Age UK are recruiting for a Senior Influencing Project Manager on a fixed term 12 month contract.

We will be developing a number of research, policy and practice development projects in support of our new strategy. These include the 'extremely vulnerable people' project and a new partnership researching older people's experiences pre and post an urgent episode of care or emergency hospital admission.

This exciting opportunity will also take on responsibility for managing our response to the Pandemic Inquiry and relationship with the Health and Wellbeing Alliance. This is initially a 12-month role, with the possibility of extending to 24 months depending on project funding.

The successful Senior Strategic Influencing Manager will take the lead in designing and delivering these complex projects, including management of external partners, consultants or agencies and internal teams as required. The role will work closely with the Policy Lead, Clinical Lead and Head of Health Influencing to coordinate and drive delivery of the organisation's goals and strategic priorities across health and care.

This hybrid role, known as a Senior Strategic Project Manager within the charity, offers flexible working between home and a central London co-working hub. Occasional travel may also be required to attend meetings, workshops etc.

Must haves:

• Experience of leading complex projects to deliver a combination of research, policy and practice/ service development outputs.
• Experience of project and programme design, research methods and action learning/ improvement processes, and an understanding of best practice in working with vulnerable people.

• Ability to assimilate new policy issues/areas quickly, make connections between different policy areas, and initiate and frame new policy agendas.
• Excellent skills in policy analysis with a focus on robust evidence, understanding political and policy contexts, and finding solutions.

This 12 month fixed term contract role will work across a variety of projects aimed at improving older people's wellbeing and will partner with teams from across the organisation to develop new programmes responding to the changing needs of older people.

Working closely with Age UK's Network of 130+ local and independent Network Partners, this role will work across the life cycle of projects, ranging from the development of new concepts through to the implementation and delivery of funded projects. The focus of the role will change according to the needs of the department and the needs of older people in the future.

About the team

Shelter’s mature fundraising team has seen continuous year on year growth. The directorate generates over £65m gross income, of which a high percentage is unrestricted, giving us an exceptional level of investment flexibility. This particular role sits within our High Value Partnerships division, which includes Philanthropy, Trusts & Foundations, Legacies, and Corporate Partnerships fundraising specialists. It will also see you work closely with colleagues in a Retail team that’s responsible for a network of 80 charity shops and boutique stores that are the face of Shelter on the high street.

About the role

An ideal opportunity for someone who is interested in a career in corporate fundraising or charity retail, you’ll play a key role in developing Shelter’s retail presence and raising vital funds. You’ll be responsible for enabling stock donations from major retailers, and helping research and develop new relationships with businesses to generate stock and secure their expertise on a pro-bono basis. Thinking strategically, identifying new opportunities, and bringing ideas and concepts to life through written proposals and pitches to businesses in order to generate support for Shelter – all are aspects of a role that will also see you ensure the smooth running of our Stock Generation administration processes and help the Senior New Corporate Partnerships Manager - Retail, with day-to-day activities.

About you

As well as being keen to develop a career in business development and fundraising, you also feel passionately about working with companies to help tackle homelessness. What’s more, you believe you have what it takes to plan and source new stock generation opportunities and develop new acquisition tactics and campaign ideas that will engage retailers. Look Ahead currently manages approx. 1,500 units on behalf of other landlords. The organisation typically enters into housing management agreements and other deliver vehicles [e.g. leases], as part of a wider contract to deliver care and support service to Local Authority and Health commissioners.

Housing management agreements and leases place responsibilities on both the landlord and management agent to provide services to tenants and licences and ensure compliance across all associated legislation (landlord & tenant, statutory landlord compliance and health and safety). To ensure compliance, agreements set distinct responsibilities for setting and collecting rent and service charges and the arrangement for maintaining properties to agreed standards.

The Agency Partnerships Manager will be responsible for ensuring that Look Ahead operates efficiently and achieves full compliance in relation to our housing management agreements, leases and office licences. The post holder will also act as the main point of liaison for the different landlords (both social landlords and private rented sector) and also act as the main interface between the Landlord Services and New Business Teams in ensuring that new services coming over with housing management obligations are properly established and integrated into the service.

The Agency Partnerships Manager will monitor the financial performance of housing management agreements and will take a lead role in negotiating appropriate allowances with Landlords and ensuring the full costs of delivery, including dilapidations and handback arrangements are understood and factored into business planning/financial modelling.

Furthermore, the Agency Partnerships Manager will have a key role in ensuring that operational service understand their responsibilities and will ensure a structured approach to quality monitoring and that Look Ahead/ Landlords are fulfilling their obligations.

The right candidate for this role will have the ability to travel.

This role requires a valid Right to Work for the UK as Look Ahead are not a sponsoring organisation.

You will be passionate about developing people and working with diverse communities to enable people to make change happen together. You will be located with a partner organisation rooted in one of four locations across the UK, Nottingham, Greater Manchester, Lambeth, and Newham. You will bring community organising into the work of the organisation and place it right at the centre of the Power to Prosper programme.

Power to Prosper is a partnership project between The Runnymede Trust and New Economics Foundation aimed at tackling the underlying causes of poverty, inequality, and problem debt in the United Kingdom. The project recognises that the existing economic system leads to profound inequalities that disproportionately impact marginalised groups, including Black and minority ethnic communities, single-parent families, and households with disabled members. The programme will also take an intersectional lens with a strong emphasis on race equity.

This work will involve working with NEF and Runnymede teams to listen to people about the causes and potential solutions of inequality, poverty, and problem debt and to equip people that are most impacted with the skills to act together at a local, regional, and national level to address those issues. The successful candidate will report to a Community Organiser. The post sits in the Campaigns and Engagement Team at the New Economics Foundation, and you will work closely with colleagues at the Runnymede Trust. You must have a demonstrable commitment to anti-racism and have a track record of working with impacted groups with a good understanding of the wider context that causes inequality.

South London Citizens 

South London Citizens is a thriving chapter with a growing team of ~18 organisers and project staff. We are building the power of communities in South London through borough alliances (in Greenwich, Lewisham, Southwark, Lambeth, Wandsworth, Merton, Croydon) and the wider region by developing community leadership and supporting people to take action on what matters most to them. Over the past three years, we have worked in partnership with mental health trusts to deliver a pioneering organising project, South London Listens (SLL), to prevent mental ill-health, and more recently with wider South London NHS leaders to take action on a range of issues (from low wages to housing conditions) that impact our communities’ health.

Purpose 

We are looking for two Associate Organisers to join our thriving and dynamic team in South London building the power of local communities. These roles will support local organising, and have a specific focus on health and living wage organising.

In this exciting and innovative role, you will work with community organisations, including faith institutions, schools, universities, and community groups. Your primary responsibility will be to

1. build ‘Be Well’ teams to support the wellbeing of their communities, as part of the South London Listens partnership; 

2. find and develop new community leaders within their organisations; and 

3. take action to tackle the social determinants of health inequality (e.g. lack of migration status, racism, housing conditions, low wages and precarious work).

One or both of the roles will also include specific organising with low paid workers to lead the fight for a real living wage and living hours.

Grow and deliver on the priorities of South London Listens and our broader Health organising 

• Build and support new Be Well Hubs in a range of institutions in your allocated boroughs. Including identifying new institutions, delivering training, and supporting them once they are established.

• Work with other organisers to deliver on the priorities identified by communities that are part of the South London Listens project

• Ensure reporting and capturing of stories of the South London Listens project are captured and shared to celebrate and grow the project.

At least one of the roles includes supporting our organising efforts for more just work and wages 

• Identify and develop worker leaders

• Take action with South London Citizens leaders to increase the number of living wage and living hours employers in London 

• Develop and deliver community organising training for worker leaders 

Build relational power to further the goals of CUK 

• Actively participate in the development of a comprehensive power analysis appropriate to the desired sphere of influence for each project/assignment

• Establish working relationships with identified leaders and demonstrate ability to move them into action, including as part of the wider alliance; taking the initiative to establish new relationships as required

• Conduct one-to-ones to develop relationships with leaders and understand their concerns.
