The Head of Development will be a key member of the Social Sciences Development team within Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE), who will work closely with SoGE and DAE leadership to establish a small Geography team, and to develop a fundraising strategy that serves the School’s goals and grows its philanthropic support.

SoGE is one of the foremost geography and environment university departments in the world, internationally recognised for the quality of its research and teaching. Geography at the University of Oxford is a large, vibrant and intellectually diverse community comprising the core academic department of the School of Geography and the Environment, its three research centres: the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), the Transport Studies Unit (TSU) and the Smith School of Enterprise and Environment (SSEE) and several geographers based elsewhere in the wider university.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced major gifts fundraiser who is looking to grow their career in Higher Education through a senior role combining significant fundraising with management of a small team. You will be a collaborative fundraiser with expertise in major gifts and a strong track record of securing complex philanthropic support. WCCM seeks to appoint an experienced, creative, and highly motivated Grant and Major Donor Fundraising Manager to lead fundraising and grant management across a global organisation dedicated to the teaching of Christian Meditation. Working to the Executive Director, you will interact with our decentralised finance, marketing and communications staff and volunteers.  Together, you will nurture Major Donor relationships and create and manage appropriate donor stewardship schemes and rationalise our income streams. An excellent writer with excellent financial and budgeting skills, you will be adept at pulling together relevant, succinct and compelling information for our donor reports and bids. You’ll work with communications staff to develop impactful donor communications which enhance our accountability and inspire renewed major donations.  You will have a demonstrable track record in winning grants as well as in the stewardship of major donors.  Occasional trips to France. Interest in Christian Meditation/Spirituality an advantage.

You will be experienced in engaging and working with communities and a confident communicator with the ability to network with people across all levels.  You will be able to deliver community specific workshops and awareness sessions, working collaboratively with both internal and external colleagues.

You will cover the following areas:

- East Lancashire – Burnley, Blackburn, Darwen, Rossendale, Hyndburn, Pendle and Ribble Valley
- Central Lancashire – Preston, Chorley and Ormskirk
- North Lancashire – Lancaster, Blackpool and Fylde and Wyre
- South Lancashire – Kendall and Barrow-In-Furness

You will be able to manage your own projects and a small team of community volunteers, prioritising as you go. Whilst this is a homeworking role the majority of your time will be working out within the community and you will be required to regularly travel across Lancashire and South Cumbria. You must live within the Lancashire and South Cumbria area.

What you’ll focus on:

- Identify, engage, build and nurture relations with key stakeholders and influencers in each local community to ensure that dementia is a local priority.
- Develop an excellent understanding of the issues that prevent communities from engaging in dementia services and supporting the development of services to make them as inclusive as possible
- Develop and deliver community specific workshops and awareness sessions that make a positive impact for people living with dementia in their community.
- Recruitment and management of community volunteers to enhance and extend the reach of dementia services.

The Role

Service delivery

• Lead the day-to-day management of Ella’s safe houses, and outreach services

• Ensure all caseworkers provide high-quality, holistic support tailored to each woman’s needs

• Ensure casework systems are used consistently and effectively across the team

• Oversee accurate and timely completion of risk assessments, support plans, and case notes

• Provide emotional support and hands-on casework guidance where needed

The Oxfordshire Homelessness Alliance (the Alliance) is a group of organisations (Local government, A2 Dominion, Aspire, Connection Support, Elmore, Homeless Oxfordshire and St Mungo’s) that came together in 2022 to deliver single homelessness services across the county under one contract.

Services delivered by the Alliance include the city and county outreach services for people experiencing rough sleeping, supported accommodation such as the hostel O’Hanlon House, shared dispersed supported accommodation, and homelessness prevention services.

The Alliance is commissioned through a pooled annual budget of c£3.8m which all District Councils in Oxfordshire, the City Council, the County Council, and the Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire Integrated Care Services, contribute towards. Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City are the lead commissioners of the Alliance. 

As part of the initiative, the Alliance will deliver an ambitious housing led change programme which is seeing services remodelled to support and enable people to live in their own homes and fulfil their aspirations. 

This role is hosted by Connection Support which is part of the Oxfordshire Homelessness Alliance. The role will be guided by the work plan of both the alliance chair and the alliance commissioners.

The impact you will have

As the Oxfordshire Homelessness Alliance Programme Manager, you will play a pivotal role in making the alliance and the services it delivers a success. You will provide strategic and operational oversight and day to day leadership and management.

You will strive to improve the services that are delivered by working closely with the Alliance Leadership and Management Team, partners, commissioners, and organisations working to put an end to homelessness. Fostering and enabling a culture of continuous improvement will be at the heart of your work. 

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 30hrs to 37.5hrs per week

Salary: £42,322 - £47,949 per annum, dependent on experience. Please note that the salary displayed is the full time equivalent and will be prorated for less than 37.5 hours.

You have proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating change management programmes, ensuring delivery within agreed budgets and timeframes. You’re also confident in reporting on financial performance and using data to inform decision-making.

With excellent project management skills, you're passionate about working collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders. You bring solid knowledge of programme planning and monitoring frameworks such as MSP, APM, PRINCE2, or similar methodologies.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred; however, this is not essential as long as you are able to travel across Oxfordshire as required.

Volunteers are the backbone of our operation at FareShare South West (FSSW). We have over 350 volunteers from a myriad of backgrounds, who make up 90% of our team. The volunteers help with every aspect of the operation, from driving vans, picking orders, to administrative duties. FSSW has built a successful volunteer programme which supports a wide demographic of people and multiple motivations for volunteering. This role will take a lead on all aspects of recruitment, retention, and development of our volunteer programme during this exciting time in the charity as we expand. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Volunteer Recruitment  

• Work with the Communications and Volunteering teams to actively promote the volunteer programme across Bristol

• Work with the wider FSSW team to support and develop volunteering opportunities for corporate supporters and food partners; taking a lead in the delivery of corporate volunteering events 

• Use and improve on existing processes to manage recruitment from initial enquiry through to successful onboarding of prospective volunteers and partners  

• Develop outreach activities to increase diversity, social impact, and community engagement 

• Work with Head of Employability & Volunteering and the wider team to ensure sufficient dependable volunteers to meet the operational needs, working to KPIs 

• Work with the Volunteer Coordinators to identify fluctuations in the volunteer rota, and action accordingly

• Work with the Head of Employability & Volunteering and Volunteer Coordinators to identify tasks/roles/needs to inform a recruitment strategy for the future

Volunteer Retention: 

• Enhance the existing volunteer retention programme

• Work in collaboration with the Plymouth Volunteering Team to ensure alignment in the delivery of the organisational strategy 

• Work with the Head of Employability & Volunteering and Head of Operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality volunteer induction and training 

• Analyse and monitor volunteer retention, noting reasons for moving on and developing strategies to improve retention where required 

• Develop volunteer roles in conjunction with the Operations Teams

• Build upon and establish new referral partners and recruitment platforms/streams 

• Support the Head of Employability and Volunteering to ensure all Volunteer policies and processes are up to date, and training is given to staff to uphold them 

• Work with the Employability Team to create routeways into volunteering 

Administration, policies, procedures, and risk management 

• Support the Head of Employability & Volunteering to develop and maintain volunteer policies, procedures, and risk assessments 

• Ensure volunteers are adhering to FSSW's Code of Conduct, facilitating meetings with volunteers if necessary, conducting relevant risk assessments, and following safeguarding measures 

• Ensure the Volunteer Coordinators are sufficiently trained in the CRM system (Salesforce) to keep up to date in line with GDPR

• Work with the Volunteer Coordinator/s to ensure FSSW’s databases are up to date with volunteer information, including skills, availability, and contact details/preferences  

  

Person specification – knowledge, skills, experience, and values 

It is not expected that the successful candidate will have all of the following criteria. FSSW is committed to helping individuals develop professionally and personally. The following are desirable criteria: 

• Experience in data informed recruitment and retention of volunteers or employees

• Experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures, programmes and strategies 

• Experience of risk management and safeguarding vulnerable adults

• Experience in providing supportive, motivational, structured team leadership for people with a range of life experiences, including supervision, target setting and performance management 

• A working knowledge or direct experience of the voluntary sector

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to establish and develop positive relationships with volunteers, external partners and beneficiaries 

• Excellent organisational, IT and time management skills to prioritise work, handle conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

• Ability to produce high-quality data with evaluation and strategic actions

About the Role

This is a pivotal senior leadership role at the heart of NCTJ's growth strategy - and is not your typical charity role.
