Job description

We are looking to recruit a new Senior Policy Advisor who shares our passion and commitment to getting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the support they need to succeed in school, work and life.

Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have been hit hard by the pandemic.  But even before the disruption to education and work of the past 18 months, they were already 40% less likely to achieve GCSEs (or equivalent) and were twice as likely as their better-off peers to not be in education, employment or training (NEET).

You will be joining a team well positioned in these debates. Our groundbreaking research on the Youth Jobs Gap investigated the link between education and employment outcomes and we were a founding co-chair of the Youth Employment Group, a coalition of over 200 organisations working tirelessly to support young people into work. Our reputation gives us access and opportunity to deliver change.

We’re looking for someone with a strong grasp of the policy context in skills and employment. You’ll bring new insight and good links with a range of contacts in Parliament, Government, employers and charities. You will be an excellent communicator, able to make a compelling case for change and write and speak persuasively with a wide range of external audiences, including using communications to shape the political agenda and the public debate.

We collaborate across the organisation, with our charity portfolio and our partners to deliver better outcomes. We’re proud of our commitment to rigour and creativity in designing solutions to complex policy problems and champion practical problem solving, youth voice and lived experience in our work.  If this sounds like a place you can thrive, we want to hear from you.

We are also keen to hear from candidates who think this is the right kind of role at the right kind of organisation – but not the right kind of level. We would be open to appointing a policy advisor/manager. If you’re reading this job description and thinking it sounds great, but slightly too senior, please consider applying, making it clear in your supporting statement that you are applying for a role at the advisor/manager level.
