Job description

The main purpose of the job is to maintain a safe and clean environment.

1. The Role:

  • General cleaning of areas at our Day Service premises; some heavy lifting will be involved.
  • Specialised cleaning of areas such as computer rooms, toilets, kitchens

2. In General:

  • Ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of the areas allocated for cleaning
  • Reporting to the Facilities Manager any incident or accident
  • Reporting to the Facilities Manager any cleaning products and equipment required
  • Reporting to Facilities Manager any maintenance requirements such as light bulb replacements, leaking wash basins etc.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required within the level of the post
  • The post holder will be required on occasions to attend training courses as specified
  • The post holder will be required to wear protective clothing provided by the Tower Project
  • The post holder will only use the equipment and materials provided by the Tower Project

Responsibilities

  • Caretaking cleaning of allocated areas and secondary cleaning
  • The vacuuming of rooms and corridors and emptying all waste bins
  • Cleaning the glass and mirrors
  • Sweeping and mopping floor surfaces in kitchen & hall
  • Cleaning the bathrooms and toilets
  • Maintain polite and good communication with your colleagues and visitors to the building at all time
  • Carry out emergency cleaning as required as the result of accident, sickness, etc.
  • Washing internal walls e.g. corridors/stairways
  • Monitoring the standards of cleanliness of the premises and furnishing and reporting any deficiencies to the Facilities Manager.
  • Informing the Facilities Manager to any repairs or maintenance work required at the premises
  • Ensuring that all areas within the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free-flowing and clean.
  • Taking delivery of stores, materials and other goods and conveying them to their points of distribution.
  • Ensuring that adequate supplies of cleaning materials and other supplies are available. Placing the routine order for the supplies as instructed.
  • Ensuring that all caretaking and cleaning equipment is in safe and working condition and arranging for repairs as appropriate. Report faults to the Facilities Manager
  • Ensure that all hard play areas and paths are kept from litter, stones, mud etc and that gullies and drains are free-flowing and cleaned at surface level (and below level if practical)
  • Clear litter from grounds as necessary and check and empty playground dustbins as required ensuring they do not overflow.
  • Check bark in garden area regularly, raking over when necessary.
  • At all times to carry out the duties in accordance with the Tower Project Health and Safety procedures.
  • Be prepared to receive and undertake further training as required
  • Such other duties relating to the use of the premises as may be necessary from time to time
  • The duties may be varied by the Facilities Manager to meet changing circumstances in a manner compatible with the post held.

Health & Safety

  • To ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner and in accordance with the relevant Health & Safety Regulations.
  • To maintain a safe working environment reporting any incident or hazard regarding Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • The post holder will be responsible for health and safety in the area under his/her control on a day-to-day basis, and must ensure as far as is reasonably practicable, that he/she is familiar with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and recommendations and these are observed within his/her areas of responsibility.
  • Attention is drawn particularly to the existence of the Tower Project Health and Safety at Work Policy. Any accident in the post holder’s area must be recorded in the accident book.

Person Specification

  • Previous cleaning experience – Essential
  • COSHH training –Desirable
  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS clearance – Essential
  • Ability to work as part of team - Essential
