Job description

We are looking for an exceptional Finance and Operations Manager to support our Head of Finance and Operations; and to take specific responsibility for our systems, to help support our return to the office in a hybrid world, and for the provision of management information to enable our Directors to manage their individual areas of the business.

The role is perfect for a recently qualified accountant with ambitions outside of just working in finance, and wants to work for a growing social enterprise. There are 2 areas of focus:

  • Oversee our day to day finances including payment approvals, invoicing, reconciliations, liquidity management and VAT returns
  • Production of Management Accounts for individual areas of the business in order to allow each Director to effectively manage their department
  • Work with the different areas of the business to understand the work that we are doing in order to provide accurate forecasts for the business as a whole
  • Work with our external accountants to oversee the transactional process
  • Support the teams with pricing of new projects and programmes

  • Overall ownership of our internal systems and system strategy, taking a holistic approach to ensure that the team are provided with the best systems to operate effectively
  • Management of our CRM system, Salesforce, continuing to explore and develop its use in the organisation as we grow. This includes working with users to create reports and dashboards, keeping our data relevant and up to date, and exploring its integration with our other systems and platforms
  • Work with our tech providers to manage our cybersecurity
  • Management and oversight of our contractual obligations with partner organisations
  • Support our return to work strategy as we consider how to manage hybrid working
  • Consider all aspects of our operations from a sustainability and wellbeing perspective to ensure that they are in the best interests of our wider team, the environment and society

  • You’re a natural numbers person, preferably a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) with at least 2 years working in a financial role, and are a proficient and confident user of Excel. Ideally you will have worked with Xero before, though this is not essential
  • You’re a good communicator; comfortable working with everyone across our team. You can clearly disseminate and communicate financial insight and explain the rationale for operational decisions
  • You have excellent analytical skills and are very detail oriented
  • You are strategic and can think on your feet, with strong organisational skills that help you manage and achieve competing priorities
  • You love operations, and enjoy working with different internal stakeholders to consider how to make an organisation work best for its team
  • You are interested in helping us build an effective CRM database, and will be able to draw together cross organisation interactions and understand how they can be linked in a platform.
  • It would be a bonus if have knowledge and understanding of data related GDPR requirements and will have worked with Salesforce before, but this is not essential
  • You understand what it takes to really make things happen in a small but ambitious and growing organisation
  • You are passionate about what we are trying to do and you see this as an opportunity to use your skills in finance and data to align your values and purpose with a successful social enterprise with big ambitions

  • Are optimistic, bring warmth and good humour to work, have a strong collaborative work ethic and bring positive intent to every situation
  • Are fascinated by different organisations and sectors – and would appreciate the responsibility of having access to some of the UK’s most influential institutions
  • Have a curious mind and are always open to the insights and perspectives of others
  • Love the idea of working somewhere people share your values and are fully focused on making a meaningful impact on the world
  • Would enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, are happy to work without a big support structure around you, and would like to grow with a small but ambitious organisation as it develops over time

Salary: £38-45k, based on seniority and experience

Type: It is envisaged that this will be a full-time role.

Start date: To start as soon as possible

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for all employees.

  • The opportunity to shape the activity of a high profile initiative, and to work closely with a wide range of extraordinary thinkers
  • Working for an organisation where we take our values and purpose seriously, and work hard to practice what we ‘preach’
  • An intense but fun working environment, where everyone is enthusiastic about their job (as well as things outside it)
  • Join a talented, diverse team with lots of opportunities to learn. We’ll surround you with smart and driven people who have a vested interest in your development.
  • Private health insurance with Vitality (which also provides discounted gym membership)
  • Pension allowance (5% employer contribution)
  • A book allowance to build the Forward Institute library
  • Generous holiday allowance – and a sensible approach to flexible working

Our office is in Clerkenwell – next to Barbican and Farringdon stations. We will be 30 seconds walk from the new Farringdon Crossrail station (when it opens)

We’re currently working from home, and will support you with the equipment you need to enable a productive work environment
