Job description

These are volunteer roles.

About White Ribbon Alliance UK

White Ribbon Alliance UK is an intersectional feminist charity working to end gender-based violence and advance gender equity in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We focus especially on marginalised and underrepresented communities.

We enable access to unbiased, evidence-based education, resources, and support for women, girls, and trans individuals. Our work influences healthcare professionals, hospital systems, policy makers, and the wider public to centre the human rights of women, girls, trans men, intersex, and non-binary people throughout the lifecycle of their sexual health needs.

We do this through research, community-led advocacy, training, and systems change. All of our programmes and campaigns are grounded in intersectional feminist values and led by lived experience.

About the Roles

We’re recruiting volunteers to help us clear a critical backlog of operational, systems, and admin tasks that are currently limiting our capacity to scale. This is a focused support programme — but also a strategic investment in our long-term ability to deliver effective training, campaigns, advocacy, and grant-funded work.

You’ll be helping us document key processes, organise internal systems, clean and consolidate data, and improve how we track our relationships, impact, and resources. This isn’t front-line or flashy — but it’s work that makes all of the rest of it possible.

You’ll work closely with our Movement Director and relevant project leads, depending on your skills and interests. Some volunteers may focus on operations or training support; others may focus on grants, content organisation, contact directories, or volunteer coordination.

Commitment: At least 4 hours per week
Duration: 3 months initially, with options to continue
Location: Remote
Start Date: Rolling — we onboard volunteers in cohorts

What You’ll Be Doing

These projects are made up of clearly defined task areas. You’ll be assigned responsibilities based on your capacity and strengths. Projects work includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

Key Projects You May Support

1. Internal Systems & Documentation

  • Clean and restructure SharePoint folders
  • Create checklists, templates, and process guides
  • Document core workflows (e.g. monthly finance admin, board packs, reporting cycles)
  • Help build an internal Operations Manual and Volunteer Manual

2. Policy & Compliance Support

  • Build and maintain a live tracker for internal policies (owners, review cycles, status)
  • Reformat policies into clean, branded templates
  • Identify missing or outdated documents and flag for updates
  • Support publication or sharing of final versions internally and externally

3. Grants Content & Process Tracking

  • Help maintain a grant application log (funder, deadline, status)
  • Track reuse of key content across applications (problem statements, outcomes, stats, quotes)
  • Flag inconsistencies or outdated text
  • Format and package grant documents
  • Organise supporting attachments (e.g. policies, financial documents)

4. Training & Alumni Support

  • Coordinate with the charity's training lead to keep schedules, participant lists, and materials up to date
  • Help manage Eventbrite listings and pre-course communication
  • Extract and organise feedback from training transcripts or post-course surveys
  • Support quarterly alumni meetups (scheduling, notes, guest logistics)

5. Contact & Relationship Management

  • Consolidate and clean contact information across platforms (no CRM currently in place)
  • Build a central directory of partners, funders, collaborators, alumni, and mailing list subscribers
  • Work with project leads to ensure data is consistent and up to date
  • Flag GDPR concerns or gaps in consent data
  • Help research and recommend low-cost CRM or contact systems

6. Volunteer Coordination Support

  • Maintain a volunteer tracker (status, role, skills, tasks, contact history)
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Keep internal reference documents and tools up to date (e.g. onboarding checklist, shared resources folder)
  • Help track assignments and capacity across volunteer roles

7. Project & Task Management

  • Help manage Trello boards and task trackers across internal projects
  • Check in on status, dependencies, and blockers
  • Suggest low-cost process improvements (e.g. templates, dashboards)
  • Help document lessons learned and create repeatable structure

What You’ll Get From It

  • A meaningful, behind-the-scenes role shaping the systems of a national feminist charity
  • Flexible, remote working on your own schedule
  • Practical experience across operations, grant support, training, volunteer coordination, and organisational strategy
  • The opportunity to shape real change and support impactful work
  • A reference or LinkedIn recommendation upon successful completion
  • Ongoing opportunities to stay involved in other roles (research, advocacy, campaigns, training delivery, content creation)

Who This Role Is For

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Clear thinkers and communicators
  • Confident using or learning digital tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, Trello, Teams)
  • Organised, responsive, and self-directed
  • Comfortable cleaning up messy systems and working through ambiguity
  • Thoughtful about privacy, consent, and record-keeping
  • Interested in reproductive justice, equity, and systems change
  • Able to work well remotely and ask questions when needed

Skills and Qualifications (Required)

  • Excellent English writing and communication skills
  • Strong organisational and research abilities
  • Interest in SRHR and intersectional feminism
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, Trello, and Canva
  • Able to work independently and meet agreed deadlines
  • Confident navigating and tidying digital files and folders
  • Ability to reliably provide 4 or more hours per week of volunteering time

Diversity & Inclusion

We highly value diversity and strongly encourage applications from individuals in underrepresented communities, including but not limited to: Black, Asian, disabled, chronically ill, LGBTQ+, and retired individuals.

Residency and Legal Eligibility

Applicants inside the UK must already have the right to volunteer. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship. We especially encourage volunteers from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, though all UK residents are welcome.

Applicants outside the UK may volunteer if laws in your country of residence permit you to undertake the tasks described here with an overseas charity.
