Working closely with the Head of Partnerships, the Philanthropy Manager will build upon and drive forward our existing philanthropy programme and build a portfolio of Ultra-High Net Worth and High Net Worth supporters. The Philanthropy Manager will also work collaboratively with colleagues to support the redirection of philanthropic capital to support global care reform.
The Philanthropy Manager will work with the Head of Partnerships to maintain and strengthen existing relationships, but also cultivate new prospective major donors. The post holder will also need to engage relevant internal stakeholders to effectively support these donors, including senior managers, volunteers and Trustees and manage appropriate and bespoke supporter stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Partnerships, to develop and implement a targeted major giving strategy to develop and deliver against detailed plans and objectives to grow the number of high value donors
- Execute strategic, tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for every prospective and existing major donor that results in successful retention of current donors, and that maximises the giving potential of both prospects and current major donors
- Pro-actively research and cultivate relationships with prospective major donors with the potential to make five and six-figure gifts to Lumos
- Provide support to senior staff, internal stakeholders and volunteers to effectively manage Lumos’ high value donors
- Provide expert support on Philanthropic giving trends to support the organisational aim to redirect funding from institutional care to alternative models of care
- Develop high quality communications for a wide range of major donors, including proposals and stewardship pieces
- Work with the Partnerships Funding Manager and with Lumos’ internal processes to develop bespoke funding pitches, detailed financial information and reports
- Work with the Digital Fundraising Manger to develop effective cultivation through supporter journeys to identify a major giving pipeline and maximise the Lifetime Value of supporters.
- Maintain the operational systems required to manage high quality donor cultivation, stewardship and research to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
- Oversee and manage a range of major donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities including virtual and face-to-face events and engagement opportunities
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the delivery of other donor stewardship and cultivation events
- Deliver against ambitious financial targets. To manage, monitor and report on income within the area of responsibility, and ensure all legal and fundraising regulatory compliance through exceptional record keeping

You’ll help to develop effective engagement strategies for these key contacts, ensuring that they are appraised of our work and can see the difference their support makes. You’ll draw on a range of formal and informal channels to do this, from social media to face-to-face events.
It’s important that you have a good understanding of the dynamics of philanthropic engagement – what inspires generosity from people who have the means to make substantial contributions and how to ensure that they can see that their commitment is valued and used well. We expect that you will already have a successful track record in working with major donors, and you’ll be accustomed to working towards stretching targets. Essential:
- A proven track record of meeting or exceeding financial targets and soliciting five and six-figure gifts from major donors, including through making the ask in person and face-to-face pitches and negotiations
- Demonstrable experience of leading on successful prospect and relationship management, taking the initiative to identify and reach out to potential new major donors to secure new income
- Able to develop and lead positive and influential relationships with existing and potential donors
- Experience of managing proposal development and reporting for major donors
- Excellent understanding of complex relationship based fundraising approaches
- Ability to motivate and influence across a range of levels internally, including with programme staff, Trustees, and the Executive Leadership Team.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
This exciting role will support on the delivery of income from a range of donors, including high-value donors within our philanthropy and corporate income streams, for the Helen Bamber Foundation Group. This position is key for both Helen Bamber Foundation and Asylum Aid and the postholder will work closely with the teams’ senior leadership, enabling the Head of Fundraising and Communications and the Executive Director to build successful funding partnerships.
We are looking for a bright and ambitious fundraiser who is looking to develop their fundraising, communication and event-planning skills, and who is excited by the opportunity to work closely with a diverse range of funders. The Corporate and Philanthropy Executive will be results-focused, well-organised and an effective communicator. This role best suits someone who is eager to learn and work as part of a tight-knit and successful team, and who can respond creatively and proactively to our current and future donors’ requests.
The candidate will preferably have some experience working or volunteering in the charity sector, and we welcome applications from candidates with transferrable experience, such as working in an client-facing role, in a communications position, copywriting or in event-planning.
As Corporate and Philanthropy Executive, you will be reporting to the Head of Fundraising and Communications and will have an allocation of their time dedicated to directly supporting the Executive Director of Fundraising and Communications to achieve ambitious but realistic team income targets. mothers2mothers (m2m) is an Africa-based NGO that unlocks the potential of women to eliminate paediatric AIDS and create healthy families across ten sub-Saharan African countries. m2m trains, employs, and helps empower women living with HIV to work as community healthcare workers in understaffed health centres and underserved communities. Through a peer-to-peer approach, these ‘Mentor Mothers’ deliver a range of health services, advice, and support to women and their families. We are looking for a Philanthropy Officer to join our dynamic fundraising team and support our Head of Philanthropy in taking m2m’s major donors and regular giving programme to the next level. This is a permanent and full-time position.

The CBSO is widely regarded as one of the most influential orchestras in Europe. It performs for over 200,000 concertgoers each year as well as running a sector-leading outreach programme which enriches people's lives through music across the West Midlands.

The Fundraising Team
The DofE’s fundraising team raises £5m per year from Philanthropy and Major Gifts, Corporate Partnerships and Events. It is an ambitious team which creates long lasting relationships and delivers exceptional donor experiences. The team is a vital part of the charity and will be pivotal in providing funds to underpin its strategy. Over the next 5 years the team will deliver funds of at least £25m to ensure the charity continues to deliver on its purpose. A key focus will be the DofE’s 70th Anniversary in 2026.
Summary and main purpose
The Head of Philanthropy is responsible for leading the Philanthropy and Major Giving (PMG) team which is part of the Fundraising team. The team is responsible for an annual budget of at least £3m with an ambition to grow this annually to at least £5m by 2025. During 2021/22 the team doubled its target. The Philanthropy and Major Giving team looks after a variety of relationships with high-net-worth individuals, family trusts and foundations.
Alongside the charity strategy, the Fundraising team have launched its next 5-year strategy. This exciting work will be supported by the Philanthropy and Major Giving team who will raise funds for key areas through a targeted approach. The strategy includes an ambition to diversify our income, with Legacies and Endowment, offering a real step change for the charity raising at least a further £25 million in the next 5 years.

We are looking for candidates with In-depth knowledge and experience of best practice in Philanthropy and Major Gifts fundraising including Endowments and Legacies. Our ideal candidate will have a successful track record in a senior fundraising role working with high-net-worth individuals, family trusts and foundations.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity (RMCC) raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. Together with the hospital we ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and ground-breaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, RMCC funds the development of new ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Our recent emergency appeal raised over £2m to support hospital staff and patients through the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are halfway through an ambitious three-year strategy that will deliver £80m of funding to support a world-class programme of research, treatment and care. We are also in the final stages of a £70 million capital appeal to build the Oak Cancer Centre at The Royal Marsden in Sutton.
The Philanthropy & Partnerships directorate has led the majority of this fundraising, successfully securing a lead donation of £25 million and multiple 7 and 6 figure donations from trusts and foundations, major donors, corporate partners and special events/high value committee supporters. About the Role
As Head of Philanthropy Research & Operations, you will lead on the development and delivery of our prospect research and pipeline strategy, a vital part of the Philanthropy & Partnerships team’s ambition to raise significant funds from major donors, trusts, high value committees and corporate supporters.
As part of a wider operational remit, you will ensure our team has the right management information needed to make informed business decisions, including income reporting and pipeline management.
The successful candidate will also take a lead role in reviewing and promoting the Philanthropy & Partnerships team’s compliance with relevant legislation and act as an expert, when required, across the charity. This will include working closely with the Head of Data & Fundraising Operations, particularly in the context of data protection and supporter privacy.
