Job Purpose:
The post holder will play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational development of the charity with particular responsibility for the charity operations, people and retail functions to ensure they are carried out efficiently and effectively and comply fully with all aspects of charity law and good practice.
A senior leadership team member, this role will lead Alder Hey Children’s Charity’s Retail Strategy, developing a plan for opening of new Charity Shops and growing online sales. They will also lead on the People Strategy for the Charity and Retail teams.
They will build strategic relationships across the sector ensuring that we remain innovative and sector leading in both our People Strategy and Retail development plans. They will oversee the implementation of the Volunteer Strategy.
Main Duties/Tasks
Strategic Planning, Financial Management & Reporting
Lead on the development and implementation of strategic, multi-year plans and budgets.
Monitor progress against strategic plans, budgets, KPIs, producing reports.
Develop a revised Retail Strategy, developing and executing a plan for increased on-line sales and new shops.
Lead on the People Strategy across the charity and retail teams.
Co-ordinate the Operational Strategy across the areas of Fundraising Support, Health & Safety, Estates & Facilities (including asset management).
To build and maintain a high performance culture through effective performance management, communication and coaching of staff, ensuring clear objectives are agreed and performance is regularly reviewed.
To work closely with Alder Hey NHS Trust to ensure strong partnership working with key areas such as Patients Experience, Volunteering and Estates & Facilities.
Operations
Provide leadership and direction to the Operations & People Manager, empowering them & the team to deliver against set goals and objectives.
Oversee health & safety across the charity, ensuring that the team have appropriate processes, practices and policies in place to comply with the law and ensure our team have a good working environment.
Oversee the management of Estates & Facilities across the charity premises, including asset management, ensuring that these are in line with our values, the legal requirements, and look at ways that innovation can help us to improve within these areas.
Oversee the insurance renewal process (for the charity and retail shops).
Oversee processes & practices in relation to donor stewardship, ensuring the team are providing an excellent donor journey and donations are processed efficiently and effectively.
To formulate and propose policies and ensure that existing policies are updated in accordance with the agreed timetable.
People
Develop and execute the Charity People Strategy for both staff and volunteers.
Develop and execute the Charity EDI Strategy for both staff and volunteers.
Be the lead specialist in HR practices and maintain strong knowledge of relevant legislation and good practice.
Oversee key HR processes to ensure they are operating effectively in line with our values and the legal requirements, including:

Retail
Develop and execute the Charity Retail Strategy, ensuring that income is maximised whilst also achieving the Charity’s social mission and awareness within the community.
Lead on the opening of new shops, identifying locations, negotiating leases, and directing the operational plan from concept to opening.
Be the lead specialist for retail in the charity and maintain strong knowledge of relevant legislation and good practice.
Provide leadership and direction to the Retail Manager, empowering them & the team to deliver against set goals and objectives.
Oversee health & safety across the shop, ensuring that the team have appropriate processes and practices in place to comply with the law and ensure our team have a good working environment.
Oversee the management of Estates & Facilities across the retail premises, including asset management, ensuring that these are in line with our values, the legal requirements, and look at ways that innovation can help us to improve within these areas.
Other Duties
Be an outstanding advocate for Alder Hey Children’s Charity in line with the core values of the organisation.
Be an active and supportive member of the Alder Hey Children’s Charity team, contributing to the team’s development and working collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers. Attend and support on events run by the fundraising teams where required.

About the role

What the job involves
The Policy and Health Influencing teams are responsible for using clinical data and evidence to shape what the organisation thinks and to develop solutions that drive change for men with and at risk of prostate cancer. This means working with clinicians, patients and stakeholders to interpret the latest changes in prostate cancer research, care, support and treatment which will help shape our strategic direction and activities.
As the Policy and Health Influencing Coordinator, you're key to supporting these teams. You'll have a varied and far-reaching portfolio of work and sometimes arranging important stakeholder events and meetings ensuring we're hearing from people who've been through prostate cancer themselves. You'll also help share our work on social media and capturing the outcomes of our external engagement.
In this role you’ll assist us in keeping track of and evaluating our progress in line with our organisational strategy, as well as keeping an eye on trends in the wider cancer and health landscape and reporting on them. Plus, you'll handle budget matters and make sure we have effective budget monitoring mechanisms in place.
What we want from you
We’re looking for a Coordinator who is highly organised, an effective communicator and know how to adapt and effectively prioritise your time. You’ll have excellent coordination skills and can organise others too (especially teams which are based across the UK) and have experience of creating and updating forward planners, project schedules and streamlining team processes. You’ll be able to comfortably engage with senior managers and a breadth of external senior level stakeholders. Regularly taking the initiative to drive improvements so that the teams you support can operate efficiently.
With skills in collecting and utilising data to monitor, trend, and report on activity, you're proactive in acting on the results. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Development Worker to join our Cambridgeshire team on a Full time basis. The post will be home based with work across Cambridgeshire including advocacy drop ins, advocacy groups and providing training to support people to learn to advocate for themselves. Thyroid UK is a charitable organisation working to inform and support people living with thyroid disorders in the UK and campaigning on their behalf for the right tests to diagnose thyroid disease and to have a choice of treatment options.
The provision of quality information for people with both diagnosed and undiagnosed thyroid disorders is the primary concern of Thyroid UK, and we work effectively in this field through dialogue with NHS departments, networking with other voluntary organisations, and providing services directly to patients. We work to encourage scientific research for the education, alleviation, care, treatment and cure of thyroid disease and seek to influence public health policy for the benefit of people affected.
Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Charity Operations Manager to run the smooth, effective operation of the organisation so we can best support people in the UK living with thyroid disease. This is a management role leading on all operational activities, supporting and working in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Salary will be reviewed after an initial 6 month probationary period.
This role involves minimal supervision and is responsible for the day to day running and management of the charity.
General office management:
· General secretarial and administrative support including routine office tasks where needed
· To manage all operational activity of the charity according to the strategic direction provided by the Board of Trustees
· To be responsible for all aspects of staff and volunteer management, including recruitment, training and supervision
· Collaborating with other team members to ensure that information flows effectively
Support the CEO:
· Foster good relationships with other charities, organisations and research groups; supporting beneficiaries; liaising with patrons, medical advisers and trustees to support continued engagement
· Plan, market, manage and organise/deliver our projects such as conferences, webinars, surveys etc. to meet our strategic goals
· To ensure the financial sustainability of the charity by identifying and securing appropriate funding that supports the charity in achieving its objectives.
· To lead on trust and corporate fundraising to ensure our income streams remain stable and sustainable.
· Draft, proofread and publish the quarterly member magazine
· Draft and send our E-news to our beneficiaries
· Development of the website
· Management of IT systems
· Recruit, manage and supervise our volunteers
· Recruit and line manage staff
· Maintain and update the suite of governance policies to ensure
Thyroid UK is compliant with legal requirements and, where possible, best practices
· Identify opportunities to improve policies and procedures
· Prepare the annual report and other necessary documents and send to the Charity Commission and Companies House
Support the Board:
· Set Board meeting dates; preparing Board meeting papers, agendas and minutes, and liaise directly with Board members, in close collaboration with the CEO
· Contribute to the development and long term strategy of the charity providing regular reports to the board of trustees
· GDPR compliance in the role of GDPR Officer
· The role will require attendance at Board meetings that take place on Saturdays quarterly with one in London per year

In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of Picker's programme of events. This will include two in-person conferences with attendees from across the United Kingdom as well as regular online events during the year. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective planning and delivery. - Lead for Picker on the administration of events
- Attend events, providing first line support to colleagues, partners, and attendees on the day. This will include occasional travel, usually within the United Kingdom.

In the Register Enrichment team, our role is vital as we improve the quality of the information we hold about our donors on the register, to provide transplant centres with comprehensive and detailed options when searching for donors for their patients, allowing them to make better, faster choices, which ideally will lead to better outcomes for our patients.
You will do this by contacting existing donors on our register and asking them to provide us with a blood or swab sample for us to do further testing. You will communicate clearly with the donors by phone, text message and email, ensuring they understand the purpose of our testing and answering any queries they may have.
You will also communicate with donors to determine availability if the originally selected donor is unavailable at the time that they had been found to be a potential match. We then offer these donors as an alternative to transplant centres if the original donor cannot go ahead.
You will also speak to people who want to be tested for their relatives who need a stem cell transplant and facilitate this for them in a timely manner.
