This is a unique opportunity to lead fundraising for a charity at the cusp of substantial growth, with an exceptional track record of recent fundraising success, an engaged base of supporters and significant untapped potential across multiple channels.
Overview
As Director of Fundraising and Development for Plum Village UK, you will provide strategic leadership of the charity’s fundraising at this critical juncture. Building on the successful campaigns that brought our new Being Peace Practice Centre into being, you will lead the development of a sustainable, diversified fundraising operation across donor stewardship, trusts and foundations, regular giving, legacies, and partnerships, to deepen relationships of trust and gratitude with our supporters.
This role is ideal for a fundraising leader, whether from a career fundraising background or another field, who brings strategic capability alongside deep alignment with the Plum Village tradition, where fundraising itself becomes a form of engaged practice in service of mindfulness and community transformation.
Fundraising in the Plum Village tradition is fundamentally relational. It is not a matter of extracting income from a base of supporters, but of deepening the relationships of trust, gratitude and shared purpose with those who make our work possible, in ways that embody the values of the tradition. Done well, fundraising is itself a form of engaged practice. The Director will be expected to lead the function in this spirit.
The role comes with a high level of strategic ownership. An initial fundraising strategy has been developed and shared with trustees, providing a framework of priority channels, governance arrangements and resourcing for the next phase. The new Director will inherit this as a starting frame, and will then be empowered and expected to develop, refine and bring forward a fundraising strategy on their own authority, working closely with the Lead Trustee for Fundraising and presenting proposals to the board as appropriate. The role also carries operational ownership of the fundraising mechanics, including the choice and management of supporting systems, databases and tools.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic leadership of fundraising
Lead PVUK's fundraising strategy, developing and refining the strategic direction, and presenting proposals to the Board for approval and resourcing.
Set, monitor, and report on fundraising targets across all income channels, in agreement with the Lead Trustee for Fundraising and the Board.
Provide regular substantive updates on fundraising at quarterly board meetings, working with the Lead Trustee on the preparation of board-level reporting.
Bring forward analysis and proposals to support the Board in setting wider strategic priorities, including realistic income potential by channel and the investment required to secure it.
Identify and manage risk in the fundraising portfolio, including channel concentration, donor over-reliance, and the sustainability of resourcing.
Donor stewardship and relationship development
Lead the stewardship of PVUK’s existing donors, lenders, and supporters with the depth of care that this base deserves, recognising it as the most precious resource of the fundraising function.
Cultivate and deepen relationships with major donors, including through personal contact, site visits, and tailored communication of impact.
Work with the Chair of Trustees, the Centre Director, and other senior figures on key relationships that require their involvement.
Steward the friendly lender base throughout the lifetime of their loans, maintaining trust and keeping them informed of the charity’s progress.
Build and maintain a culture of gratitude and recognition that appropriately honours the contributions of all supporters.
Income channel development
Lead delivery and growth across PVUK’s priority fundraising channels: donor stewardship, trust and foundation fundraising, regular giving, legacies and Gifts in Wills, and partnerships with values-aligned organisations and networks.
Develop trust and foundation fundraising as a substantial new income stream, including scoping aligned funders, building peer-to-peer introductions, constructing tailored funding propositions, and overseeing high-quality application writing and reporting.
Design and grow a regular giving programme that converts members, retreatants and supporters into ongoing monthly donors.
Develop a structured legacy and Gifts in Wills programme that normalises legacy giving across PVUK’s communications and supports those who wish to leave a Gift in their Will.
Develop partnerships with values-aligned organisations and networks where these support both income generation and the wider reach of PVUK’s work, in close consultation with monastics and trustees.
Operations, systems and budget ownership
Own the operational mechanics of fundraising for PVUK, including the choice, configuration and ongoing management of databases, donor management systems, online giving platforms, and integration with communications tools.
Manage the fundraising budget, including a discretionary supplementary budget for consultancy, training, materials creation, contracted support and light administrative resource, deployed at the Director’s judgement to develop the function effectively.
Maintain accurate, GDPR-compliant supporter records and ensure sound data practices throughout the fundraising operation.
Provide accurate financial reporting on fundraising performance, working with PVUK’s finance function and external accountants as required.
Make the case for additional resourcing where evidence of need supports it, including the possible recruitment of a Fundraising Officer in due course.
Communications and storytelling
Lead the development of compelling fundraising narratives that authentically convey the work of PVUK and the Being Peace Centre to multiple audiences, including major donors, institutional funders, individual supporters and the wider public.
Work closely with the PVUK Communications team on the integration of fundraising communications with the wider communications strategy.
Commission and oversee the production of fundraising materials, including written content, graphic design, video and digital assets, drawing on contracted specialists where appropriate.
Ensure that all fundraising messaging about the Being Peace Practice Centre is agreed with the Centre Director before publication.
Working partnerships across PVUK
Work in close partnership with the Centre Director on all matters relating to Being Peace, with agreed ways of working on messaging, external representation, and any programming commitments made to funders.
Work with the Lead Trustee for Fundraising as primary day-to-day point of contact at board level, supporting the Lead Trustee to hold strategic oversight of fundraising on behalf of the Board.
Work with colleagues across PVUK’s communications, dharma programming, sangha-building and partnership functions, with these working relationships developing naturally in the first months of the role.
Draw on external advisors and specialists as needed for support and assurance, both in technical fundraising disciplines and in sector-specific knowledge.
Engage volunteer capacity from within the community where this can valuably supplement the fundraising operation.
We build mindful communities in the UK inspired by the teachings of ‘Father of Mindfulness’ Thich Nhat Hanh.

Head of Operations
Bath | c.£47,000 – £49,000 | Full-time | Permanent
Are you an experienced operational leader who enjoys bringing people, processes and systems together to make an organisation work better?
We’re working with a fantastic Bath-based education charity to recruit a new Head of Operations at an exciting point in its development.
This is a broad and influential role, overseeing the organisation’s central operations across finance, facilities, data and insight, and administration. You’ll manage a team of experienced functional leads and create the effective ‘engine room’ that allows the wider organisation to focus on delivering for its beneficiaries.
The role
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you’ll take responsibility for the smooth and effective running of central operations, with a particular focus on finance and financial planning, alongside organisational resilience, risk, compliance and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Leading and developing a multi-disciplinary operations team
· Overseeing the finance function, including financial management, reporting and compliance
· Leading the annual budgeting, financial planning and resource allocation process
· Overseeing facilities, infrastructure, data and central administration
· Leading on operational risk, business continuity and regulatory compliance
· Improving systems, processes and ways of working across the organisation
· Supporting annual planning, organisational development and strategic delivery
· Working closely with the Chief Executive, senior leadership team and Trustees
· Managing relationships with external consultants, suppliers and other key partners
· Helping build a collaborative, effective and continuously improving organisational culture
The role has significant breadth, but you don’t need to be a technical specialist in every area. We’re looking for someone with the judgement to know when to lead directly, when to draw on the expertise within their team and when external support is required.
About you
This could suit someone from an operations, finance or facilities background who has progressed into broader organisational leadership.
You’ll need significant experience of managing across multiple functions, alongside a track record of leading teams and improving systems and processes.
You should also be comfortable overseeing budgets and financial processes, managing risk and compliance, and working with external suppliers or professional advisers. Experience within a charity, education, membership or other mission-driven environment would be particularly valuable.
Most importantly, we’re looking for a practical and solutions-focused leader who enjoys bringing different functions together. Someone who can see the bigger picture but is equally comfortable getting involved when needed, building strong relationships and maintaining momentum through change.
This is a new role within an organisation already midway through an ambitious development programme, so there is a genuine opportunity to influence how the organisation operates in the future.
Salary: c.£47,000 – £49,000
Location: Bath – predominantly campus-based with some flexibility for remote working
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time
Closing date: 21st September 2026

Lead the strategy and team behind Europe’s push for protein diversification.
The Good Food Institute Europe (GFI Europe) is a nonprofit think tank at the forefront of the movement to transform meat production in order to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic resistance and animal suffering. Our vision is a thriving world, fed sustainably.
With a nonprofit entity in Belgium, a branch in the UK and colleagues working from seven other countries that make up GFI Europe, we are also part of an international network of affiliates. We advance the science, policies and investment needed to make plant-based, cultivated and fermentation-made meat delicious, affordable and accessible across Europe. Please check out the rest of our website, our 2025 Year in Review and our 2025 Europe highlights blog post to find out more about who we are and what we do.
We are looking for an Executive Director to lead GFI Europe’s strategy and team, play a key role in shaping and advancing GFI’s global strategy, and foster the relationships and organisational strength needed to accelerate the shift towards a resilient and sustainable food system.
How you will make a difference
You will have high responsibility and high impact. Reporting to, and appointed by, the Board of GFI Europe, you will lead a ~50-person team working from nine European countries.
You will:
Enable strategic focus:
Align the team around a clear and compelling organisational direction that aligns with the GFI network’s mission and theory of change.
Translate organisational direction into high-level priorities in collaboration with GFI Europe’s Leadership Team.
Ensure Europe’s strategic decisions are made well – soliciting the right input from the right people, preserving autonomy in areas of specific expertise, and making decisions when organisation-wide trade-offs are required.
Take ultimate responsibility for maximising outcomes and impact in pursuit of our mission.
Provide leadership to the team:
Empower, develop and inspire a high-performing, people-centric team.
Lead GFI Europe’s Leadership Team, formed of six department heads, ensuring they continue to function on a ‘first-team’ basis to achieve organisational objectives.
Champion and uphold a values-driven culture built upon transparency, autonomy, collaboration, accountability, and psychological safety. Champion the integration of diversity, equity and inclusion into the team’s day-to-day work.
Represent GFI Europe in GFI’s international network:
Participate in international strategic and coordination workstreams as a member of GFI’s Regional Leadership Group, comprising GFI’s affiliate leads.
Act as the primary liaison between GFI’s affiliates and European teams on strategies, processes and goals. Ensure the Europe team can successfully connect with, influence, support and navigate a complex international network, including global workstreams such as fundraising and impact reporting.
Participate in discussions about global strategy and resource allocation so as to maximise GFI’s overall mission impact, including communicating GFI Europe’s strategy, resourcing needs and contributions as part of the international GFI network.
Represent GFI Europe in front of donors and external stakeholders:
Work closely with global and Europe-based fundraising teams to help ensure GFI achieves its fundraising goals.
Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, prospective supporters and key stakeholders.
Serve as a public representative of, and spokesperson for, the organisation by speaking at conferences, events, and with the media.
Oversee organisational health:
Ensure strong governance, legal compliance, financial sustainability and reporting in partnership with the Board and the Head of Operations.
Be the main legal representative of the organisation, reviewing and signing all legally relevant agreements and organisational documents.
Perform other duties as appropriate.
Core capabilities needed to succeed in this role:
Mission alignment. A passion for GFI’s philosophy and mission.
Strategic judgement. Strong analytical skills and sound judgement, being able to absorb and process a range of types of information, understand the activities that GFI undertakes, and provide leadership and guidance to team members. You have the experience and ability to make strategic trade-offs across projects, functions, teams, countries/regions, programmes, etc – weighing resource allocation, prioritising impact, and communicating those decisions clearly and inclusively to stakeholders.
Thoughtful leadership. You align teams behind a clear and impactful vision. You know when to persevere and when to change course, and have led people, both directly and indirectly, to deliver impact. You trust the people closest to the work to make decisions, and you address hard topics when they truly matter. You own mistakes and make a genuine effort to learn and grow from them. You are intentional about remote leadership.
Understanding the wider context. You can make sense of the political, economic and cultural forces shaping Europe’s food system today and are adept at drawing on patterns and ideas from outside our field to identify possible implications for GFI Europe’s next move.
Excellent people skills. High emotional intelligence and an ability to diplomatically engage across perspectives, being able to build and maintain trust with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple cultures, viewpoints and needs within Europe and beyond.
Financial literacy. Skilled at overseeing substantial financial resources, including partnering with the operations team on resource allocation. You have held accountability for a significant organisational budget and can interpret financial data to make sound, well-informed decisions.
Fundraising acumen. You understand how GFI’s strategy, culture, and mission impact shape the organisation’s ability to raise funds and steward donors, and you’re enthusiastic about partnering with the fundraising team to make this happen. You bring an understanding of the philanthropic sector and donor relationships, or of fundraising in other sectors (eg, the private sector or government), while deferring to the fundraising team’s expertise on how donor relationships are best managed.
Strong communication skills. An ability to convincingly articulate and explain our mission and work and to represent the organisation in the media, with programmatic stakeholders, and with donors. Comfort adapting your tone and message for different audiences across diverse cultures, and excellent verbal and written English skills.
Flexible approach to work. We estimate that travel will account for approximately six weeks of the year. This will likely consist of two GFI Europe team-wide retreats (3-5 days each), one leadership retreat (2-3 days), other sporadic trips generally lasting 1-3 days, and occasional longer trips of approximately 5-7 days (for conferences and donor or partner meetings across Europe and internationally). In addition, you will need occasional flexibility in your working hours to accommodate coordination with other affiliates around the world.
Integrity. You do what you say you’ll do, and are discreet when handling confidential information.

Project Coordinator – Mobile Dignity Hub, South-West England
Job description
This is a role based in the South-West of England, working across the region to deliver a new mobile refugee clinic. The Project Coordinator is responsible for setting up and running the pilot project: coordinating a rented van, a small cohort of trained volunteers, and a rolling programme of visits to areas where people seeking asylum have been dispersed. The primary services will be dependent on the availability of other services in the local area but are non-specialist advice and referrals, and the distribution of welcome packs, clothes and hygiene items. The Project Coordinator can be based anywhere across the South-West.
The mobile model exists because widening dispersal is moving people seeking asylum further from city-centre services, often to rural areas with little existing support infrastructure. Fixed premises are a poor fit for many people's reality – low incomes, limited transport, childcare, language barriers and poor health can make a city-centre appointment practically inaccessible. This project takes support to where people are, building trust through co-hosting with local organisations and the use of refugee peer supporters.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with the CEO and Back Office, collaborating on volunteers, budget management, partnerships and the development of the project. This role starts part-time (3 days per week) and is expected to increase to full-time (5 days per week) from January 2027. Extension beyond the pilot period will be based on performance and funding, and decided by mutual agreement between the Project Coordinator and the CEO.
Role specification
Setting up and running the mobile clinic:
Lead the practical set-up of the pilot: sourcing and maintaining a rented van, developing a network of partners across the South-west to coordinate operations and facilitate storage
Plan and deliver a rolling weekly/monthly rota of visits to different areas where people seeking asylum have been dispersed, working towards the target of 200 members served in the three-month pilot (800 in the first six months).
Oversee day-to-day delivery of non-specialist advice and referrals, and the distribution of welcome packs, clothes and hygiene items, ensuring services operate efficiently, safely and in line with organisational procedures.
Create and keep up to date a directory of local support services (health, legal, housing and other) so members can be referred accurately and quickly.
Identify and monitor the evolving needs of members and suggest new or improved ways of working to best serve the communities the project works with.
Identify and realise purchases needed to run and develop the project. Pay suppliers or ensure the Back Office knows when to pay.
Undertake any additional ad hoc tasks or responsibilities as directed by the CEO to support the effective running of the project.
Member support:
Assess member needs and identify local service gaps to ensure relevant and suitable support is provided.
Support members to access and enrol with appropriate service providers through effective referral pathways.
Collect monitoring and evaluation data on what and how the project is delivering, including member feedback.
Volunteers and safeguarding:
Recruit, welcome, train and manage a small team of volunteers, ensuring everyone is well supported and clear on how to help members within eligibility criteria.
Ensure all volunteers, visitors and any other relevant party understand and adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures, including photos/media.
Manage safeguarding, including reporting concerns, incidents and disclosures immediately.
Ensure a safe environment for members, volunteers and visitors, maintaining appropriate health and safety standards on the road and at any partner venues.
Partnerships and stakeholder management:
Develop partnerships with local organisations across the South-West (including hosting arrangements at hubs and other venues) to build trust and extend the project's reach.
Maintain and nurture relationships with partners through clear, timely communication and attendance at relevant meetings.
Budget management, reporting and accountability:
Manage and keep to the project budget.
Ensure careful management of financial resources and account for all expenditure on Xero.
Maintain regular communication with the CEO and Back Office, responding to queries and carrying out tasks as required, including participating in regular meetings.
Contribute to a full evaluation of the pilot project to inform decisions about extension or expansion to other areas.
Essential Criteria
At least two years' experience (paid or voluntary) working with displaced and/or marginalised people.
Ability to stay calm and work under pressure in a highly emotional environment.
Very clear communicator, able to lead and motivate a team of volunteers and clearly enforce rules.
Understanding of professional boundaries.
Ability to stay emotionally resilient and practise self-care while remaining compassionate to the needs of others.
Proven ability to improve services within limited resources.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and tech literacy in general, most importantly with Excel, Teams and digital file management.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
Strong spoken and written English is essential. You must be confident working in a multilingual environment where not everyone shares the same language.
A full, valid UK driving licence, and confidence driving a large van.
Willingness to travel regularly across the South-West of England and to work outside the formal hours of 9am–5pm occasionally, as the work demands.
Understanding of the UK asylum system and dispersal policy.
Knowledge of the South-West of England, particularly Dorset and Bournemouth.
Desirable
Interest and knowledge of the NGO sector and humanitarian movements in the UK and Europe.
Existing network of or knowledge of various services and providers across the South-West
Additional language skills are desirable but not required.
