The Director of Major Gifts is a frontline fundraiser responsible for driving philanthropic growth by managing a portfolio of high-impact donors. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, and stewarding prospects capable of leadership annual, major, and planned gifts. As a key collaborator within the development team, the Director of Major Gifts aligns donor passions with institutional strategic initiatives to foster a vibrant culture of giving.

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

• Manage a targeted portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects, developing bespoke "moves management" plans to transition prospects into committed donors

• Implement individualized strategies that align a prospect’s philanthropic goals with institutional needs, utilizing data and research to inform appropriate ask amounts

• Collaborate with the Director of Development and Giving Manager to draft compelling gift proposals, case statements, and donor-facing materials

• Partner with the Director of Development Services to execute creative cultivation plans and ensure all activities, meetings, and outcomes are documented in the CRM for team-wide transparency

• Support high-priority campaigns, special initiatives, and fundraising events. Attend school and Advancement-hosted events to build community presence

• Work alongside Development colleagues and volunteers to deliver high-touch stewardship and impactful gift reporting

Essential qualifications/experience:

• Substantive progressive frontline fundraising experience with a proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts

• Building and developing effective relationships

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, highly organized and a problem-solver, positive and friendly, strong people management and interpersonal skills

• High emotional intelligence, attentive listening, and the ability to build credibility with major prospect stakeholders

• Willingness to travel internationally and attend events outside of School hours and on weekends

• A steadfast commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children

About the Role

This is a senior leadership opportunity with significant influence and visibility.

About the Role

The PR team is responsible for generating, sustaining and growing the charity’s income year after year by communicating the work, ministry and financial needs of Caring For Life to a wide range of audiences.

The Trust Fundraiser will focus primarily on securing funding from Trusts, Foundations and grant-making bodies, whilst also helping to nurture relationships with major donors and exploring opportunities for corporate support.

As part of the PR team, the successful candidate will also support wider PR activities during busy periods, including Open Days, Supporters’ Days, formal visits and practical tasks at peak times.

Organisational Structure

The PR team is line managed by the Executive Director, with additional support from the CEO regarding pastoral insight and communication with churches and other Christian groups.

Background Information

Caring For Life has an established and respected Trust fundraising programme, with longstanding relationships built over many years. Alongside carefully stewarding these relationships, the charity continually researches and develops new funding opportunities.

At the end of the financial year 2026, income from Trusts totalled circa £265,000

Main Duties

• Undertake induction and training relevant to the role.
• Maintain and develop the existing Trusts database.
• Ensure reports and funding applications are submitted accurately and on time.
• Keep clear records of applications, correspondence, grants received and acknowledgements sent.
• Research new Trusts and funding opportunities using online systems, publications and resources such as Invisible Grantmakers.
• Work with project leaders and senior managers to identify fundable projects and budget requirements.
• Attend budget meetings and assist staff in understanding funding allocations.
• Prepare compelling funding proposals, reports and covering letters.
• Liaise with the Design and Media team regarding photography and supporting materials.
• Maintain records and communication with major donors as requested by the Executive Committee.
• Support and grow corporate donor relationships.
• Conduct all duties in a professional and Christ-like manner that honours the Lord Jesus Christ and protects the reputation of Caring For Life.
• Undertake relevant in-house and external training as required.

Please note that while this role has a primary focus within fundraising and PR, all appointments at Caring For Life are to the wider ministry of the Trust. Staff may occasionally be required to support other areas of work according to the needs of the ministry and the welfare of beneficiaries.

The Role

As Senior Relationships Fundraiser you will manage a team of 3, including a Relationships Fundraiser (Individual Gifts), Relationship Fundraiser (Trusts and Major Donors) and a Fundraising Administrator.

You will report into the Fundraising Manager and be responsible for delivering income to target, in line with the fundraising strategy.

The main duties include:

• Work with the wider Income Generation and Marketing teams to develop a fundraising strategy, continually sharing insights, leads and opportunities to promote effective growth.
• Lead the development of income from trusts and foundations, major donors, regular givers, direct mail appeals, gifts in memory and gifts in wills.
• Hold regular, supportive 1:1 meetings and bi-annual performance reviews.
• Ensure all fundraising adheres to legislation and follows best practice.

The Person

We are looking for someone with proven experience in an income generation role. You will ideally have knowledge and understanding of donor motivations and high value fundraising principles. Experience in developing donor journeys, campaigns or funding proposals would also be desirable.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are vital in this role, along with the ability to coach and lead a small team. Previous management experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

You must be experienced working to targets, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting. As Senior Relationship Fundraiser you will inform key decisions, so the ability to analyse data to is essential.

The Head of Philanthropy is accountable for delivering significant philanthropic income for Justice & Care, including through personally secured major gifts, alongside building and leading a high-performing philanthropy function.

This role will support the growth of philanthropy across multiple markets, including strengthening the UK portfolio and developing opportunities in the US and emerging markets (e.g. Middle East), working closely with senior stakeholders to shape and deliver market-specific approaches.

• Lead the development and delivery of the philanthropy strategy, with a clear focuson generating major donor income in the UK and driving growth in the US and emerging markets
• Be accountable for achieving philanthropy income targets, including through personally secured major gifts, working closely with the Global Director of Fundraising
• Translate organisational priorities into fundable propositions and compelling donor opportunities
• Actively shape and drive the philanthropy pipeline, making clear, evidence-based decisions about where time and effort are invested
• Work with the CEO, Board and senior leaders to prepare and support major donor asks, including co-solicitation where appropriate

2. Major Gifts and New Business

• Personally manage and grow a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects, typically at £25k-£250k+ level
• Lead all stages of the donor journey: identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
• Personally secure new major gifts through one-to-one relationship building, tailored proposals and direct asks
• Develop and maintain a live pipeline of prospective donors with clearly defined next steps
• Take primary responsibility for preparing and delivering high-value asks, working closely with the CEO, Board members and Global Director of Fundraising
• Convert access to senior networks into tangible income outcomes

3. Team Leadership and Development

• Line manage and develop the Philanthropy Specialist and future members of the team
• Build capability within the team to support pipeline growth, donor stewardship and future expansion of the philanthropy function
• Establish strong ways of working, including prioritisation, pipeline management and CRM discipline
• Set clear objectives and KPIs for the team

4. Events and Strategic Engagement

• Design and lead a programme of philanthropic events with clear income andpipeline objectives
• Personally leverage high-value donor events to progress relationships towards major gifts
• Use international engagement and trips selectively where they support donor cultivation and solicitation
• Represent Justice & Care in philanthropic networks to generate new donor relationships

5. Pipeline, CRM and Reporting

• Own and maintain a live, decision-ready major donor pipeline
• Ensure robust pipeline management and accurate forecasting
• Maintain high-quality CRM data and reporting (Salesforce)
• Provide strategic insight on income performance, risks and opportunities

6. Other ad hoc duties

• Collaborate across the organisation to support delivery of shared objectives
• Contribute to cross-functional projects and organisational initiatives
• Undertake other tasks as required to support Development Team and organisational priorities

Why this role exists (the honest bit)

We raise around £1.5m a year against operating costs of around £2.5m.

Fundraising needs to grow — but more importantly, it needs to work better.

• improve return on investment (ROI)

• stop doing things that don’t (even if they’re well-loved)

You won’t be expected to perform miracles.
You will be expected to bring clarity, judgement and leadership — with empathy and humour intact.

The role (what you’ll actually do)

As Head of Fundraising & Communications, you will:

• Sit on the Senior Management Team and report to the CEO
• Lead all fundraising and marketing comms activity
• Take responsibility for income and cost-effectiveness
• Shape strategy, set priorities and make evidence-based decisions
• Personally steward a small number of key major donors and partners

You’ll lead a talented team covering:

· Individual Giving

· Major Donors & Philanthropy

· Corporate Partnerships

· Trusts & Grants

· Digital Content

• Data, CRM & Compliance

You’ll also work closely with our Heads of Equine Welfare and Discovery to fundraise for our work with vulnerable horses & children.

At Trinity Hospice, we provide compassionate care and support to thousands of patients and families across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre each year. Our work is made possible by the incredible support of our community, and our events play a vital role in bringing people together, raising funds and building lasting connections.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic and organised Events Fundraiser to join our Fundraising and Communications Team for a two-year contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a diverse and engaging programme of events at a pivotal time for the charity, as we build towards our next large-scale art trail in 2028 following the success of Elmer’s Big Parade Blackpool. 

In this role, you will support the development, planning and delivery of a wide range of fundraising events across the Fylde coast. You will take ownership of key events within the portfolio, managing everything from initial planning and promotion through to on-the-day delivery and post-event evaluation. Your work will ensure that every event is safe, well organised and provides an exceptional experience for participants and supporters.

You will play an important role in engaging and supporting participants throughout their journey, helping them feel motivated, valued and connected to Trinity Hospice. Working closely with colleagues across fundraising, marketing and communications, you will help deliver compelling campaigns that drive participation and maximise income. You will also use data and insight to monitor performance, evaluate success and identify opportunities to improve and grow the events programme.

We are looking for someone with experience delivering mass participation events, who is confident managing multiple projects and working to targets. You will be highly organised, creative and proactive, with strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, partners and supporters.
