers, in addition to the wider voluntary and statutory services in the borough. The role will be fast paced and vary each day offering a fantastic opportunity for the postholder to develop their knowledge and skills and make a difference to the users of this service.

You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. You are confident professional relationship builder and has good awareness of Safeguarding procedures. Strong Administration skills and understanding of compliant behaviours also experience of supporting. With good knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of other support provisions.

SUDEP Action is the only UK charity focused on preventing epilepsy-related deaths. We have the only epilepsy bereavement service freely available to anyone suddenly bereaved by epilepsy (including SUDEP). By representing the voices of those who have died and who are bereaved, we aim to learn from deaths, and use research, policy and campaigns to raise awareness and take action that helps save lives. 

Working both independently and with the wider team you will deliver a high-quality community fundraising service. We’re looking for someone who has worked in a fundraising department and/or similar role before, preferably in the charity sector. Key responsibilities:

To be responsible for the effective delivery of services in the communities we serve.

• Manage all aspects of operational performance of the services in line with KPI expectations.
• Accountable for the leadership, line management responsibility and operational direction of the service delivery teams.
• Take financial responsibility for the service delivery budgets through annual budget setting, monthly reviewing, and quarterly reforecasting. 
• Continually develop and review operational KPIs to ensure they drive performance and align with our strategic ambitions. ­­­
• Ensure the customer experience is measured, monitored and delivered with the expected values and behaviors across all teams.

To effectively lead, collaborate and influence to contribute to the success of Robin Cancer Trust and its people.

• Engage the teams with the vision, purpose, and strategic objectives of Robin Cancer Trust.
• Contribute to the development of strategy, business planning and prioritisation activities.
• Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team and deputise for the CEO as needed.
• Attend and contribute to monthly board meetings.

Person specifications:

• Driven by the desire to help the germ cell cancer community.
• Professional, diplomatic, and able to make objective decisions in complex situations.
• Ability to analyse and translate performance data into operational actions.
• Ability to interpret strategic plans and models to understand their operational impact.
• Highly collaborative and confident to influence across different roles at all levels of the organisation.
• Highly motivated, resilient under pressure and able to flex and prioritise workloads.

Essential qualifications, skills, and experience:

• Strong and effective people leader.
• Experience of leading change initiatives that demonstrate operational impacts.
• Proven track record of successfully managing and flexing budgets with financial accountability.
• Experience of leading successful service delivery functions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that can be adapted for public and professional audiences.

Desirable qualifications, skills, and experience:

• Experience of working as part of a senior leadership or strategy team.
• Experience in the charity sector.

the main purpose of the role:

• to offer high quality customer service to all visitors and enquirers;
• to be responsible for the day to day operation of the reception area, providing information efficiently and effectively;
• to undertake administration for gym membership and meeting room bookings;
• to undertake additional general administration for The Bridge and provide administrative support to the management team when required.
