Job description

Learning and Development Officer, Scotland and the Shetlands

If you are keen and enthusiastic about supporting and resourcing the mission of our churches, circuits and districts by joining a faith-based Learning and Development team, then we would like to hear from you. As an experienced professional with a proven track record in learning and development, you will join the Learning Network within The Methodist Church – Scotland and Shetland Region. This is a home-based post, working annualised hours but part-time can be considered.

The Learning Network encompasses a wide range of learning and development areas across a comprehensive work plan relevant to regional and Connexional needs. The LDO will work across a breadth of areas, a particular focus will be supporting regional commitment to being a growing, evangelistic, inclusive, justice-seeking Church. This includes supporting engagement with our Evangelism and Growth Strategy, especially the formation of mission plans that reimagine church and pioneering ministry which creates new places for new people. The participation of children and young people, intergenerational ministry, exploring Methodist identity and resourcing discipleship are key areas to enable new people to become disciples of Jesus Christ.

Some core aspects of the role include:

  • preparing and delivering faith-based learning and development activities
  • sharing gifts/experiences and facilitating effective and transformational conversations with individuals and groups
  • plan, develop and review learning and development opportunities
  • build and sustain good relationships with districts and regions, individuals and communities across the church and beyond
  • regular weekend and evening work, and some travel across the region as required

The successful candidate must demonstrate key skills that include:

  • excellent communication skills through written, oral, visual and digital mediums;
  • good planning, organising and leadership skills;
  • the ability to work collaboratively with strong relationship building skills.

For a lay employee, a salary of £29,500-£35,500 per annum is offered. For ministers in Full Connexion the standard terms of service apply.
